Search resumes for missing AirAsia jet

Searching has resumed off the coast of Indonesia for a missing passenger jet carrying 162 people,CNN reports.
AirAsia Flight QZ8501 lost contact with air traffic controllers on it way from Indonesia to Singapore on Sunday morning local time, but the search was halted until daybreak.
Now, light has allowed the search to resume.
The Guardian reports that Indonesian military is deploying two planes, two helicopters and six ships for the search.
The cause of the disappearance of the flight is not yet known. There has been speculation that the weather could be involved, due to reports that the plane requested a change in altitute to avoid a thunderstorm shortly before losing contact with air traffic control.
There is no record of a distress call from the flight. 
President Obama was briefed on the disappearance on Saturday night in Hawaii, and White House officials said they were continuing to monitor the situation.
