Media Blame Malia Obama Story on Conservatives. They’re Wrong

Stalking or attacking the children of politicians isn’t about being right or left – it’s about right and wrong. That’s why, when the Daily Mail published an “exposé” of sorts on Malia Obama, conservatives were some of the first to come to her defense, from Ben Shapiro to Matt Walsh.

On February 18, the Daily Mail zeroed in on the oldest daughter of former President Barack Obama. For its latest story, reporter Jennifer Smith focused on a secret Facebook account appearing to belong to Malia during high school and her gap year that contained photos of Post-it notes with handwritten anti-Trump messages. 

The story came a day after the same outlet published yet another piece about Malia, accusing the 20-year-old Harvard student of sipping rosé with friends in Miami.

Whether it’s Barron Trump or Malia Obama, children of the presidents should be off limits as they grow up and enter into adulthood. It’s not a political rule; It’s human decency. And so, liberal media figures and commentators rushed to condemn who they saw as the culprit: conservatives.

“Conservatives are frothing at the mouth over Malia Obama drinking rosé at a party just shy of her 21st birthday,” Imani Gandy, the senior legal analyst for Rewire.News, tweeted on Feb. 18. “These are the same people who had no problem giving Justice Brett Kegstand a lifetime appointment to SCOTUS.”

That same day, a comedian and writer employed by entertainment like Saturday Night Live and Netflix, Zack Bornstein, argued similarly. “The same people mad at Malia Obama for drinking wine and wearing a bathing suit at age 20 are the same people who excuse Brett Kavanaugh for drinking beer and assaulting a woman at age 17,” he said.

Writer and comedian Sarah Cooper typed on Feb. 18 that “Rightwingers are obsessed with Malia Obama today” and concluded “It's almost as if they wish Barack Obama was still president as much as I do.”

Adam Best, a filmmaker and co-founder of “The Left” podcast, addedFeb. 18 that, “Trolling Malia Obama for having fun with her friends and sipping some rosé is even dumber than arugula-gate. Conservatives never get sick of embarrassing themselves trying to smear this family.”

None of them cited any conservatives as evidence. That might be because, in reality, conservatives were some of the first to race to Malia Obama’s defense on Monday. 

“OMG Malia Obama is a human with political opinions and also enjoys wine,” conservative commentator Ben Shapiro responded.

Daily Wire writer Matt Walsh tweeted, “Everyone on my Twitter feed seems to agree that this Malia Obama thing is not news and doesn't matter and we should just leave her alone. Seems like this another fake ‘conservatives are outraged about a dumb thing’ story that the media has cooked up.”

Conservative comedian Tim Young chimed in, “Malia Obama isn't responsible for her father's policies... and she definitely wasn't elected to the White House...  Sorry, not giving that article the clicks and you shouldn't either.  All first kids (who aren't members of white house staff) should be off limits.”

Robby Starbuck, a producer and director, wrote he wouldn’t “spread the garbage being run” about Malia. “She is a 20 year old young adult who’s figuring out who she is, making 20 year old mistakes. We all did at her age. I think it’s dumb to criticize kids of politicians who obviously support their parents. This is not news,” he said.

He ended with a message about the “leftists blaming the Malia Obama trend on Conservatives”:  “You’re hard pressed to find one who cares but you’ll find a ton defending her right to be a young adult, living a young adult life.”

Christian conservative writer Carmine Sabia continued, “Attacking Malia Obama for drinking at 20 and for having a Facebook page where she does not like the man who took over for her dad and is undoing everything he did is not journalism. It is stalking and shameful. As a conservative and President Donald Trump supporter I disapprove.”

Writer and digital media manager for the R Street Institute, Shoshana Weissmann, also chimed in. “Imagine being the douche who leaks Malia's info to reporters to feel powerful. That person's definitely on the path to having a fulfilling life,” she wrote with irony. “There's def a type in politics who likes to feel like they are insider-y and will do stuff like this to boost their sense of importance when really nobody cares.”

In other words, conservatives didn’t care about what Malia did – but they did care about how the Daily Mail treated her. And so, instead of placing blame where it doesn’t belong, liberals should join conservative voices in support of journalistic ethics.

