Jury System Is Bedrock Of Justice System. Now It Is Being Corrupted By "Feelings"

Victim Sickened as Jury Helps out Thieving Illegal

Victim Sickened as Jury Helps Illegal Alien Thief

After what could conceivably be the most naive jury in American history reluctantly convicted an illegal immigrant of theft earlier this month, its members reportedly teamed up to pay off the criminal alien’s fine.
“The general sentiment was, she was a victim, too,” the jury foreman, Jeffery Memmott, remarked afterward to The Washington Post. “Two of the women (jurors) were crying because of how bad they felt. One lady pulled out a $20 bill, and just about everybody chipped in.”
The jury wound up giving convicted thief Sandra Mendez Ortega the money she needed to pay off her $60 fine because they “felt bad for the young woman, pregnant with her second child, and agreed that she had made a dumb, youthful mistake.”
That “youthful mistake” entailed Ortega, 19, swiping at least $5,000 worth of jewelry from her employer, Lisa Copeland, a Virginia woman who had hired Ortega as a maid.
According to the Post, the two-day trial took place in July, but the verdict became official at a sentencing hearing Friday when a judge announced the conviction and imposed the recommended fine.

Copeland was rightly livid.
“I just pray that they’re never in my shoes,” she told the Post. “If she had accepted accountability, I would be OK with all of this. The fact that she won’t accept accountability makes it wrong.”
But instead Ortega lied from the beginning until the end, apparently portraying herself as a victimized single mother and bamboozling the jury into reluctantly convicting her and then hitting her with a pitiful sentence far short of the 20 years in prison and fines of up to $2,500 she had originally faced.
The actual crime reportedly occurred in September of 2016, when Copeland discovered that her engagement and wedding rings were missing. The rings were worth at least $5,000, according to the Post, but given their heirloom and family history, were probably priceless to their owner.
Following a brief investigation by the Fairfax City police, Ortega fessed up and subsequently spent eight days in jail before being released on a $1,000 bond.
According to the Post, Ortega apologized for the theft in writing, in Spanish, but Copeland never got the letter, and said she still never got an apology in person.
“Never saw it,” Copeland said. “Never heard about it until the trial, during sentencing.”
During the trial, the jury was not informed of either Ortega’s time in jail or the fact she was an illegal immigrant.

Copeland said the jury should have heard that: “I think it’s relevant to the case,” she said.
Her husband, Jeff, was far more blunt.
“It really irritates me that she came here and committed a felony,” he told the Post. “People are coming here because there is opportunity here. But when they come here and commit crimes, that’s where you’ve got to draw the line.”
Exactly. Of course, the jury continues to view the situation differently.
“We didn’t feel she should have been tried and convicted,” said Memmott, the foreman. “We tried every way we could to find some way of not convicting her. But the legal standard was very clear.”
Regardless of whether he’s still unaware of Ortega’s status as an illegal remains unclear, the stupidity of that statement is obvious.
“The fact that she confessed and they didn’t want to convict her … I don’t get this,” said Copeland. “That’s basically saying it’s OK to steal.”
Exactly. It makes zero sense to rational adults, but for a state whose citizens continue to vote against their interests by electing moronic Democrats into office, perhaps it does.

If You Live In Fairfax, VA, Your Superbowl Party Will Be Limited To 49 People! This And Other Violations Of The Fourth Amendment Are Coming To A Place Near You!

The  elected class of Virginia’s most populous county is considering banning frequent and large gatherings at neighborhood homes by establishing zoning ordinances that place limits on “group assemblies.”
The ordinance, which is being discussed today in Fairfax, Va., would limit gatherings at residences to 49 people a day and allow no more than three such gatherings within any 40-day period. County Supervisor Pat Herrity says the ordinance is a lawsuit waiting to happen.
According to county “officials,” numerous complaints are lodged about group meetings in homes. Herrity says that by “numerous,” those “officials” mean six in the past year.
The ban would affect church groups, scouting organizations, family birthday parties and reunions, and even sports fans gathering to watch the next “big game.” Realtors fear it will also result in fines for them for holding open houses.
This is an egregious assault on property rights and the right to assembly. It is also another example of the tyranny of the minority.
Governments are instituted to protect private property and individual rights, as James Madison pointed out in his “Essay on Property.” He wrote: “Government is instituted to protect property of every sort; as well that which lies in the various rights of individuals, as that which the term particularly expresses. This being the end of government, that alone is a just government which impartially secures to every man whatever is his own.”
Arthur Lee of Virginia wrote in 1775 that right of property is essential to liberty. “The right of property is the guardian of every other right, and to deprive the people of this, is in fact to deprive them of their liberty.”
Unfortunately, courts are run by government employees who routinely rule in favor of government over the individual, as Michael Salman (and many others) have learned over the years. Salman, a Phoenix pastor, served 60 days in jail for holding Bible studies at his home that were deemed by the city a violation of various codes and zoning regulations.
Of course, property rights are virtually nonexistent anymore. No one owns property free and clear because an annual ransom (property taxes) must be paid to the king or the king will snatch said property and deed it to his friends. This has given rise to the belief by the king that he owns and, therefore, controls what you can and can’t do on your property. And when the king assumes such power, he believes he is then empowered to deprive you of your liberty in every way he desires.

Convict Cop Who Tipped Off Terror Suspect Now An IRS Employee

A dirty Fairfax County, Va. cop who pleaded guilty in Federal court for tipping off a terrorism suspect and compromising an ongoing FBI investigation is now a financial analyst for the IRS, according to a report that emerged last week.
According to PJ Media, former police officer Weiss Rasool, who has since changed his last name to Russell, pleaded guilty in 2008 to a misdemeanor count of illegally accessing a government computer by letting himself into the FBI’s National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database and letting an al-Qaida-linked associate know the Feds were watching him.
Rasool entered the U.S. from Saudi Arabia in 1983, and became a naturalized citizen in 1996.
From the report:
In 2008, Russell/Rasool was prosecuted for his role in tipping off Abdullah Alnoshan, a close associate of al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki and a friend of Russell’s from their mosque. According to the Justice Department’s Statement of Facts filed at the time of Russell’s indictment, Alnoshan provided license plate numbers to Russell for cars he believed were conducting surveillance on him. Russell then checked those plate numbers in the FBI’s NCIC database, which came back to a leasing company which federal prosecutors claimed would have tipped off Russell to the bureau’s surveillance.
He left a phone message for Alnoshan that the FBI intercepted.
Prosecutors also claimed that on more than a dozen instances, Russell checked his name, the names of relatives, and other friends to see if they were listed on the Violent Crime and Terrorist Offender File on NCIC without an authorized reason for doing so.
Rasool remained on the Fairfax County police force while serving out part of a two-year probation, before being forced to resign after an internal affairs investigation concluded.
Then he ended up at the IRS – even though Federal employment screening procedures and background checks are supposed to root out candidates whose histories suggest a direct conflict of interest over matters of National Security.
