Was Money The Real Goal Of The Clock Maker?

Texas student arrested over clock seeks $15 million

By Lisa Maria Garza
DALLAS (Reuters) - The family of a Texas Muslim teenager arrested for bringing a homemade clock that was mistaken for a bomb to school demanded $15 million in damages and an apology from the city of Irving and its schools to avoid a lawsuit, lawyers said on Monday.
The lawyers represent the family of Ahmed Mohamed, 14, a student who dabbles in robotics and attended a Dallas-area high school. His arrest in September sparked controversy, with many saying he was taken into custody because of his religion.
In separate letters to the city of Irving, located west of Dallas, and the Irving Independent School District, lawyers said the ninth grader was wrongfully arrested, illegally detained and questioned without his parents.
The Mohamed family is asking for $10 million from the city and $5 million from the school district or they will file civil lawsuits within 60 days, the letter said.
"Understandably, Mr. Mohamed was furious at the treatment of his son – and at the rancid, openly discriminatory intent that motivated it," attorneys said in one of the letters.
The school district said in a statement its lawyers are reviewing the letter and will respond appropriately. City officials were not immediately available for comment.
The boy's family said in October that they would be moving to Qatar and he had accepted an offer from the Qatar Foundation to study at its Young Innovators Program. The announcement came a few hours after he was at the White House for an astronomy night hosted by President Barack Obama.
Ahmed won support from Obama and other major U.S. figures, including Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg, who said "having the skill and ambition to build something cool should lead to applause, not arrest."
The family, now living in Doha, has also traveled the globe to meet foreign dignitaries.
Sudanese state radio reported that his father took him to meet Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir. The Sudanese leader is accused by the International Criminal Court of masterminding genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes during Sudan's Darfur conflict.
Despite several television appearances and worldwide travel, the Mohamed family says the attention ruined their lives and eventually drove them out of the country, lawyers said.

‘We Took You by Surprise’: Islamic State Lists Exactly Which American and European Landmarks It Plans to Blow Up

An Islamic State group spokesman says the jihadist group aims to “blow up” the White House, Big Ben and the Eiffel Tower on its way to conquering Paris, Rome, Portugal and Spain.
The threat was delivered Thursday by spokesman Abu Muhammad al-Adnani in a nearly 30-minute audio message titled, “So They Kill And Are Killed.” The title refers to a verse in the Koran.
“We want, Allah willing, Paris before Rome and before Al-Andalus [Spain and Portugal], [and] after that we will blacken your life and blow up your White House, Big Ben, and the Eiffel Tower, Allah willing,” Adnani said.

He also offered a list of sites further east the group aims to conquer: “We want Kabul, Karachi, the Caucasus, Qom, Riyadh and Tehran. We want Baghdad, Damascus, Jerusalem, Cairo, Sanaa, Doha, Abu Dhabi and Amman. And Muslims shall return to ruling and leadership everywhere.”
The Middle East Media Research Institute, which translated the message, observed that the spokesman was trying to boost the morale of Islamic State fighters in light of recent attacks against them by U.S.-led coalition forces and local opponents.
The spokesman said that the extremist group would ultimately prevail despite recent losses it has sustained, emphasizing that its enemies had underestimated its strength, only to come to the realization when it was too late.
Adnani’s message officially welcomed Boko Haram’s pledge of allegiance to the Islamic State group and invited Muslims to join the jihad in western Africa.
Adnani devoted part of his message to Christians and Jews, telling them they have two options to be accepted under Islamic caliphate rule, which he asserted would one day spread to Saudi Arabia and Jerusalem: convert to Islam or pay the jizya poll tax.
“We took you by surprise,” the spokesman said, addressing Jews and “crusaders,” referring to Christians.
MEMRI noted that the title of the audio message, “So They Kill And Are Killed,” refers to verse 9:111 in the Koran, which reads:
Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties [in exchange] for that they will have Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah, so they kill and are killed. [It is] a true promise [binding] upon Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur’an. And who is truer to his covenant than Allah? So rejoice in your transaction which you have contracted. And it is that which is the great attainment.
The Long War Journal, which tracks Islamist movements, reported that Adnani tried to paint a rosy picture of life under the Islamic State.
There “is no polytheism or paganism or nationalism or patriotism or polytheist democracy or disbelieving secularism” in the caliphate, he said according to a translation by the SITE Intelligence Group.
That idyllic vision emphasized racial equality.
“There is no difference between an Arab and a non-Arab, nor between black and white,” the spokesman said. “Here, the American fraternizes with the Arab, and the African with the European, and the Eastern with the Western.”

Egyptian Liberal News Makes Disturbing Allegation About Obama

Tweets from the Director of Research at the Brookings Center in Doha, Qatar revealed disturbing accusations regarding the Obama family and the president’s life in Indonesia.
Newspaper also claims that son of MB leader threatened Obama w- release of ‘papers’ revealing his MB membership,” Shadi Hamid writes, via Al Jazeera.

The newspaper not only accuses Obama of being a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, but it also claims that the president’s half-brother Malik is an al-Qaeda activist.
Jonathan Spyer, senior researcher at the Global Research in International Affairs Center, toldTheBlaze that the Egyptian newspaper Al-Wafd alleges that Barack Obama originally embraced the Muslim Brotherhood while living in Indonesia.
Even more condemning is the paper’s claim that Muslim Brother leader Khairat al-Shater has threatened to release a document proving this claim.
However, Spyer believes that the allegations are simply the ravings of angry citizens, steeped in the Egyptian view that Obama’s policies are pro-Brotherhood.
These are not the first times such allegations have been made. During protests calling for former President Mohammaed Morsi’s resign, demonstrators waved signs criticizing Obama for his involvement.
Eric Trager, Egypt scholar at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, told TheBlaze that this type of reporting is consistent with Egyptian tabloid media.
“Many Egyptians blame the United States for allegedly supporting the Brotherhood, when in fact we simply worked with the government that they elected, and some in the Egyptian media have repeated ugly conspiracy theories about President Obama to depict American policy as subversive,” Trager claims.
However, Shadi Hamid of Brookings reiterates that “the sheer unbridled creativity of Egyptian media knows no bounds. This sort of outside-the-box thinking bodes well for #Egypt’s transition.”
The accusation is telling of the Obama administration’s refusal to recognize the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization, although the Egyptian government has already declared it as such.
Are the newspaper’s accusations an angry jab at failed foreign policy, or are they founded in some sort of truth? Let us know your opinion in the comments.