Another View Of Obama Daughter In Mexico

We posted our opinion of the wonderful trip that the Dictator's Daughter Malia is taking to Mexico and so when we read the following posting, we agreed with it also.  What a wasted opportunity to do something exemplary, instead it is wasted on a trip to a dangerous foreign country.  If this is an example of the Obama parenting skills, we can expect all sorts of wonderful news items in the future as the girls show the world how American Teenagers can behave!  It will not be pretty, that is if we ever read it in the papers.

I had several people admonish me to go easy on the Obama daughter spending our money in Mexico. They say I’m being unfair and that the children are off limits. Well poop-poopy-du to them. I know most of them mean well, but that said, they are blind to the nature of battle we wage. I’m not here to be nice, I’m here to be truthful, and to share the truth with you as accurately and as forthrightly as I can.



People have no idea what it is like for those of us who dare stand up. We do it because it must be done, and to encourage you to be as willing as we are to speak the truth. Trying to be nice and reasonable as some call for it, is fool’s work. Let me repeat once again: I am on record calling for hands off the Bush twins and calling for hands off Chelsea CLinton – I even called for hands off the Carter brat – the difference is that those parents didn’t use their children as shields to hide behind and effect policy through.



Obama talks about his daughters as if he expects them to be as immoral as Whoopi Goldberg, who is only to happy to tell people the number of abortions she has had. He tells people on the stump that he wants abortion there for his daughters. He speaks of wanting them to have options if they get in trouble, i.e., he wants abortion in event they get pregnant. What father, forget the assignation “decent parent,” speaks publicly of their children in such a way, not to mention speaks about their little girls that way? I would never dream of using my child as a shield for my aberrant policies.



Yes, I am unapologetically critical of the little diva’s trip to Mexico, with an armada of secret service, and 12 of her best friends, at a time that the children of many working families cannot afford to go to a ball game or an all day amusement park. This is as arrogant as his wife spending $50,000 in one trip at an erotic underwear boutique, and her $15,000 per day makeup person.



He and his wife behave like his and her royalness. He tells us what we should do with our money, what we should drive and what temperature we cannot keep our thermostats at, and she tells us what we should eat. All the while they live life large, with private costume parties, attended by Hollywood’s biggest actors and actresses. They have elaborate parties attended by the biggest names in hip-hop and rap music. C. Delores Tucker was a black Democrat, and she opposed such filth until the day she passed away.



Obama is quick to misquote scripture, telling us what we should do for the least of these blah-blah-blah. Why didn’t he send his little diva along with her friends into the ghetto or to under performing schools to work with children? Why didn’t she spend her break working on the environment, since he’s so concerned about it? Christian children and Mormon children spend the breaks serving as missionaries in third world countries – raising the money for the trips themselves. His divas got first hand tutelage from their mother on how to lie, cheat, and steal from the taxpayers, when they were listed as senior advisors on their $10 million African vacation. Nothing like teaching your children how to be liars and arrogant entitlement mongers early.



No, I’m not being nice – but I am being truthful. Niceness had many white people vote for him based on guilt, and now that they are seeing the error of their way, they are called racists. I’m more than willing to show his divas the same respect I showed the children of Carter, Clinton, and Bush, as long as it is called for. But these racialists are showing off and acting uppity in ways no other president would dare.



Are they incapable of understanding just how hard it is for many families? His administration is running commercials that advertise the benefit of food stamps as making you healthy enough to play with your children in a park. That the commercial didn’t advertise the benefits of food stamps as making you healthy enough to get a job, is telling. Oh, that’s right, he’s presided over a climate that has been hostile to job creation.



Millions of people are unemployed with no hope of finding work as summer approaches. Have his royalness and queenie given any thought to what responsible parents are feeling, realizing they won’t be able to take their family on vacation? Or is that they don’t give a damn?



I’ve made no pretense of holding them in the lowest of esteem, and this latest act of shameless entitlement and privilege, sending their diva to Mexico, simply underscores my point. Those in the media and the party apparatchiks may see nothing wrong with her trip, but they do not live in the world of reality that 80 percent of America lives in.



