NFL Should Forget Being Politically Correct And Worry About The State Of The Game

NFL threatens Texas, and Governor Abbott responds like a Texan

NFL threatens Texas, and Governor Abbott responds like a Texan
AUSTIN, TX - FEBRUARY 18: Texas Governor Greg Abbott speaks at a joint press conference February 18, 2015 in Austin, Texas. The press conference addressed the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas' decision on the lawsuit filed by a Texas-led coalition of 26 states challenging President Obama's executive action on immigration. The NFL is threatening to punish the state of Texas unless they follow the far more liberal standards the league has on transgender rights, and Governor Abbott is responding much like most people would expect a Texan to.
He laid out his response to the NFL in a tweet Saturday.

Abbot seems to compare the plight of Texas to that of Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady, whom the league punished by banning for four games of the season. The team won the Superbowl despite the setback, and Abbott clearly means to challenge the punishment of the league on Texas and win anyway, just like Brady.
League spokesman Brian McCarthy made a statement issuing the threat to Texas in response to an email. “If a proposal that is discriminatory or inconsistent with our values were to become law there,” he wrote, “that would certainly be a factor considered when thinking about awarding future events.”
He was referring to a bill filed last month in Texas that would set guidelines for who can use what gender-designated bathroom.
Under the Texas bill, people would be required to use bathrooms that correspond to the sex on their birth certificate. It’s similar to a North Carolina law that prompted the NCAA to pull seven championship events from that state last year and is backed by Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, a powerful figure in the state who had cited the Houston Super Bowl as proof that big events will stick around.
This isn’t the first time the NFL has used its clout to push pro-transgender policies. In 2015, the league implied that a similar bill in Georgia might cause them to skip over Atlanta for hosting Superbowls. Their Republican Governor later vetoed the bill.
Abbot appeared to throw down the gauntlet to the NFL in the tweet which defied the characterization of his position in the CBS article he posted.
Republican Gov. Greg Abbott has been quieter on the proposal and, noticeably, never mentioned bathrooms while laying out his legislative agenda last month.
Governor Abbott has been embroiled in another controversy since coming out against “sanctuary city” policies that harbor illegal aliens by not responding to federal requests to aid in detaining them. Officials of some Texas cities, including Sheriff Sally Hernandez of Travis County, have tried to fight back, precipitating a Texas bill to ban those policies in Texas cities that persist in abetting illegal immigration.
The Houston Texans made it to the second round of the playoffs and lost 16 to 34 to the Patriots and their quarterback, Tom Brady.

San Francisco Is Compliant In The Death Of Kate Steinle By Ignoring US Law And By Suppporting Sanctuary City Status.

