I just finished listening to a 40 minute video of a Glenn Beck program last week after the Obama speech where he "suggested" that Israel retreat to the 1967 borders. Whether you like Glenn or cannot stand him, it is time well spent to listen to his message. I believe he is on the right track and that our either naive or self-absorbed President is taking the wrong course.
Glenn explores the geography and history of the region and explains why the Obama approach is one of national suicide if it is followed by Israel.
Please take the time to listen and as always, please become a follower and comment on the posts. Here is the link:

Like West did, Beck and his guest misrepresent what Obama said. Beck makes no reference whatsoever to mutually agreed land swaps to protect Israel's security needs, which is what Obama proposed. For example, Israel could take more land around the airport to widen the 8-mile strip to whatever width they require for security purposes. Likewise, they could have a military base on the Golan Heights or whatever else they think they need to protect themselves from Syria. If the Palestinians refused to do these kinds of land swaps, there would be no deal. That is the plan Obama proposed. He made this very clear yesterday that he is NOT proposing a "retreat to the 1967 borders."
ReplyDeleteHere is the press release that AIPAC itself issued….
"AIPAC appreciates President Obama’s speech today at our annual policy conference in which he reaffirmed the importance of the U.S.-Israel relationship and the shared values that define both nations. In particular, we appreciate his statement that the U.S. does not expect Israel to withdraw to the boundaries that existed between Israel and Jordan in 1967 before the Six Day War. We also commend President Obama for his explicit condemnation of Hamas as a terrorist organization and his recognition that Israel cannot be expected to negotiate with a group that denies its fundamental right to exist. We also welcome the president’s reaffirmation of his long-standing commitment to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons."
AIPAC understands what Obama proposed. West and Beck do not, or, if they do, then they are deliberately misleading.

In response to David's comment, the message that obama gave was heard loud and clear in the Arab street. You should view the sites and you will see there is an understanding that Obama wants a retreat to the 1967 borders. Whatever he says now is cover for the mistake that he made. I heard him loud and clear and so did the Arab street. The poop is out of the goose and you cannot put it back in!
ReplyDeleteRegarding the expanded areas around the airport etal, why should Israel retreat at all? Did they not win that land after being attacked? Should the US return Texas to Mexico? Any concessions are ridiculous, we see what it did in Gaza.
In the words of the great American philosopher Paul Simon, "Still, a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest."
ReplyDeleteThat observation applies to West, Beck, and Arabs, but for different reasons.
The "Obama proposed 1967 borders" claim affords West and Beck an easy strawman to shoot at, and it gives the Arabs something to cheer about, if Obama actually said it.
The fact that he didn't say it is of no significance to West, Beck, or the Arabs.
You wrote: "Whatever he says now is cover for the mistake he made." Well, I heard both speeches, and he said the same thing about 1967 borders with land swaps on Sunday that he said on Thursday.
