Fox News’ The Five opened Wednesday afternoon with a full-on assault against Attorney General Eric Holder for his role in the Justice Department’s subpoenas of reporters. “What is so dangerous about the truth and what are they hiding?” Eric Bolling asked of Holder and the Obama administration, suggesting that we could get some answers this week after Holder meets with bureau chiefs from mainstream media outlets, including Fox News.
“The reason you call in the bureau chiefs,” Dana Perino explained, “is because you realize you have a fundamental credibility problem.” She said of Holder, “the question is will it be enough to save his job? Maybe, but what they are trying to do is also save his reputation.”
When Bolling asked Greg Gutfeld if he thinks President Obama will “demand a resignation” from Holder or say, “why don’t you resign and I will accept your resignation,” Gutfeld suggested that conservatives should reject either scenario. “Just because his left-wing credibility has been used up,” he said, “that makes him even better for the Republicans.”
Bob Beckel suspected that Holder is kicking himself for not leaving his job last year, when he had reportedly wanted to, before Valerie Jarrett convinced him to stay on. “I think that it’s reached a point now where he is besieged from so many different directions, for his sake–and I have known him for a long time–it probably makes sense for him to resign.”
With a possible perjury charge, which she admitted would be hard to prove, Kimberly Guilfoyle said Holder’s “reputation is permanently tarnished.” But she warned against letting him take the fall on his own, saying, “if you were to blame it all on him you are really missing the big picture here.”
While most of the hosts agreed that it was time for Holder to resign, Gutfeld maintained that he should stay because his departure would only be good news for the White House. “He’s just taking all the heat,” Gutfeld said, “and when he goes, they replace him with the same thing if not worse.”
