The End of Western Democracy?

Today in his posting, Pat Buchanan, makes a very salient point about the debt the United States and other western countries have accumulated through the social programs that have come to the norm. Will this debt crisis cause the end of Western Democracy as we have known it for the past sixty years? I believe so.
America, Greece, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Portugal, Great Britain are all deeply in debt mostly from the social programs that CANNOT be reduced for fear of civil disobedience (also known as riots) and political reality. Who would vote for a person or party who reduced your social security, medicare, medicaid, or welfare by 50%? No one.
Once these egregious programs get started, they assume a life of their own and no reasonable person can control them. The only way is for society as a whole to disintegrate into chaos. That my friends is where we are heading.

The End of La Dolce Vita

Are Europe and America headed to where Athens is today?

To answer the question, consider what brought Greece to
where she is -- running a deficit of 14 percent of gross
domestic product with a debt approaching 100 percent, with
Portugal, Spain, Ireland and Great Britain not that far
behind.

How did this happen?

Protected by the United States through a half-century of
Cold War, Europe cut back on defense and ratcheted up
spending for La Dolce Vita.

All of Europe adopted universal health care. All voted in
a shorter workweek, a higher minimum wage, greater job
security, earlier retirements and munificent pensions.

As the cradle-to-grave welfare states rose, an ever-
increasing share of the labor force left the private
sector for the security of the public sector.

Tax-consumers, the beneficiaries of the welfare states and
the bureaucrats that ran them, grew in number, as taxpayers
declined as a share of the labor force. Though Greece was
far from the most productive nation in Europe, Athens led
the parade.

After the baby boom ended, the pill arrival in the 1960s.
Then came abortion on demand in the 1970s.

The fertility rate of Greece and every European nation
fell below the 2.1 births per woman needed to replace an
existing population. Greece's birth rate has been below
zero population growth for three decades.


Result: In Year 2000, Greece had just under 11 million
people and a median age of 38. In 2050, Greece is project-
ed to have just under 11 million people, but the median
age will be 50.

Were Greece a company, the solution would be bankruptcy.

But Greece is a country. And a bailout of $141 billion is
being put together by the European Union and International
Monetary Fund.

Why? Because, should Greece decide not to take a chain saw
to her welfare state, but walk away from her debts and
default, she would blow a hole in the balance sheets of
the biggest banks in Europe.

Then the banks would have to be bailed out.

Seeing Greece's bondholders being burned, terrified holders
of Portuguese and Spanish debt would start dumping their
bonds, forcing Madrid and Lisbon to pay a higher interest
rate both to sell new bonds and roll over the old ones
coming due. Rather than savage their welfare state
programs, and risk riots in the streets and a massacre at
the polls, Madrid and Lisbon, too, might look agreeably at
default.

Chancellor Angela Merkel, though exasperated with the
Greeks, is urging Germans to back the $141 billion
bailout: "Nothing less than the future of Europe... is
at stake."

Merkel believes there is no alternative. But there is an
alternative -- a restructuring of Greece's debt or a
default where the holders of Greek bonds suffer the fate
of the holders of bonds from Lehman Brothers and General
Motors.

Inevitably, this is what is going to happen.

For how long will Greeks work longer, retire later and
live on smaller pensions, so holders of Greek bonds can
get their interest payments right on time?


The EU and IMF may, with the bailout of Greece, kick this
can up the road. But the crisis will return. For the
nations of Europe have made commitments beyond their
capacity to keep, given their growing debts and aging
populations.

And America is not all that far behind.

While the federal deficit is not 14 percent of GDP, it
was 10 percent in 2009 and may reach 11 percent in 2010.
Trillion-dollar deficits are projected through the
decade, bringing the public debt -- held by citizens,
companies, foreign governments and sovereign wealth
funds -- close to 100 percent of GDP.

And the unfunded liabilities of Social Security, Medicare
and federal pensions rival those of Western Europe.

States like California and New York, larger than Greece,
look a lot like Greece. Were it not for the scores of
billions dished out to them by Obama's stimulus, some of
these states would have come close to the brink New York
City went over in 1975.

Many of these states are today laying off teachers, letting
felons out of prison, and looking hard at the salaries and
pensions of civil servants. While the temptation is great
for Washington to bail them out again, the United States
government itself has now begun to attract the concerned
notice of holders of U.S. debt.