After admitting to shooting and killing 32-year-old Kate Steinle, Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, an illegal alien, was asked why he had come to San Francisco.
He responded that “he knew San Francisco was a sanctuary city where he would not be pursued by immigration officials.”
“Sanctuary cities” are cities within the United States that refuse to comply with federal immigration laws and authorities—similar to the defiance of Southern states to federal law during the civil rights era.
By some estimates, there are more than 150 U.S. cities that are endangering the safety of their citizens by refusing to turn over dangerous, criminal aliens to the Department of Homeland Security or inquiring about the immigration status of suspects when they are arrested.
So when Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, seven-time convicted felon and five-time deportee, arrived in San Francisco, authorities were none too concerned with complying with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Although ICE had Lopez-Sanchez in custody in March 2015, the agency transferred him to local authorities in San Francisco to be prosecuted on a drug-related charge.
ICE filed an “immigration detainer,” and requested that the San Francisco authorities notify them before releasing Lopez-Sanchez after his prosecution.
For reasons unknown, San Francisco authorities decided not to prosecute Lopez-Sanchez on the drug charge and then blatantly ignored the detainer and the prior request by ICE to return Lopez-Sanchez to its custody.
Instead, they let this killer walk free. Now, Kate Steinle is dead, and her family is left to grieve.
While it was Lopez-Sanchez who pulled the trigger, it was the city council of San Francisco and its mayor who aided and abetted her murder through their defiant, reckless, and dangerous sanctuary policy.
There is no question that this tragedy could have been avoided if not for the San Francisco policy, particularly given that even ICE characterized Lopez-Sanchez as an “enforcement priority,” according to a spokeswoman for the agency.
But San Francisco’s policy is to refuse to “honor U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainers unless they are supported by a judicial determination of probable cause or with a warrant of arrest.”
What should really infuriate the family of Kate Steinle is that this horrible, tragedy could have been prevented.
Not the First Time
It is not the first time convicted felons have been shielded from deportation by sanctuary cities, only to commit violent crimes following their release from prison. It is not even the first time it has happened in San Francisco.
In 2008, the Bologna family suffered the same tragedy. Edwin Ramos, a member of the notorious MS-13 gang, cold-bloodedly murdered three innocent residents, Tony Bologna and his two teenage sons, Michael and Matthew Bologna, on the streets of San Francisco as they came home from a family barbecue.
Like Lopez-Sanchez, Ramos was an illegal alien who took full advantage of San Francisco’s sanctuary policy.
Prior to committing the triple murder, Ramos had been convicted of two violent felonies as a juvenile: a gang-related assault and the attempted robbery of a pregnant woman.
But because the city’s policy is to ignore immigration status, federal immigration authorities were never informed that two-time felon Ramos was in the country illegally.
If San Francisco had informed federal authorities of Ramos’ presence and if ICE had picked him up, the murders of three innocent people could have been avoided, just as the murder of Kate Steinle could have been avoided.
Instead, San Francisco along with other cities have created sanctuaries for criminal conduct by aliens, shielding them from the federal government, and enabling them to continue to victimize innocent Americans.
San Francisco and Other Sanctuary Cities Are Breaking the Law
San Francisco is directly violating federal law, as are all of the other sanctuary cities. Under Section 642 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (8 U.S.C. §1373), it is a violation of federal law for any state or local government to “prohibit, or in any way restrict” law enforcement or other government officials from sending or receiving information from the federal government on the “citizenship or immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual.”
Instead of comforting the bereaved Steinle family in the wake of this terrible tragedy, President Obama has sought to shift the blame for this incident.
In a statement, White House press secretary Josh Earnest blamed Republican lawmakers for Kate Steinle’s death. “It’s because of the political efforts of Republicans that we have not been able to make the kind of investment that we would like to make in securing our border and keeping our communities safe,” he said.
However, it is the Obama administration that announced in 2010 that it would not sue sanctuary cities that refuse to cooperate with the federal government on immigration enforcement.
It was the Obama administration that axed a program that made it easier for immigration authorities to find and deport illegal immigrants who had committed local crimes.
Under the Secure Communities program, local jurisdictions had the ability to check whether individuals they arrested were illegally in the U.S. or were “otherwise removable due to a criminal conviction.” If an individual was found to be illegally present, “ICE [would take] enforcement action—prioritizing the removal of individuals who present the most significant threats to public safety.”
But in 2014, the Obama administration got rid of the Secure Communities program, making the bizarre claim that the program’s “very name ha[d] become a symbol for general hostility toward the enforcement of [the nation’s] immigration laws.”
It put in a new, much more limited program, the Priority Enforcement Program (PEP), which only allows ICE to ask local jurisdictions for “voluntary” notification or detainment.
Under the Priority Enforcement Program, ICE has much narrower enforcement priorities and reasons for removing an illegal alien.
In fact, ICE’s enforcement priorities are so narrow today that it has releasedtens of thousands of dangerous, violent, criminal aliens, from murderers and drug dealers, to kidnappers and robbers, onto the streets—almost 70,000 in just the past two years.
Yet, even with this weakened standard, ICE still issued a detainer for Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, recognizing that he posed a threat to public safety if he remained in the United States.
San Francisco disregarded that detainer, washing its hands of a seven-time felon, and releasing him into an unsuspecting populace.
It seems San Francisco and other sanctuary cities are more concerned with protecting illegal aliens, even those with criminal records, than with protecting innocent citizens like Kate Steinle or Tony, Michael, and Matthew Bologna.

Obama Wants To Guarantee Democratic Rule Forever Regardless Of The Damage Done To The Country

A conservative congressman says the murder of a San Francisco woman by an illegal immigrant deported five times is a microcosm of the border security dereliction of the Obama administration and liberal city leaders choosing to reward criminal behavior.
Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, also addressed the fierce debate within the Republican presidential field, taking care to avoid characterizing any candidate but leaving no doubt what he thinks the GOP’s policy position ought to be.
The immigration debate took on a more personal dimension over Independence Day weekend, as 32-year-old Kate Steinle was randomly murdered by 45-year-old Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez. The killer, who has since confessed, has been convicted of seven felonies and deported five separate times.
Gohmert said similar stories have played out far too often as the Obama administration effectively waves illegals across the border.
“It’s very easy to explain when you have a president who does not believe in the rule of law, who has pandered to people who are illegally in the country,” Gohmert said in an interview with WND and Radio America. “All we can figure is, he thinks that if they can just get people who are illegally the right to vote before they understand the responsibilities of trying to keep a democratic republic, then it will give the Democrats all power for all time.”
According to Gohmert, the Steinle murder is hardly an isolated incident. He said the House Judiciary Committee, of which he is a member, received very disturbing numbers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement on the extent of violent crimes committed by illegal immigrants in Fiscal Year 2014 alone.
“These individuals have been convicted of 79,059 crimes, including 175 homicides, 373 sexual assaults, 186 kidnappings (and) 14,014 impaired driving offenses. It just goes on and on. This is making America less safe,” he said, noting both the federal government and city governments must stop rewarding criminals.
Listen to the WND/Radio America interview with Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas:
“If the president’s going to protect America, if our city leaders are going to protect America, the cities can’t be this haven for people who broke the law and would kill a beautiful young lady like we had in San Francisco,” Gohmert said. “And the federal government has got to stop encouraging illegal immigration.”
The congressman said the Steinle murder struck close to home for him, and he said the policy of San Francisco and other “sanctuary cities” needs to be revisited right away.
“Having three daughters, I’m particularly sensitive to these things. But to have her shot so senselessly, randomly, right there in front of her parents, would never have happened if San Francisco were not a city that just welcomed people who violated our immigration laws. It is a sanctuary city,” said Gohmert, meaning San Francisco and other cities have laws refusing to hold people whose only known offense is coming to the U.S. illegally.
Lopez-Sanchez has seven felonies on his record. San Francisco and the federal government are now engaged in a blame game over which is responsible for the killer being loose in the first place. The federal government asserts Lopez-Sanchez was in custody and about to be deported for a sixth time when he was handed over to the city to face a drug charge and should never have been released when those charges were dropped. San Francisco officials say it was the federal government’s job to have a warrant ready to go when the drug case concluded.

