Not content to sit on the retirement sidelines and appreciate that he is now widely regarded as the second-worst president in modern history, Jimmy Carter attempts to interject his latent anti-Semitism and Israel hatred into the current conflict between the Jewish state and Hamas.

Characterizing the cold, calculating murderers in Gaza as “a legitimate political actor,” Carter is doing his best to earn the tens of millions of dollars he has been gifted since leaving the presidency by Saudi Arabia, Oman and various other Muslim sheikhs, monarchs and princes.

There ought to be a law … but, sadly, Carter is just one of the four living ex-presidents who has been so rewarded for doing the bidding of such rogues during and after their terms in office.

Carter is surely the most vociferous, enthusiastic and dedicated of the anti-Israel ex-presidents in his lobbying for the Muslim Brotherhood cause.

Among Carter’s charges is that Israel is guilty of “war crimes” in its current campaign to destroy terrorist tunnels and thousands of missiles Hamas fired from Gaza.

“There is no humane or legal justification for the way the Israeli Defense Forces are conducting this war,” he wrote. “Israeli bombs, missiles, and artillery have pulverized large parts of Gaza, including thousands of homes, schools, and hospitals. More than 250,000 people have been displaced from their homes in Gaza. Hundreds of Palestinian noncombatants have been killed. Much of Gaza has lost access to water and electricity completely. This is a humanitarian catastrophe.”

Exactly how Carter would respond to the infiltration of Israel by terrorists through a labyrinthine tunnel network or an incessant barrage of rocket attacks was not specified. But he was never known as a mastermind of defense strategy as president either. In Israel, the prime minister doesn’t have a Rose Garden to hide in when the nation is under siege.

Carter shamefully and falsely accused Israel of “deliberate attacks on civilians in conflict,” though Israel has conspicuously and meticulously sought to minimize civilian carnage. He called for an international kangaroo court to investigate Israel.

“[T]he United States and EU should recognize that Hamas is not just a military but also a political force,” he writes. “Only by recognizing its legitimacy as a political actor – one that represents a substantial portion of the Palestinian people – can the West begin to provide the right incentives for Hamas to lay down its weapons. …”

The real tragedy of the conflict from Israel’s point of view is that Hamas does, indeed, represent a substantial portion of the Palestinian Arab population – just as Adolf Hitler represented a substantial portion of the German people during the Holocaust.

That doesn’t justify Hamas’ legitimacy any more than it legitimized Hitler and the Nazis.

Carter was a truly awful president. He’s even a worse ex-president.

I say that as someone who was hoodwinked into voting for him twice! But I do owe Carter a debt of gratitude, for it was his warped ideology and corrupt spirit that cured my own political myopia. No, I didn’t have the good sense to believe my own eyes after four years of his failed leadership. It took something more.

It took Ronald Reagan, whom I feared as a presidential candidate, but whom I embraced as a leader once in office.

They say a mind is a terrible thing to waste. In Jimmy Carter’s case, perhaps the saying should be revised to, “A mind is a terrible thing to lose.” But that, of course, would imply that he ever had a mind to lose. There was little evidence of that during his four years as president – and even less evidence since.

If Todd Akin got in trouble for being falsely accused of legitimizing rape, how is it that Carter gets away with legitimizing cold-blooded terrorist murderers?

Perhaps it’s because he’s not the only one on the take from the Muslim Brotherhood. Too many of the “watchdogs” in the media establishment are, too.
