The Rise, Fall and Crushing Defeat of Stormy Daniels and Her Lawyer

Porn star Stormy Daniels and her lawyer Michael Avenatti dominated the gossip columns and fake news media with titillating headlines about an illicit affair with the president. But in the big scheme of things, their rise to prominence lasted about a minute. After being roundly defeated in court by President Donald Trump and his team of lawyers, the fall of Stormy and her recently arrested attorney plays like a Greek tragedy.

In a good Greek tragedy, people bring about their own demise by a particular character flaw. Even a casual observer could see that the B-list porn actress and her lawyer were motivated by greed.

According to reports, before taking on her stage name, Stephanie Gregory grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she worked answering phones at a stable before trying her skills as a 17-year-old stripper. Believe it or not, Gregory — who later took an ex-husband’s last name of Clifford — had aspirations of becoming a journalist after graduating from the Scotlandville Magnet High School in 1997. But the lure of easy money apparently drew her to the Gold Club, where she dropped her clothes and made contacts in the adult film industry. By 2002, Stormy was fully immersed in taking cash for sex in porn movies.

In 2006, Stormy had some contact with then-business mogul Donald Trump. The details may never be known due to a non-disclosure agreement she signed before the 2016 election. But what is well known is that Stormy had her hand out for a payoff as the election neared. Even with Trump trailing in the national polls, the president’s long-time fixer Michael Cohen doled out $130,000 in hush money.

The deal is widely viewed as a dirty payoff to a cheap harlot. But after Trump won the election, greed got the best of Stormy Daniels. She wanted more money and hired now disgraced attorney Avenatti.

When it was all said and done, the pair were crushed in court. The case was thrown out. Stormy was ordered to pay President Trump nearly $300,000 in legal fees, and she may have to pay Cohen back the original $130,000 as well.

“The court’s order, along with the court’s prior order dismissing Stormy Daniels’ defamation case against the president, together constitute a total victory for the president, and a total defeat for Stormy Daniels in this case,” President Trump’s attorney Charles Harder said.

Avenatti later dumped Stormy on Twitter. Ouch!

But that is only half the tragedy. Things have gone far worse for Avenatti since tweeting the President of the United States to “buckle up, buttercup” and being a star guest on CNN nearly 60 times in two months during the height of the scandal. In fact, Avenatti garnered such popularity among liberal outlets that he publicly announced he might run for the president.

But the biased media’s love affair with the porn lawyer who wanted to be president was nothing if not short-lived. A California judge slapped him with a fine of nearly $5 million, upwards of $10 million in money owed to a former associate and others who sued him for unpaid debts and “fraud.” Reports also indicate he may owe the IRS back taxes. And, right on the heels of those defeats, a property owner evicted Avenatti from his Orange County offices. These days, Avenatti may wish that’s all that went sideways.

The seemingly unscrupulous lawyer reared his ugly head during the Brett Kavanaugh U.S. Supreme Court hearings claiming to have damaging sexual misconduct allegations. Claiming to represent an alleged victim, Avenatti upped his media exposure. However, the so-called client — Julie Swetnick — denied the lawyer’s publicity stunt.

“She stated she was clear and consistent ‘from day one’ with Mr. Avenatti that those claims were not true. And she said Mr. Avenatti ‘twisted (her) words.’ When reporters pressed him on these discrepancies, Mr. Avenatti attempted to deceive them in an apparent effort to thwart the truth coming out,” Judiciary Committee Chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley reportedly stated. “The law prohibits such false statements to Congress and obstruction of congressional committee investigations.”

Rather than emerge as a leader of the resistance to bring down Pres. Trump’s SCOTUS nominee, Avenatti was referred to the Justice Department for criminal investigation. And the epic fall ends with justice.

Michael Avenatti was recently arrested and charged with trying to extort Nike to the tune of $20 million. He reportedly threatened the sportswear company over inappropriate interactions with high school athletes. Prosecutors from the Southern District of New York formerly charged the disgraced lawyer and another co-conspirator before releasing him on $300,000 bail bond.

“A suit and tie does not mask that fact that, at its core, this was an old-fashioned shakedown,” U.S. attorney Geoffrey Berman said.

Apparently, running for president is no longer on the table.