That we are witnessing Oswald Spengler's "Decline of the
West" seems undeniable.

La Dolce Vita is coming to an end. The ever-expanding
European and American welfare states of the 20th century
will contract in the 21st. Some have already begun to
shrink. A time of austerity is at hand.

Indeed, what is about to be tested is democracy itself.

Can democracies that attracted universal applause in the
golden years of rising expectations impose upon their
citizens the enduring and painful sacrifices necessary in
a time of retrenchment?

We are about to find out.

Obama Wrong Again on Arizona

In today's Conservative Review, Pat Buchanan, hits a home run when he discusses the Arizona Immigration Law. We need to support Arizona on this issue. Until the national government decides it must ENFORCE the laws of this country, things will only disintegrate. Do we really want Mexican drug cartels having free access to the United States to spread their poison? Do we want unrestricted access by any foreign national to the country? Why is it that we can know where every cow in this country was born, raised, sold and butchered but we cannot control our borders?

For those of you who believe this asking someone to see their drivers license is just like Nazi Germany, I suggest you refuse to present that document when you are trying to make a withdrawal at the bank, purchase medicene at the pharmacy or when you get stopped by a police officer. We present our documents every day.

Additionally, try to go to Mexico without documents. You cannot. A foreigner must have a passport and if they are staying more than 30 day must have a visa. A vacationer can stay in the border area for three days on his/her passport. If they are there on business there are forms that one must fill out regarding their visit. If you don't believe this, go to the Mexican government site-- www.mexonline.com/mexcustoms.htm.
Our priorities are way out of whack and it is time that someone has done something about it. Congratulations Arizona, I commend you.

Whose Country Is This?

With the support of 70 percent of its citizens, Arizona has
ordered sheriffs and police to secure the border and remove
illegal aliens, half a million of whom now reside there.

Arizona acted because the U.S. government has abdicated its
constitutional duty to protect the states from invasion and
refuses to enforce America's immigration laws.

"We in Arizona have been more than patient waiting for
Washington to act," said Gov. Jan Brewer. "But decades of
inaction and misguided policy have created an unacceptable
situation."

We have a crisis in Arizona because we have a failed state
in Washington.

What is the response of Barack Obama, who took an oath to
see to it that federal laws are faithfully executed?

He is siding with the law-breakers. He is pandering to the
ethnic lobbies. He is not berating a Mexican regime that
aids and abets this invasion of the country of which he is
commander in chief. Instead, he attacks the government of
Arizona for trying to fill a gaping hole in law enforcement
left by his own dereliction of duty.

He has denounced Arizona as "misguided." He has called on
the Justice Department to ensure that Arizona's sheriffs
and police do not violate anyone's civil rights. But he
has said nothing about the rights of the people of Arizona
who must deal with the costs of having hundreds of
thousands of lawbreakers in their midst.

How's that for Andrew Jackson-style leadership?

Obama has done everything but his duty to enforce the law.


Undeniably, making it a state as well as a federal crime
to be in this country illegally, and requiring police to
check the immigration status of anyone they have a "reason-
able suspicion" is here illegally, is tough and burdensome.
But what choice did Arizona have?

The state has a fiscal crisis caused in part by the burden
of providing schooling and social welfare for illegals and
their families, who consume far more in services than they
pay in taxes and who continue to pour in. Even John McCain
is now calling for 3,000 troops on the border.

Police officers and a prominent rancher have been murdered.
There have been kidnappings believed to be tied to the
Mexican drug cartels. There are nightly high-speed chases
through the barrios where innocent people are constantly
at risk.

If Arizona does not get control of the border and stop
the invasion, U.S. citizens will stop coming to Arizona
and will begin to depart, as they are already fleeing
California.

What we are talking about here is the Balkanization and
breakup of a nation into ethnic enclaves. A country that
cannot control its borders isn't really a country anymore,
Ronald Reagan reminded us.

The tasks that Arizonans are themselves undertaking are
ones that belong by right, the Constitution and federal
law to the Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforce-
ment, and Homeland Security.

Arizona has been compelled to assume the feds' role because
the feds won't do their job. And for that dereliction of
duty the buck stops on the desk of the president of the
United States.