WB-How-Left_Plans-To-WinGohmert said illegal aliens create trouble for law-abiding citizens, even when there is no violent crime involved. He contends a recent account from a teenage constituent is a perfect example.
“She and her single mom were trying to make ends meet. An illegal alien hit her car,” he said. “He had no driver’s license, no insurance. He was allowed to drive off in his car. Hers was totaled. It just made things crazy for these poor girls. It’s just outrageous that this president would not be more sympathetic to the plight of Americans dealing with crime in America.”
Just as maddening to Gohmert as what he sees as the Obama administration refusing to enforce immigration law is the president’s insistence that border security is operating at record efficiency.
“It may just be because our president doesn’t know enough about our history,” he said. “I’m sure they didn’t teach it in Indonesia, but the fact is, when he says nobody has done more to secure the border than I have, or words to that effect, it’s simply not true.”
The congressman said the border was far more secure after President Woodrow Wilson (not a favorite of Gohmert’s) effectively sealed the border after Mexican revolutionary Pancho Villa conducted numerous murderous raids into the United States. On Wilson’s orders, thousands of forces clamped down on the southern border.
“The border was secure,” Gohmert said. “Nobody came in unless we wanted them to.
“This president could do more. Of course, you remember (former Homeland Security Secretary) Janet Napolitano just announced one day, ‘Hey, the four billion dollars or so that was appropriated by Congress for virtual fence? I’m not going to do that. I’m going to spend the money elsewhere.’ This administration not only encourages people to violate our immigration law but it violates the laws regularly themselves.”
The killing of Kate Steinle poured rhetorical gasoline onto an already combustible debate within the 2016 Republican presidential field over the issue of illegal immigration.
Billionaire real-estate developer Donald Trump immediate stirred the pot in announcing his White House bid.
“[Mexico is] sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists, and some I assume are good people,” said Trump on June 16.
Several other GOP hopefuls have denounced Trump both for his language and for his alleged inaccuracy.
“He’s doing this to inflame and to incite and to draw attention, which seems to be his organizing principle of his campaign,” said former Gov. Jeb Bush, R-Fla. “He doesn’t represent the Republican Party or its values.”
Gohmert is not wading into the back-and-forth between candidates, but he said he trusts the assessment of the U.S. Border Patrol, and its assessment is sobering.
“Many of them have told me there is not a single mile of the U.S.-Mexico border that is not under the auspices of some drug lord. And you don’t cross that border into the United States without permission from that drug lord. If you do, they’ll find you in the United States and kill you,” said Gohmert, who added that many illegals come across and claim they are refugees from deadly gang violence in their home countries.
After a brief interrogation, it is usually discovered that gangs are not the reason for their illegal migration but the means for shuttling them across the border.
The congressman said the proper approach for Republicans should be obvious. First, he said there should be nothing but admiration for Hispanic families who come here legally, since they value the intact family as high as this country did in the past.
“It’s a generalization, but it’s a pretty good generalization that Hispanics love God, are devoted to God, love family, are devoted to family and they have a hard work ethic,” Gohmert said. “Those are the kind of things that made America great. We need more of that. We need more of what the Hispanic can bring before we co-opt it and teach them other ways.”
However, he said, that admiration has to be tempered by a strict adherence to the law.
“They have to come in legally,” he said. “To just disregard the rule of the law makes us like the countries in central America or Mexico that they’re fleeing.”
Opposition to legal status or even a pathway to citizenship for those illegally in the U.S. has long been described as unrealistic, and now Republicans and Democrats accuse people who hold that position of being hateful or even racist. Gohmert flatly rejects the label.
“It’s ridiculous to say it’s racist if you want people who commit crimes to be punished for those crimes,” he said. “Having been a former felony judge, many times people accused me of being mean, but I followed the law. I was fair across the board, and that’s what we have to do. It’s part of the price of maintaining this democratic republic, as (Benjamin) Franklin said, if we want to keep it.”
