Trump Again Denies Any Involvement in Enquirer Story

 Donald Trump says he “had nothing to do with” a story published in the National Enquirer alleging Texas Senator Ted Cruz, his rival to be the Republican party’s 2016 presidential nominee, has had extramarital affairs.

But he did accuse Cruz of maligning his wife, Melania Trump.

Trump slammed rival Cruz for the recent ad produced by an anti-Trump super-PAC featuring a photo of Trump's wife posing nude.

  "From what I hear, he and his campaign went out and bought the cover shoot.  Melania did a cover story for 'GQ,' a very strong modeling picture.  No big deal," Trump said on ABC's "This Week."

"But it was a cover story for 'GQ,' a big magazine.  And it was, you know, fine.  And from what I hear, somebody bought the rights to it and he was the one or his campaign bought the rights and they gave it to the super PAC."

Trump issued his own denial of his campaign’s involvement in the telephone interview on ABC.

“The campaign had absolutely nothing to do with it,” Trump said on the show. He stopped short of condemning the story. “I have no idea whether it was right or not. They actually have a very good record of being right, but I have absolutely no idea.”

The story quotes an anonymous source alleging that private detectives are looking into at least five affairs Cruz supposedly had. In an interview on Fox News Sunday, Cruz called the piece “tabloid smear” that “came from Donald Trump and his henchmen.”

“These are complete made-up lies,” Cruz said. “They’re garbage, but it’s indicative of just how low Donald Trump will go.”

The battle between the GOP hopefuls has grown increasingly personal of late. After an ad from an anti-Trump group called “Make America Awesome” featured suggestive pictures of his wife Melania, the Republican frontrunner fired back in a tweet.

“Lyin’ Ted Cruz just used a picture of Melania from a G.Q. shoot in his ad,” Trump tweeted on March 22. “Be careful, Lyin’ Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!”

The group the ad came from isn’t part of Cruz’s campaign, and the senator has denied involvement.

A&E Television Networks LLC lifted the suspension of “Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson and said it will resume production of the popular cable television series.A&E, which suspended Robertson earlier this month for his remarks about homosexuality in GQ magazine, will air a national public-service campaign promoting “unity, tolerance and acceptance among all people,” according to an e-mailed statement from the New York-based network.

“He and his family have publicly stated they regret the ‘coarse language’ he used and the misinterpretation of his core beliefs based only on the article,” A&E said. “He also made it clear he would ‘never incite or encourage hate.’”
The decision allows A&E and the Robertson family to move ahead with one of cable television’s most-watched shows, a program seen by an average of 14.6 million people an episode, according to Nielsen data. The series produced almost $80 million of ad revenue for A&E this year, according to Kantar Media, and about $400 million in merchandise sales, Forbes said.
“By defining the ‘undefined suspension,’ A&E has created a win-win solution to a potentially fatal decision which could have meant the end of ‘Duck Dynasty’ and would have been a lose- lose proposition for all involved,” Porter Bibb, a managing partner at Mediatech Capital Partners, a New York-based merchant bank, said in an e-mail.

Robertson, the 67-year-old head of a Louisiana family that makes duck-hunting gear, was suspended indefinitely by A&E on Dec. 18 after telling GQ magazine that homosexuals were akin to adulterers, the greedy, drunkards and swindlers and would not “inherit the kingdom of God.” A&E is co-owned by Walt Disney Co. and closely held Hearst Corp.
The network again disavowed Robertson’s comments, saying its values are “centered around creativity, inclusion and mutual respect.” A&E, in announcing its decision to stay with the show, also said many episodes of the program “reflect and pray for unity, tolerance and forgiveness.”
Michael Feeney, an A&E spokesman, declined to comment beyond the statement. The Robertson family didn’t respond to a request for comment left with the office of Willie Robertson, a cast member and chief executive officer of the Duck Commander business.
“It’s been a win-win for everyone but those who care about minority rights, and I don’t mean just gay rights,” said David Craig, a professor at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism in Los Angeles and a former A&E executive.
Media Activist
Craig, also a media activist focused on gay rights, cited remarks about pre-civil rights era blacks that Robertson made in GQ. He described the Robertsons’ subsequent statements as “a regret in terms of language, not a regret in terms of meaning.”
The Robertson family started their TV career producing hunting videos and appeared on The Outdoor Channel in 2009 in a show called “Benelli Presents Duck Commander,” according to IMDB.com. The family sent a highlight reel around to TV networks that drew A&E’s interest.
The family, including the co-stars, said Dec. 19 on their website duckcommander.com that they couldn’t imagine “Duck Dynasty” going forward without their patriarch and that they were in talks with A&E about the show’s future.

Count on Camille Paglia to turn her progressive, myopic, ivory-tower echo-chamber colleagues red with indignant rage anytime she opens her mouth to speak the simple truth.

Paglia weighed in on the sanctimony-fueled uproar that “Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson’s “suspension” from the massively popular A&E show generated Thursday, as the openly gay professor, intellectual and pop culture critic tore into the pervasiveness of politically correct timidity throughout American culture on an appearance on the Laura Ingraham radio show.

Paglia, author of the 1991 landmark Sexual Personae (the book that made Andrew Breitbart realize what a waste his Tulane education had been), hewed to the same fierce defense of free speech that has kept progressive critics – nearly all of whom lack the academic chops to assail her thinking on the merits – throwing off-the-mark ad hominem spears at her for two decades.

“I speak with authority here, because I was openly gay before the ‘Stonewall Rebellion,’ when it cost you something to be so,” said Paglia. “And I personally feel as a libertarian that people have the right to free thought and free speech.”

It’s unlikely that you need any background, but Phil Robertson became the target of GLAADand other one-track advocates for gay rights after his remarks in a GQ article reflecting personal views on the depravity of homosexuality and other Biblical sins went viral. A&E responded to GLAAD pressure by indefinitely banning him from appearing in future episodes of “Duck Dynasty.”

That, according to Paglia, was a “fascist,” freedom-squelching move.

In a democratic country, people have the right to be homophobic as they have the right to support homosexuality – as I 100 percent do. If people are basing their views against gays on the Bible, again they have a right to religious freedom there … to express yourself in a magazine in an interview. This is the level of punitive PC, utterly fascist, utterly Stalinist, okay? – that my liberal colleagues in the Democratic party and on college campuses have supported and promoted over the last several decades. It’s the whole legacy of the free-speech 1960s that have been lost by my own party.”

Don’t look under any rocks for more ideological liberals to join Paglia in the Robertsons’ defense. Then again – the Duck Commander clan likely doesn’t need it. A Facebook pageprotesting A&E’s decision to yank Phil had received 800,000 “likes” by late Thursday – only a few hours after it first went online.