If you want political correctness and phony platitudes, you will have to go to another blog, because you won’t get it here. Unlike congress and politicians, I do speak to ordinary people. I spend time talking with them at the grocery stores and mini-mart gas stations. I become familiar with them and their concerns, and in almost all instances, without them having a clue who I am, or what exactly it is I do for a living. I can tell you, the majority of those people are as upset as I am, and those that aren’t are forced to stop, think, and reconsider, when I explain things in language they understand, pursuant to what it costs them to live.



Instead of making a diva out of his child and talking about her being able to have abortions, he should being teaching her the value of service.

Obamas Should Be Charged With Child Endangerment

The Obama Family Should have charges brought against them for parental misconduct and endangering their child!  How can any family allow their  13 year old child to go away for Spring Break, no less to go to a dangerous foreign country!

We don't care what party a family is from, whether they are rich or poor, connected or disconnected, or smart or dumb, it is ridiculous for a minor child, no less a 13 year old to go on spring break. Compounding the error in judgment is sending a child to a third world, dangerous country that is on the US State Department do not travel list.  It would not matter to us if they sent a US Army division to protect her, it is irresponsible! A teenager should vacation with his or her parents, not the FBI and other youngsters. 

Even if the President made the parental mistake of allowing  his daughter to go away, what about Virginia Beach or somewhere on the Gulf of Mexico like Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas or Louisiana? It would be considerably safer than Mexico!

Sending a 13 year old to Mexico, regardless of the security provisions, is child endangerment and should subject the Obamas (and the other parents who sent their children) to civil and potentially criminal charges. We would hope there are others of similar opinion in the child protective division of the Washington D.C. government.

P.S.  On top of the massive error in judgement, the White House has the gall to call all media outlets and demand the story be pulled. The rationale was that it was about the daughter of the President and should not be news.  We disagree, it was about parental lack of judgment and endangering their child. This is abuse of power by the White House.

WHITE HOUSE ADMITS TO ASKING NEWS AGENCIES TO PULL MALIA OBAMA VACATION STORY

The White House has admitted to telling news agencies to pull stories on Malia Obama visiting Mexico for spring break, Politico reports.

Kristina Schake, Communications Director to the First Lady, emailed Dylan Byers:

From the beginning of the administration, the White House has asked news outlets not to report on or photograph the Obama children when they are not with their parents and there is no vital news interest. We have reminded outlets of this request in order to protect the privacy and security of these girls.

The Blaze first noticed the disappearing stories Monday afternoon, when accounts of Malia and 12 friends visiting Oaxaca with 25 Secret Service agents mysteriously began turning into broken links.

However, in admitting to “reminding outlets” about not reporting on the Obama children when there is “no vital news interest,” the White House has also tacitly admitted that Malia is (or now maybe was) in Mexico for spring break. Additional evidence has surfaced confirming that. One site has published a photo of the Obamas going to church on Sunday. It notes that Malia is absent, and says that’s due to the Mexico trip:

That site has also posted alleged photos of the vacation, but we have decided not to repost those.

As The Blaze noted on Monday, a vacation for Malia in Mexico raises a slew of questions considering the State Department has warned American citizens against travel there.

In fact, the language contained in the State Department’s travel warning is quite ominous.

“[C]rime and violence are serious problems throughout the country and can occur anywhere,” thewarning reads. “U.S. citizens have fallen victim to TCO activity, including homicide, gun battles, kidnapping, carjacking and highway robbery.” [Emphasis added] It continues later:

The rising number of kidnappings and disappearances throughout Mexico is of particular concern. Both local and expatriate communities have been victimized.  In addition, local police have been implicated in some of these incidents.  We strongly advise you to lower your profile and avoid displaying any evidence of wealth that might draw attention.

Additionally, the warning (dated February 8) notes that “U.S. government personnel and their families are prohibited from personal travel to all areas described as ‘defer non-essential travel’ and when travel for official purposes is essential it is conducted with extensive security precautions.” However, it adds that “USG personnel and their families are allowed to travel for personal reasons to the areas where no advisory is in effect or where the advisory is to exercise caution.”

According to the release, no specific warning has been issued for Oaxaca, where Malia is said to be. However, there have been concerns about that area in the past.
