Former President Barack Obama offered a rare endorsement today, this time for besieged Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau – urging Canadians to reelect him.
The Washington Examiner's Mike Brest has more:
Trudeau, 47, was elected to serve as the country's prime minister in 2015 and has been the leader of the Liberal Party since 2013. He and Obama worked together during the final years of Obama's time in office.
The election is scheduled to take place on Oct. 21.
Trudeau has faced a turbulent couple weeks after old photos emerged of him wearing blackface. The original picture that surfaced was taken during a gala in 2001 that had an Arabian Nights theme. He has since apologized.
Obama has not endorsed any 2020 presidential candidates, including his former vice president, Joe Biden.
