UPDATED:
WASHINGTON (WTHR) — Congressional leaders from both parties have returned to the White House for another round of negotiations with President Donald Trump on the ongoing partial government shutdown.
The two sides have made no apparent progress in the past week, with Trump sticking to his demand of $5.7 billion for a border barrier and Democrats insisting they won't give him the money.
Trump has been making a public case that there is a "crisis" at the southern border. And he's still threatening to declare a national emergency to circumvent Congress if he can't get the wall money from them.
He told reporters during a visit to the Capitol earlier Wednesday that he may turn to a declaration "at some point" if top Democrats Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi "don't agree" with his assessment about the problems at the border.
President Trump tweeted Wednesday afternoon the meeting with Chuck and Nancy was a total waste of time.

At This Point If Trump Gives In To Schumer, He Will Never Get Anything Else From The Democrats

Schumer tells Trump to 'abandon' border wall plan amid government shutdown

Dems want to use drones, other tech instead

Senate Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) ordered President Donald Trump to "abandon the wall" Saturday, saying the president does not have the Senate votes required to fund it. His comments came hours after a partial government shutdown over a funding impasse on Trump's 2016 campaign promise to build a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico.

Could it pass in the Senate?

"It will never pass the Senate, not today, not next week, not next year," Schumer said from the Senate floor. "So President Trump, if you want to open the government, you must abandon the wall, plain and simple."
A partial shutdown of the government began at midnight Saturday after the House and Senate adjourned without a funding agreement. The shutdown could last a few days, both sides of the issue told Fox News. The Senate adjourned Saturday and is scheduled to meet again on Thursday.
Trump wrote on Twitter on Saturday: "I won an election, said to be one of the greatest of all time, based on getting out of endless & costly foreign wars & also based on Strong Borders which will keep our Country safe. We fight for the borders of other countries, but we won't fight for the borders of our own!"
The president also wrote that the border crisis is real and will not end without a wall or "steel barrier."
Vice President Mike Pence and acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney met at the Capitol on Saturday with Schumer in hopes of continuing negotiations that would end the stalemate, according to the report.
Productive discussions are ongoing, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told the news outlet.
"When those negotiations produce a solution that is acceptable to all parties — which means 60 votes in the Senate, a majority in the House, and a presidential signature — at that point, we will take it up here on the Senate floor," he said.
A Schumer spokesman indicated that "the vice president came in for a discussion and made an offer. Unfortunately, we're still very far apart."
The stalemate centers on was funding for Trump's signature 2016 campaign promise for a border wall to curb illegal immigration. The president wants $5.7 billion for the project. A bill that would fund it passed the House on Friday. Sixty votes are required in the Senate, which means Democratic votes are needed in addition to support from the GOP.

What else is proposed?

Schumer called Trump's plan a "bone to the hard right." Democrats are instead proposing $1.3 billion for "border security."
"I've heard the president and his allies in the media say that Democrats don't support border security," he said. "Nothing could be further from the truth. Democrats have always been for smart and effective ways to secure our border. We are pushing for technology, like drones and sensors, and inspection equipment."

CNN: THIS Killed Mollie Tibbetts

A CNN commentator had a creative take on Mollie Tibbett's murder, telling
followers that the promising Iowa college student was a victim of "toxic
masculinity" – not border security. (Daily Wire)

Sure, sure.

Since the police haven't made the alleged killer's motive public, it's actually

difficult to know exactly why Tibbetts was killed. Earlier on in the investigation,

police suspected Mollie's killer was someone "familiar" with her who might have

become obsessed with Mollie after a chance encounter, but that was before

the alleged murderer reportedly led the FBI straight to Mollie's body, ending

a state-wide manhunt.

Certainly the alleged killer seems to be undocumented, but he was no more

motivated by his immigration status than he was by some deep-seeded desire

to murder women who turn him down rooted in the Y chromosome. There are

plenty of men who get turned down for dates and don't end up dumping the

bodies of the women who reject them at rural intersections.

That's a tough sell to Symone, though.

Symone predictably fails to offer any reasonable suggestions to reduce violent
 crime.

Border Security Is Getting Better Because Of Trump's Moves

How Trump Exceeded Predictions

 for Border Security

3 2 1  8
President Trump gave his weekly address Friday, and he talked about
how he exeeded "even the most bullish predictions" on border security progress.

Here's the video and the transcript:

Transcript:
My Fellow Americans,

We're only 11 weeks in, but already my administration has achieved historic

progress for the American people – in fact, 93% of our domestic

manufacturers have expressed optimism in the future, a record.

The confidence we are seeing in our Nation is about jobs and opportunity –

but it's also about safety and security.

Security begins at the border – as a candidate, I pledged to take swift and

decisive action to secure the border, and that is exactly what I have done.

We inherited a full-fledged border crisis – it was a disaster.  Yet, with quick

and bold steps, we have so far exceeded even the most bullish predictions

for the progress we could make in so short a period of time.  Last month, we

saw a 64% reduction in illegal immigration on our southern border.

At the same time, we are conducting enforcement actions across the country

to remove dangerous criminal aliens from our society – and they’ll be gone.

In just the last few days our Nation's ICE officers have arrested 153 criminal

aliens in south Texas, 84 criminal aliens in the Pacific Northwest, and 31

criminal aliens in Long Island, New York – these arrests include aliens

convicted of robbery, burglary, aggravated assault, sexual assault against a

child, smuggling, drug dealing, and many more.

Much work needs to be done to reverse decades of harm caused by open

border policies from Washington – but, with time, dedication, and effort, we

will get the job done, and save countless lives in the process.

Providing security for the American People also means restoring America's

standing in the world.

From the very start of my Presidency, I have worked to strengthen our alliances

and improve our relationships all around the globe.

This week, I was honored to welcome the President of Egypt and the King of

Jordan to the White House. Now, I am hosting a summit with President Xi of

China at the Southern White House to address the many critical issues affecting

our two peoples.

In our dealings with other nations, our conversations have been candid,

open, and grounded in mutual respect.

I have been clear about advocating for the national interests of the United

States, something so important to me, and so important to our people – one

of the reasons, certainly, that I got elected. And I want to ensure that the

decisions we make truly serve the safety and security of our citizens.

In matters both economic and military, we understand that a strong America

is in the best interests of the world – that is why it is so important that as we

strengthen international partnerships, we ensure these partnerships deliver

real results for Americans and the American people.

Our decisions will be guided by our values and our goals – and we will

reject the path of inflexible ideology that too often leads to unintended

consequences.

A future of peace, safety, and prosperity – that is our guiding light, and always

will be.

Together, we will bring about this future for the land we love, and for the

people who call it home.

We love our country, and we love the American people. Thank you.