Why is Obama paralyzed? Why does he not enforce the law,
even if he dislikes it, by punishing the businessmen who
hire illegals and by sending the 12 million to 20 million
illegals back home? President Eisenhower did it. Why won't
he?


Because he is politically correct. Because he owes a big
debt to the Hispanic lobby that helped deliver two-thirds
of that vote in 2008. Though most citizens of Hispanic
descent in Arizona want the border protected and the laws
enforced, the Hispanic lobby demands that the law be
changed.

Fair enough. But the nation rose up as one to reject the
"path-to-citizenship" -- i.e., amnesty -- that the 2007
plan of George W. Bush, McCain, Hillary Clinton and Barack
Obama envisioned.

Al Sharpton threatens to go to Phoenix and march in the
streets against the new Arizona law. Let him go.

Let us see how many African-Americans, who are today frozen
out of the 8 million jobs held by illegal aliens that might
otherwise go to them or their children, will march to
defend an invasion for which they are themselves paying
the heaviest price.

Last year, while Americans were losing a net of 5 million
jobs, the U.S. government -- Bush and Obama both -- issued
1,131,000 green cards to legal immigrants to come and take
the jobs that did open up, a flood of immigrants equaled
in only four other years in our history.

What are we doing to our own people?

Whose country is this, anyway?

America today has an establishment that, because it does
not like the immigration laws, countenances and condones
wholesale violation of those laws.

Nevertheless, under those laws, the U.S. government is
obligated to deport illegal aliens and punish businesses
that knowingly hire them.

This is not an option. It is an obligation.

Can anyone say Barack Obama is meeting that obligation?

Letter To Representative Peters

I wrote the following letter to my Representative today.

Representative Peters,

I doubt that you will respond to my message as it poses a common sense solution which seems missing in Washington. Before you can "fix" the problem, you must get to the root cause. The root cause is the Community Reinvestment Act. This act forced the banks to provide loans to those people who could not afford them. Several administrations then forced the regulators to "grade" the banks on how well they were meeting the requirements of this bill. If they did not provide enough loans, they were downgraded. So the banks found themselves with billions of dollars of loans they knew were going to fail. Creativity then created the "alt a" and sub prime loans packages that were sold all over the world. (By the way, the FHA still sells the same type of loan.) That Dear Representative is the cause.

As I see it there are several culprits to this problem. They are:

1. Congress who passed the law

2. The Administrations who demanded the law be followed

3. Fannie and Freddie who bought the loans (and were praised on doing such a good job)

4 The Regulators who did not point out the problem

5. The Rating agencies who went along with the fraud

6. And the banks who recklessly sold garbage.

There is plenty of blame to go around but as I see it, your heralded "reform" bill only addresses the last one.

As long as this bill is still on the books and any reform will be meaningless without its removal. So, lets get off our political posturing stand and work to invalidate this law and then we can all work to see how reform can try to prevent it.

China Now Like US in 1800s

Pat Buchanan today in his article compares the United States of the 1800s and China today. The comparison is very clear and it points out that the best days of the United States are behind us. We are so bogged down by bureauacy that we cannot do what we did in the past (interstate highway system, refineries, nuclear plants). Our budget is out of control. We have no intention of cutting any program.
My fear that there is a day when the time will come that we will need (demanded by those who own our debt?) to make changes to programs and those who then become "disinfranchised" will riot in the streets demanding their benefits be re-instituted. It will become group against group and those with the most ammunition will win! Unfortunately we are closer to this time than most will acknowledge.

19th Century Americans

"Thank you, Hu Jintao, and thank you, China," said Hugo
Chavez, as he announced a $20 billion loan from Beijing,
to be repaid in Venezuelan oil.

The Chinese just threw Chavez a life-preserver. For
Venezuela is reeling from 25 percent inflation, government-
induced blackouts to cope with energy shortages and an
economy that shrank by 3.3 percent in 2009.

Where did China get that $20 billion? From us. From
consumers at Wal-Mart. That $20 billion is 1 percent of
the $2 trillion in trade surpluses Beijing has run up with
the United States over two decades. Beijing is using its
trillions of dollars in reserves, piled up from exports to
America, to cut deals to lock up strategic resources for
the coming struggle with the United States for hegemony in
Asia and the world.

