Baltimore riots lead to 235 arrests, 20 injured officers

202 arrested, 144 vehicle fires, 15 building fires in Baltimore riots.
National Guard troops and the governor's office have descended upon Baltimore
following a night of riots, fires and destruction.
Baltimore Police said 235 arrests were made overnight -- 201 adults and
34 juveniles. Twenty officers were injured in Monday night's violence.
The mayor's office said the city's fire department dealt with fires in 144
vehicles and 15 buildings. Baltimore police said one person is in critical
condition after one of those fires.
Violence ruled Baltimore Monday
night, after the funeral of Freddie Gray,
with numerous fires breaking out around
the city, several shootings were reported,
and city schools and business closed.
Gov. Larry Hogan declared a state of
emergency, and will set up his department at an office in Baltimore.
National Guard troops began patrolling the city with some soldiers on foot
along Pratt Street at the Inner Harbor as sunlight began to illuminate
downtown Baltimore.
City schools are closed. The Empowerment Temple will open at 10 a.m. as
a place for students to safely gather.
Some residents started the cleanup at North and Pennsylvania avenues,
near a CVS store that was looted and burned Monday. Tow trucks removed
torched vehicles from the area.

downtown remained unscathed from

Firefighters responded to at least half a dozen fires throughout the city
including a three-alarm blaze at pawn shop in Southwest Baltimore.
Firefighters were called to a three-alarm fire at a community center
under construction at Gay and Federal streets.
The Baltimore rioting kicked off with rumors of "purge" a reference to a
movie in which crime is made legal. A group gathered at 3 p.m. at
Mondawmin Mall, where they fought with police, before crowds
headed to Pennsylvania Avenue.
The day of violence had begun with funeral for Gray. His family stood
with city leaders Monday night pleading for the violence to stop.
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake instituted a weeklong citywide
curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting Tuesday.
The Orioles are scheduled to play the White Sox Tuesday at Oriole

The Ravens have canceled a draft party slated for Thursday evening
at M&T Bank Stadium.
