Second Terror Victim of Jerusalem Attack Dies of Wounds

A second victim from Wednesday’s terror attack has succumbed to her wounds, bringing the death toll to two.
Identified as a Karen Yemima Mosquera, 22-year-old female from Ecuador, Mosquera died four days after being critically wounded when a Palestinian terrorist plowed his car into a group of people in Jerusalem.
The attack also claimed the life of three-month-old Chaya Zissel Braun and injured seven others.
Mosquera was a student who had been living in Israel for the last year. She was in the process of converting to Judaism after she discovered that she was descended from Conversos, Spanish Jews who were forced to convert to Catholicism during the Spanish Inquisition. Mosquera was on her way to a Torah lesson when a Palestinian terrorist plowed his car into a group of passengers near the Ammunition Hill Light Rail stop.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Mosquera “spent the last two months in a Midrasha, an institute of Jewish studies for women, with other women from South America.” Before moving to Israel, Mosquera studied Family Psychology at the Catholic University of Guayaquil and was planning to study archeology in Jerusalem.
Mosquera’s parents and sister were flown in from Ecuador at the expense of the State so that they could be by the side of their loved one. It is state policy that when a foreign citizen is injured in a terror attack, family is flown in.
The Foreign Ministry said that Mosquera suffered head wounds and was seriously injured in the attack. After undergoing emergency surgery on her skull, Mosquera was hospitalized in the intensive care unit of Hadassah Ein-Kerem Hospital.
Mosquera was laid to rest shortly after Midnight on Monday on the Mount of Olives. Hundreds attended her funeral, including Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat and the Ecuadorian ambassador to Israel.
The funeral was initially postponed so that it would not coincide with the funeral of the terrorist who carried out the attack, Abdelrahman al-Shaludi. Security officials expected rioting during and after the funeral. Police shot Shaludi as he attempted to flee the scene of the attack. He later died of his wounds and was buried Sunday night in the Muslim cemetery outside the Old City of Jerusalem.
Mosquera’s mother told reporters on Sunday that it was always her daughters dream to comet o Israel and build her life there.
Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat eulogized Mosquera, saying that she was “a delicate soul and guardian of peace who fought to be a Jew,” NRG quoted him as saying.
“Like many before her, she also fell in love with Jerusalem. Seven months ago she joined us and tonight, with unbelievable pain, she is parted from us,” Barkat said.
“As mayor of Jerusalem I say that the situation won’t continue . It’s unacceptable that those who live their whole lives for peace fall victim to those who glorify death,” he added. Barkat vowed to restore order once again to Jerusalem.