She has struck multibillion-dollar deals with Sudan,
Brazil, Kazakhstan, Russia, Iran and Australia to secure
a steady supply of oil, gas and vital minerals to maintain
the 10-12 percent annual growth China has been racking up
since Deng Xiaoping dispensed with Maoism and set his
nation out on the capitalist road.

China has dozens of nuclear power plants under construct-
ion, has completed the Three Gorges Dam -- the largest
power source on earth -- and is tying the nation together
with light rail, bullet trains and highways in infrastruct-
ure projects unlike any the world has ever seen.

Contrast what China is doing with what we are about. We
have declared vast regions of our country, onshore and
offshore, off-limits to drilling for oil and gas. We have
not built a nuclear power plant in 30 years or a refinery
in 25 years. We have declared war on fossil fuels to save
the planet from global warming.

Given the power of the environmental lobby to tie up
projects in endless litigation, we could never today
build our Interstate Highway System, Hoover Dam, the
TVA or the Union Pacific Railroad.

Determined to take America's title as the world's first
manufacturing nation, as she has taken Germany's title as
the world's leading exporter, China keeps her currency
undervalued and demands of those who sell to China that
they also produce in China. As America's share of the
world economy steadily falls, China's share has doubled.
This year, China will overtake Japan as the world's
second-largest economy.

Having seen the Soviet Union disintegrate into 15 nations
and fearing the ethno-nationalism of Tibetans and Uighurs,
Beijing floods her border provinces with Han Chinese.
America, declaring racial, ethnic and religious diversity
a strength, invites the world to come and swamp its native-
born. And mostly poor, unskilled and uneducated, they are
coming by the millions.

China puts savings ahead of spending, production ahead of
consumption, manufacturing ahead of finance. Embracing
free trade, Americans declare that it makes no difference
who produces what, where. What's good for the Global
Economy is good for America.

Before the financial collapse, the U.S. savings rate stood
at zero percent of family income. In China, it ranged
between 35 percent and 50 percent.

Since the Cold War, the United States has been playing
empire -- intervening to punish evil-doers and advance
democracy in Panama, Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia, Kosovo,
Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan.


We have expanded NATO to include Eastern Europe, the Baltic
States and much of the Balkan Peninsula. We have not let a
single alliance lapse from the Cold War. And we have fewer
friends and more adversaries than at the end of the Cold
War. What has all this intervention availed us?

China, having fought no one, has rapidly built up her
military power and developed ties to the growing number of
nations at odds with America, from Russia to Iran to Sudan
to Venezuela.

The Chinese of 2010 call to mind 19th century Americans who
shoved aside Mexicans, Indians and Spanish to populate a
continent, build a mighty nation, challenge the British
Empire -- superpower of the day -- and swiftly move past
her in manufacturing to become first nation on earth. Men
were as awed by America then as they are by China today.

America seems a declining superpower. She cannot defend her
borders, balance her budgets or win her wars. Her education-
al system at the primary and secondary level is a shambles.
In the first decade of the century, she lost one of every
three manufacturing jobs. In this second decade, she is
looking at trillion-dollar deficits to 2020. The world is
losing confidence in her ability to manage her surging
national debt.

While we are finally extricating ourselves after seven
years from an unnecessary war in Iraq, we are heading
deeper into an Afghan war that has lasted a decade, the
end of which it is impossible to see.

During the Cold War, China was in the grip of a millenarian
ideology that blinded her to her true interests. Today,
it is we who are captive to a utopian ideology that is
becoming perilous to the republic.

Let’s imagine the unimaginable; the America Obama envisions.

Religion and Governance in Obama’s America

Everyone has shredded his or her copies of the Constitution, as it is no longer the rules by which the new America abides. In the new United States of America, the majority can be found in various works by Saul Alinsky, George Soros and Franklin Marshall Davis, three gentlemen held in much esteem by America’s President-for-Life, Barack Hussein Obama The rest of the rules of governance for the transformed nation are basically made up as the Obama government goes along.

