GUESS WHICH SENATOR USES TAX MONEY TO PAY FOR HIS $4,400 CHARTERED FLIGHTS?
Democrat Sen. Jay Rockefeller travels nearly exclusively by private jet, which is a bit excessive considering he lives in West Virginia, a mere 60 miles from Washington, D.C.
And get this… every time Rockefeller boards his multi-million dollar jet to fly to D.C. (or just about anywhere else), he makes taxpayers pick up the tab.
Now, to be fair, it is not out of the ordinary for taxpayers to pay for official business trips made by politicians. That is to be expected.
But why does Rockefeller need to book a private jet to the tune of $4,400 per trip — when the same exact flight would only cost $206 on a normal airline?
Rockefeller is spending more than 20 times as much money on his flight… because it’s more convenient (and luxurious) for him.
This is the kind of exorbitant cost that should never, ever be funded by tax dollars. And yet every single day, Americans are funding both Democrats and RINOs for things that are grossly exorbitant and frivolous.
Oh, and in case you didn’t know, Jay Rockefeller belongs to the Rockefeller family, perhaps one of the richest families to have ever walked the face of the earth. So it’s not as if he needs the money.
Just how out of line are Rockefeller’s travel expenses? The Washington Examiner reports:
The travel costs he billed to taxpayers over the past three years were greater than all but 11 senators, including those from Alaska, Washington state, Montana and other far-flung locales, a Washington Examiner analysis of Senate travel records reveals.…Rockefeller also left his Capitol Hill trappings to mingle with West Virginia residents fewer than 11 times per year, even though his home state is only an hour away. That means Rockefeller goes home less often than nearly every other member of Congress, yet his total travel costs are among the highest, all despite representing a state that on a clear day can almost be seen from the Capitol dome.Rockefeller’s 32 trips in the past three years cost taxpayers $141,408 for the chartered aircraft. Meanwhile, 40 members of his staff traveled back and forth regularly for less than half that price, combined. The records don’t indicate whether the staffers drove or flew.
Now that is outrageous.
We already know taxes are too high, but to see blatant government waste is revolting.
Fortunately, Rockefeller will be retiring at the end of his term in January. Yet it’s still imperative that Americans turnout in big numbers to elect true conservative candidates (not neocon Republicans) — so that we can curb this kind of financial abuse.
