BREAKING: Iran Gives Back Navy Ships, But Steals 1 Important Piece Of Equipment… This Is Bad News
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard seized two small U.S. Navy vessels and detained 10 U.S. sailors Tuesday after the boats, one of which suffered from mechanical issues, allegedly drifted into Iranian territorial waters in the Persian Gulf.
This provocative action occurred mere hours before President Barack Obama was to deliver his State of the Union address, and just days before more than $100 billion in frozen assets are to be released to Iran as part of Obama’s nuclear deal with the Islamic Republic.
Thankfully, the sailors were released Wednesday morning, though questions remained as to whether the boats will be returned to the U.S. and whether they will be whole if and when that happens.
According to a report in The New York Times, an Iranian news agency has claimed that Iran confiscated the GPS equipment from the boats, ostensibly to “prove that the American ships were ‘snooping’ around in Iranian waters.”
At the very least, it is a near certainty that Iran had scientists and military officials searching and documenting everything they could find on those boats to garner as much technical information, some of it possibly sensitive, as could be discovered.
This move by Iran could be classified as an act of war, but rather than respond to the belligerent move by the Iranians from a position of strength, the Obama administration has apologized for violating Iranian waters and thanked Iran for their treatment of our sailors while in their custody.
Unfortunately, this incident will be chalked up as a propaganda win for the Iranians, and is yet more egg on the face of Obama, exposing the utterly embarrassing failure that is his foreign policy.