There is and will be no sign of Christianity or Judaism anywhere in the country; not in schools at any level, not in workplaces, nor in the public squares. Conversely, there are and will be calls to prayer in every American city to summon our Muslim brethren to their prayers five times a day, and prayer rugs and foot baths are and will be ever present, in our schools, again, at every level, in our public buildings, at airports and in churches of every faith, (just in case). And because a private entity could probably be sued for hate crimes if they didn’t have at hand such necessary manifestations of the Muslim doctrine, private venues will have them, as well. There will never again be a word written or spoken about the religion of peace other than apropos to its greatness. Children of all religions will be required to study the Koran, and the great history of Islam. Any recognition of Christmas at any time of the year has been prohibited; ditto Hanukah. Ramadan (and the fasting thereof) will be observed nationally, however, with a now Federally-designated Monday holiday at the end of the religiously-inspired fast.

Education in Obama’s America

In terms of education in the new United States, there is and will no longer be any local or state control over education, again, at all levels, and there will certainly be no parental involvement of any kind. There are and will be no more religious nor private, (with the exception of Muslim schools, of course), nor charter schools, and all voucher programs have been eliminated. Every teacher is and will be an employee of the Federal government, and teachers’ unions have greatly multiplied in their strength, with teachers’ benefits packages having grown equally in size and entitlement. The Federal government thus directs all aspects of the education of our children, from curricula and directives created and implemented by uber educator William Ayres, ably assisted by Kevin Jennings, Obama’s Safe Schools’ Czar and well known child-man sex advocate. Our children will learn lots more catchy Obama ditties, while most physical activity, especially for boys, has been outlawed as potentially unsafe, to be replaced by much healthier and less risky enterprises, such as hula hooping. Certain other things have been prohibited; e.g., if it is seen by school officials that your child is overweight, the state has the right to remove said child from his or her parents and be placed in the more beneficial care of the state. There are and will not be found in school cafeterias any meat, sugar, fat nor salt of any kind. There will be no grades, nor there be schools for special needs’ children, as every child, for self-esteem purposes, will be mainstreamed. Displaying excellence of any kind is and will be discouraged, again for self esteem purposes for the children who could or would not excel. Everyone, of course, will graduate, but will, of course, know not much of anything except the musical Obama paeans that they have been forced to memorize.

Taxes and Finance in Obama’s America

Obama’s government has taken over all the banking and finance institutions, not just the ones nationalized at the beginning, so long ago, of our Supreme Leader’s benevolent reign. The last remaining automobile company in private hands, Ford, has fallen to Federal ownership, thus enabling our government to own the entire American automobile industry, whose unions have grown in strength, enabling all such employees’ pension programs to significantly expand. All student loans, of course, as they already have been taken over by the government, are and will be directed by bureaucrats, as are and will be the now state-owned mortgage companies in the country.

The Federal government is the primary employer, by far, in the United States, as the private sector continues to shrink and contract, thus obliterating the majority of obscene profit-taking, formerly the practice in the old America. Federal regulations have been vastly expanded, thus increasing the amount of taxes needed to fund the activities to take care of 300 million Americans, and will of course come from the private sector. As these taxes continue to grow, private sector businessmen and women will not be able to afford to continue in their professional efforts. Nor will they be able to afford the cost of energy in their businesses, due to numerous factors, among them the complete elimination of all destructive sources of energy like coal and fossil fuel, and now no other form of energy is allowed other than wind and solar power. Another reason for this is the massive taxation imposed by the passage of an enhanced cap and trade legislation, thanks in large part to the efforts of now Senators-for-Life John Kerry and Barbara Boxer. This latter factor not only has transferred the sovereignty of the United States to a panel of global climate change officials (international bureaucrats, which does actually include several Americans), it also requires that all Americans adapt to internationally determined global standards. This would determine (as interpreted by a like group of international bureaucrats, this one mostly Belgians, along with a few Zimbabweans and a Libyan) what kind of house we could live in, what kind of car we could drive, how much electricity we could use if we could use it at all, how many children we are allowed to have, what kind of light bulbs we are permitted to install, what kind of television we would be allowed to watch and for how long daily, what we would be permitted to eat and drink, what kind of trash disposal system we would have, and many more such new rules. There will, of course, no longer be permitted such capitalist frivolities as fur coats, wood-burning fireplaces, lawnmowers or charcoal barbeques. This last one makes perfect sense, as eating meat has been outlawed and barbequed tofu just never caught on.

