Former White House Press Secretary Jay Carney.

The 49-year-old spin doctor received a signing bonus to join the Washington Speakers Bureau, which could result in payments of up to $100,000 per speech.
Carney will be in huge demand with universities, corporations and trade associations while discussing anecdotes about working with President Barack Obama as well as his views on the upcoming midterm and presidential elections.
The fees he receives from the speaking circuit will give Carney time to consider job offers, including positions in public relations firms, consulting companies and even Silicon Valley, Politico said.
Although the former Time magazine Washington bureau chief will be making the rounds of cable and TV news shows as a paid pundit, Carney says he has no plans at the moment to write a book.
"I’m just talking to a lot of people about a bunch of potentially interesting things," Carney told Politico. "I’m just having conversations."
Following in the footsteps of other senior administration officials from the past, Carney has hired Washington super lawyer Robert Barnett to help him negotiate any deals, Politico said.
"He knew how everything worked," said President George W. Bush’s first spokesman Ari Fleischer, noting that Barnett arranged a book auction that netted a large advance for his memoirs "Taking Heat."
Carney, who was replaced by his deputy Josh Earnest, plans to spend time this summer with his wife, ABC news correspondent Claire Shipman, and their two children. But when he gets back to work full-time, it is estimated that he’ll earn around $1.5 million in total compensation if he signs with a corporation or consulting firm, Politico said.
The car service Uber has already shown an interest in Carney, according to the tech news site Re/code. But he would more likely receive a cache of stock options rather than a large salary.
