Is Abortion The Base Of Country's Problems

Limbaugh: Abortion at Root of Much of America's Ills

Monday, 17 Jun 2013 06:39 PM
By Greg Richter

Much of the cultural and economic decay facing America can be traced to the more than 50 million abortions performed since the 1972 Roe v. Wade decision, Rush Limbaugh says.

And the current push for legal status for illegal immigrants is a result of needing to replace the aborted, Limbaugh said.

"Fifty-two million taxpayers haven't been born, is the way Washington looks at it," Limbaugh said on his radio show on Friday. "They don't look at it morally. They don't look at it in any kind of cultural way or any kind of cultural impact. They just say … we have 52 million fewer people paying taxes. We gotta replace 'em. Hello, amnesty."

But beyond that, abortion has had a role in destroying society, Limbaugh said.

Most people see abortion simply as a woman's right to choose, he said, but the impact has been much wider. "It's had an impact on crime. It's had a profound impact on our politics. It is at the root of our cultural rot and decay."

Limbaugh said no one wants to accept responsibility for his or her actions anymore. "And I'm not talking about the women," he said. "I'm talking the overall effect of a society having literally no problem with eliminating 52 million of its citizens. That can't be good."

Limbaugh noted that Americans still feel guilt over slavery, yet aren't bothered by abortion.

"I think it is the cause of so much that seems to be inexplicable to people," he said. "Why are 10-year-olds shooting each other to death in Chicago? Why is our society so permissive, anything goes, the more ribald, the better? The more honorable, the more boring it is said to be."

Really? Take a look at who is having the abortions. Hint: It is not affluent, white, educated middle-class women. Generally, they control their own fertility with contraception. How many of these 52 million UNWANTED babies would have ended up, not as taxpayers, but as poor kids living on food stamps, in foster care, dropping out of school, and ending up in prison (if black male) or on welfare and getting abortions themselves (if female)?

  2. David, that is a sad way of looking at human nature and is exactly the way the Germans decided that mental defectives should be eliminated as they were a drain on society. Is that the way we want our society to go?

Does everything come down to dollars and not the immorality of killing babies?

  3. I was responding specifically to Limbaugh reference to 52 million taxpayers. He was making the economic argument. I am saying he is wrong. Some of the 52 million would become taxpayers, but many would not. That was my point.

The Nazi analogy is misplaced. This gets us back to what we were discussing last week about the rights of a pregnant teen to have an abortion. She is the one making the decision, not a Nazi government. That is her constitutional right under Roe v. Wade. Sorry.

Speaking of the Court, all of the big decisions will come next week. I guess they think they will get less bad publicity if they kill affirmative action and the Voting Rights Act on the same day. By the way, Obama directed the Solicitor General to not even try to defend DOMA. That is VERY unusual for a president to not defend federal laws challenged in the Supreme Court. One might even think that Obama has a real interest in the cases!

  4. David, saying that 52 million people, or 45 or 30 would be drains on society is such a racial statement, such a superior feeling that I do not know how to answer it. To say that all or most of the abortions would be bums is a sad statement and I believe very much out of touch with the issue.

The Nazi analogy is very correct. Once any government starts down the road minimizing the value of life, it will not be long before no ones life will be safe. We have done that with abortions and the Nazis did that with mental illness.

  5. In the first place, "drain on society" are your words, not mine. Limbaugh's claim is that if these 52 million abortions had not occurred, we would today have 52 million taxpayers. As far as race is concerned, the issue is more about poverty than race. It just so happens that nonwhites are disproportionately poor. They also account for a disproportionate percentage of abortions, children in foster care, adults in prison. That is not a racist statement. It is a statement of statistical facts. I would be happy to show you the data, if you doubt me. Racists and I just have different explanations for the data. Furthermore, leaving that aside, many abortions occur because it is known that the baby would have Down syndrome or other horrendous genetic defects. None of these severely disabled babies would ever be taxpayers.

The difference between the Nazis and our country is that in our country it is the pregnant woman who makes her own free decision whether or not to have the mentally defective baby (e.g., Sarah Palin's baby). We don't have a government that steps in and forces Ms. Palin to have an abortion against her will. Why can't you see the difference?

  7. I thought the ending comments are very revealing, especially the last line. I guess the pro-life laws are making a difference! Let's keep it up!!

    Here are the words:
Michael J. New, an assistant professor of political science at the University of Alabama who works with the Family Research Council, attributed the drop in teenage pregnancies to a combination of factors, including increased contraceptive use, more teenagers delaying sex and state laws requiring parental consent.

"The states with the most active pro-life laws have seen the biggest abortion declines," he said.

  8. There will be even more increased use of contraceptives under Obamacare. Free contraceptives will be provided to women on most policies.

  9. Wrong again! All people under Obamacrapcare will get free contraceptives, abortions, and pregnancy care. That includes males (some don't think they are people). Most stupid thing ever created by man!

  10. LOL. Men don't get pregnant or have abortions.

  11. Yes, but under Obama crap care, each man must pay for these as part of his premium and that is NO joke.

  12. By law, the insurance company must provide contraceptives to women without charge. I expect some insurance companies will try to hide these costs into other provisions, but I hope HHS is diligent in comparing policies across different companies to monitor their compliance with ACA.

  13. That is incorrect, all participants in Obamacrapcare must be able to have abortions, contraceptives etc etc regardless of sex. Yes, I know that seems insane, but that is the rule. It is all based on the idea that it is unfair for women to have to pay for that coverage, now everyone gets to!!

  14. Fact-checking…

Here is what ACA says: "All Food and Drug Administration approved contraceptive methods, sterilization procedures, and patient education and counseling for all women with reproductive capacity."