Health in Obama’s America

Our health, of course, is and will be taken care of for us from birth to death, thanks to Obama. The only wrinkle in this is that our President, in fact our Supreme Leader, and those he has chosen to take care of us will determine whether we could be born at all and when it is best for the state when we die. This is all for our own good, don’t you know? Private insurance companies have disappeared, and there were established another 2,000 separate bureaucracies (containing mostly Americans!) to enable government officials to determine every aspect of our health care. All physicians, along with all other health care providers, are and will be employed by the Federal government, and there are no more privately run health institutions in the new United States of America. These employees have developed a very strong union, and universally excellent pension plans.

Immigration in Obama’s America

We no longer have national borders, of course. Obama can legitimately claim that he saved the nation a great deal of money, as the Federal agencies responsible for border and immigration controls have been abolished. English has been determined to be just one of the languages spoken in our new nation, and those just starting their new lives in the new United States of America are encouraged to hold onto their first language. This works out just fine, as throughout the country, programs have been established in every level and in every form of the government using most of these other languages, along with the increasingly less-spoken English language.

Home and Gun Ownership in Obama’s America

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have been greatly expanded, and are now heavily funded by the federal government. And as they are now completely controlled by the government, aspiring private homeownership using any other such institution are discouraged while steps are being taken to do away with private home ownership entirely.

All private gun ownership has been outlawed, of course, as a result of various UN international treaties. This directive is overseen by a crack special United Nations team, developed for this purpose, which monitors these treaties’ enactment in the new US. There is some confusion in the enactment of these various treaties in one regard, as it was recently determined that representatives of the Internal Revenue Service now need to carry assault weapons, but that will no doubt be resolved satisfactorily, for the state, of course.

U.S. Military in Obama’s America

The U.S military is no longer a significant force in America, nor throughout the world, as individuals contemplating such enlistment are encouraged instead to join one of the various Obama government-run national service organizations, or the various similar such units under the command of the UN, which has an increasing presence in the United States. Members of all such organizations wear the easily identifiable and beautifully hued blue beret.

Media and Communication in Obama’s America

We would have the honor of seeing and listening to our beloved Supreme Leader quite often on the airwaves, in fact for a minimum of 6 hours a day. We would also be able to easily access any of his past speeches at any hour of the night or day, and again, in any language. He would thus be omnipresent, constantly comforting us and reminding us of how wonderful is our new America, and of how grateful we should be that every single aspect of our lives is being seen to by those who know better than we do. Those left to pay taxes for this new nation, which would be, in truth, considerable, are certainly no longer be able to afford things like 2nd homes, vacations or multiple cars, but worry not, because the seaside villas, country cottages and mansions left empty nationwide, along with the limousines, cruise ships and elegant hotels not being used, will not go to waste. Our educated classes who are ruling us will make use of the things no longer available to us as their just reward for their constant and vigilant care of every one of us, and in everything we do.

The Fairness Doctrine was restored at long last, finally bringing justice in all forms of communication in our new nation. You can always find happy groups of children singing wonderful tunes about our S.L., (just about to start his fourth term, Allah be praised), everywhere, on television, the radio (not used much anymore), the Internet (whose content is controlled by a special group created for such purposes at the UN, no Americans in that one), and all other new forms of technological development. Unfortunately, new forms of technological development are not so much forthcoming anymore, as corporations like Apple and Microsoft, as well as smaller but equally inventive companies, have left the US to avoid the taxes they had been requested to pay to enable our new country to exist in its new maternal form. The brave ones who stayed at home saw their companies became even more beneficial to the state once they had all been taken over by our brilliant unelected bureaucrats, and all their employees now have excellent pension plans, much better than they had had under private ownership, and their unions are doing great!

Various forms of entertainment, like men and women talking about the politics and/or events of the day, are things of the past, and the now publically controlled television and radio stations broadcast programs that are much more beneficial to American citizens. Some examples of this programming would be cooking programs specializing in tofu recipes, and hula hoop training. It is especially gratifying to see things like the Miss America pageant be transformed into something much more worthwhile and Obamaic; i.e., a true scholarship program where beauty (now mandated to be relative nationwide) in the contest has been eliminated, and now the winner is determined in large part by devotion and duty to the state. The most recent winner was Miss Virginia, a transgender wheelchair-bound bespectacled light-skinned African-American, whose talent was the nearly perfect recitation of a particularly detailed chapter in the aforementioned Saul Alinsky tome, ‘Rules for Radicals.’ Though English was her second language, Ms. Hrigina-Smith spoke it lyrically, and was understood by the majority of people present.

