A 16-year-old mentally ill girl – who is accused of killing her 43-year-old statutory rapist – now faces up to 25 years in prison for second-degree murder.
Jessica Burlew of Glendale, Az., reportedly suffers from schizophrenia and autism. She has been charged as an adult for the murder of Jason Ash, 43, a man described by almost every media outlet that has reported on the case as her “boyfriend,” even though the age of sexual consent in Arizona is 18.
Burlew, who is accused of strangling Ash with an electrical cord on Jan. 28, said the two had been engaged in a sexual game of autoerotic asphyxiation, a method of increasing sexual excitement by cutting off oxygen to the brain.

According to court documents, Burlew claimed Ash didn’t say the “safety word,” and she told police she began cutting him with razor blades in an attempt to wake him up since she believed he had passed out.
Once Burlew realized Ash wasn’t waking up, she said, she continued “cutting” him to “alleviate her stress from the situation.”
Burlew’s mother, Tracey Woodside – who left the apartment and claims to have gone to the store while her daughter and Ash were inside – said the teen has a history of cutting herself “as a release,” according to the court documents.
Woodside called 9-1-1 after she returned to her apartment and found Ash not breathing. She tried to revive Ash, but police say Burlew fled the scene.
“They were playing a sex game,” Woodside told the dispatcher. “She said they got in a fight and he was hitting her.”
Glendale police confirmed Burlew has a mental illness and a history of running away.
Just five days before his death, Ash posted the following lyrics on his Facebook page: “I like to dissect girls … did you know I’m utterly insane?”
The same day, he also wrote, “Your throat, I take grasp, can you feel the pain?”
Reacting to media claims that Burlew “consented” to sex with a man 27 years her senior, Ben Johnson of Life Site News, wrote:

“The sexual revolution has presented itself as the great emancipator of women, freeing them from the shackles of outdated misogynistic double-standards that prevented the fairer sex from engaging in as much unbridled, shameless promiscuity as men. But insisting that all women, and sometimes children, are equally capable of exercising their ‘sexual rights’ may get a young girl 25 years in prison. …
“Immediately [after the incident], salacious headlines proclaimed that the teenage girl ‘strangled her boyfriend during sex,’ often reporting Ash’s age as a minor detail in a kinky drama.”
Johnson blasted the “new world of the sexual liberation,” arguing, “Under the stuffy, Victorian morality of the 1980s, Ash would have been recognized as a sexual offender, case closed.”
In his Oct. 11, 2013, column, “Left’s new crusade: Adult-kid sex,” WND columnist Matt Barber wrote, “Tolerating ‘intergenerational romance’ for ‘minor-attracted’ adults is all the rage these days. … There is categorically a movement to normalize pedophilia. I’ve witnessed it firsthand and, despite ‘progressive’ protestations to the contrary, the ‘pedophile rights’ movement is inexorably linked to the so-called ‘gay rights’ movement.”
Barber added, “[D]uring Obama’s first term, the official website for the Department of Health and Human Services linked to ‘parenting tips’ that referenced children as ‘sexual beings’ and suggested that they should experiment with homosexuality and masturbation.”
As part of that “new world of sexual liberation” Johnson and Barber described, even the nation’s largest abortion provider has trained teens how to practice torture sex.
Life News reported in June that Planned Parenthood was caught “teaching teenagers about S&M-based sexual relationships and concepts such as gagging, whipping and asphyxiation.”
In videos released by Live Action, Planned Parenthood counselors can be seen reassuring undercover investigators posing as teenagers, “If it’s consensual, it’s OK. It’s totally OK.”
Live Action President Lila Rose said, “It’s not a matter of ‘don’t judge,’ but rather explicit endorsement of violent and harmful sexual practices to boys and girls as young as 15 years old.”
