Bringing New Technology To The Mideast Conflict.

Hamas Sends Threatening Text Messages to Israelis

On Saturday, hundreds of Israelis were sent threatening text messages, allegedly by Hamas. Over several hours, Hamas sent messages warning Israelis that it would conquer Israel and threatened to carry out more rocket attacks.
The text messages also threatened that Hamas would carry out more kidnapping attempts against soldiers and civilians, saying that they would “be the next Shalite,” referencing formerly kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit who was held hostage by Hamas in Gaza for five years.
The messages came from private or blocked numbers emanating from Palestinian Arab area codes, as well as several fake Israeli numbers.
The threats coincided with the tenth anniversary of the assassination by Israel of Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin. Yassin, who was the spiritual guide of Hamas, encouraged suicide bombings against Israel. He was killed in an IAF targeted airstrike on March 22, 2004.

The messages may also be a response to an IDF raid that took place on Saturday in Jenin that killed three terrorists, including a Hamas operative.
One of the messages read, “A warning to the Zionists. The al-Qassam rockets are waiting for you. If you want your life, then get out of our land.”

A second message said, “Al-Qassam promised revenge and there was revenge. And the score isn’t settled, and the next one will be even more terrible.”
A third message promised, “In the next war all of Palestine will be returned.”

Recipients of the texts included deputy ministers, government officials, and Israeli journalists.
During the hours the hostile messages were sent, the Israeli defense news website Israeldefense.com was hacked for a short period. Hackers displayed pictures of Yassin, and uploaded threats such as “This is a reminder to you that we will not forget the blood of our Sheikh. We vow again to take revenge, and this time to cut off the heads of your commander.”
“You murdered our Sheikh with missiles and now our missiles reach everywhere in your state,” the hackers threatened.