Historical Monuments in Obama’s America

Since one of the many Obama dictums was the abolition of the tax deduction for charitable contributions, many privately-funded institutions were forced to close. It was originally thought that Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington, who was a slave owner and our first President, (taught in precisely those terms in Obama’s schools), was to be one of these, to the regret of a few in the nation. This was because the former owner, the solely-privately funded Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association, was forced to close as no more funds were forthcoming after this tax code change was enacted. But thanks to our Supreme Leader and his benevolent government, Mount Vernon was saved, (Allah be praised), and it has been as transformed as has been our country. The 18th Century structure, formerly almost of entirely original 18th Century construction, can now accommodate the physically challenged through the installation of several appropriately sized elevators and ramps throughout the house (formerly called the mansion, but that term is no longer used as it has been determined to be classist); and the majority of objects in the museum on the grounds, consisting of items original to the Washingtons, has been removed, sold at a GAO (government General Accounting Office) auction, and replaced with various objects honoring the many slaves of Mt. Vernon owned during the 18th Century by the slave owner, George Washington. The livestock on the former working farm, some of which were perfect examples of the rare breeds General Washington actually had at Mt. Vernon in the 18th Century, were released from captivity when the estate (term also no longer used: classist) became publically owned, as a result of strenuous objections from the organization formerly known as PETA, which is now the Federal agency, ASS, (the Agency for the Supremacy of the animal Soul). As there is no longer a profit component at Mt. Vernon, and as the government has determined that reparations are to be perpetually made to descendants of the slaves of Mt. Vernon from the general intake from Mt. Vernon’s attendance revenue, there is some thought being given to constructing a water slide at the end of the tour in order to attract more German tourists.

Gambling has been outlawed in the new United States of America, as the Koran states that gambling is not a permissible practice. This edict is thought to be responsible for the continued decline and eventual total ruin of the city of Las Vegas, Nevada, a city that was much disliked by the Supreme Leader.

There really have been, and are, governments like this, guided by people and rules like the ones described. And they all failed. Every single one of them, as Obama’s new America will fail. Though that is some solace, it is still nothing but a tragedy for those who love our present America, if Obama and his people succeed. If they do, the America we know and love, which was entrusted to us by George Washington and the others, will have ceased to exist. Forever.

Obama Care In Five Years

The attached article from the Wall Street Journal does a good job pre-saging what will happen with Obama Care. Massachusetts is a basket case and so will the United States once this mis-informed, poorly constructed piece of garbage we call Obama Care takes effect.

What happens when "joe lunch bucket" decides that his fee for no insurance ($75-675/year or 1% of his income) is cheaper than buying insurance each month. After all, should he get sick, all he has to do is go down to his local insurance company and say "give me some of that insurance stuff" and they will have to do it. He will have no pre-ex and no waiting period. Sounds pretty good to me!

THE MASSACHUSETTS INSURANCE BLACKOUT

This week it became impossible in Massachusetts for small businesses and individuals to buy health care coverage after Gov. Deval Patrick (D) imposed price controls on premiums. Under ObamaCare this kind of political showdown will soon be coming to an insurance market near you, says the Wall Street Journal.

The Massachusetts small-group market that serves about 800,000 residents shut down after Patrick kicked off his re-election campaign by presumptively rejecting about 90 percent of the premium increases the state's insurers had asked regulators to approve. Health costs have run off the rails since former GOP Gov. Mitt Romney passed universal coverage in 2006, and Patrick now claims price controls are the sensible response to this ostensibly industry greed.

Yet all of the major Massachusetts insurers are nonprofits, says the Journal:

• Three of largest four -- Blue Cross Blue Shield, Tufts Health Plan and Fallon Community Health -- posted operating losses in 2009.
• In an emergency suit heard in Boston superior court yesterday, they argued that the arbitrary rate cap will result in another $100 million in collective losses this year and make it impossible to pay the anticipated cost of claims.
• It may even threaten the near-term solvency of some companies, so until the matter is resolved, the insurers have simply stopped selling new policies.

A court decision is expected by Monday, but state officials have demanded that the insurers -- under the threat of fines and other regulatory punishments -- resume offering quotes by today and to revert to year-old base premiums. Let that one sink in, says the Journal: Patrick has made the health insurance business so painful the government actually has to order private companies to sell their products (albeit at sub-market costs).

One irony, says the Journal, is that Patrick's own Attorney General and his insurance regulators have concluded -- to their apparent surprise -- that the reason Massachusetts premiums are the highest in the nation is the underlying cost of health care, not the supposed industry abuses that Patrick and his political mentor President Obama like to cite.

"The stupidest program the U.S. government has ever undertaken" – last year that's what I called American efforts to improve the Palestinian Authority (PA) military force. Slightly hyperbolic, yes, but the description fits because those efforts enhance the fightingpower of enemies of the United States and its Israeli ally. First, a primer about the program, drawing on a recent Center of Near East Policy Research study By David Bedein and Arlene Kushner

Shortly after Yasir Arafat died in late 2004, the U.S. government established the Office of the U.S. Security Coordinator to reform, recruit, train, and equip the PA militia (called the National Security Forces or Quwwat al-Amn al-Watani) and make them politically accountable. For nearly all of its existence, the office has been headed by Lt. Gen. Keith Dayton. Since 2007, American taxpayers have funded it to the tune of US$100 million a year. Many agencies of the U.S. government have been involved in the program, including the State Department's Bureau of Diplomatic Security, the Secret Service, and branches of the military.

The PA militia has in total about 30,000 troops, of which four battalions comprising 2,100 troops have passed scrutiny for lack of criminal or terrorist ties and undergone 1,400 hours of training at an American facility in Jordan. There they study subjects ranging from small-unit tactics and crime-scene investigations to first aid and human rights law.

With Israeli permission, these troops have deployed in areas of Hebron, Jenin, and Nablus. So far, this experiment has gone well, prompting widespread praise. Senator John Kerry(Democrat of Massachusetts) calls the program "extremely encouraging" and Thomas Friedman of the New York Times discerns in the U.S.-trained troops a possible "Palestinian peace partner for Israel" taking shape.

Looking ahead, however, I predict that those troops will more likely be a war partner than a peace partner for Israel. Consider the troops' likely role in several scenarios:

No Palestinian state: Dayton proudly calls the U.S.-trained forces "founders of a Palestinian state," a polity he expects to come into existence by 2011. What if – as has happened often before – the Palestinian state does not emerge on schedule? Dayton himself warns of "big risks," presumably meaning that his freshly-minted troops would start directing their firepower against Israel.

Palestinian state: The PA has never wavered in its goal of eliminating Israel, as the briefest glance at documentation collected by Palestinian Media Watch makes evident. Should the PA achieve statehood, it will certainly pursue its historic goal – only now equipped with a shiny new American-trained soldiery and arsenal.

The PA defeats Hamas: For the same reason, in the unlikely event that the PA prevails over Hamas, its Gaza-based Islamist rival, it will by incorporate Hamas troops into its own militia and then order the combined troops to attack Israel. The rival organizations may differ in outlook, methods, and personnel, but they share the overarching goal of eliminating Israel.

Hamas defeats the PA: Should the PA succumb to Hamas, will absorb at least some of "Dayton's men" into its own militia and deploy them in the effort to eliminate the Jewish state.

Hamas and PA cooperate: Even as Dayton imagines he is preparing a militia to fight Hamas, the PA leadership participates in Egyptian-sponsored talks with Hamas about power sharing – raising the specter that the U.S. trained forces and Hamas will coordinate attacks on Israel.

The law of unintended consequences provides one temporary consolation: As Washington sponsors the PA forces and Tehran sponsors those of Hamas, Palestinian forces are more ideologically driven, perhaps weakening their overall ability to damage Israel.

Admittedly, Dayton's men are behaving themselves at present. But whatever the future brings – state, no state, Hamas defeats the PA, the PA defeats Hamas, or the two cooperate – these militiamen will eventually turn their guns against Israel. When that happens, Dayton and the geniuses idealistically building the forces of Israel's enemy will likely shrug and say, "No one could have foreseen this outcome."

Not so: Some of us foresee it and are warning against it. More deeply, some of us understand that the 1993 Oslo process did not end the Palestinian leadership's drive to eliminate Israel. The Dayton mission needs to be stopped before it does more harm. Congress should immediately cut all funding for the Office of the U.S. Security Coordinator.
