WARRIOR, Ala. (FOX 13) -
An Alabama family took matters into their own hands the other day, holding a group of alleged thieves at gunpoint until authorities arrived to make an arrest.
The entire ordeal was caught on camera.
On Friday, the Wyatt family says that their Warrior, Ala., home was broken into, and they caught it on all on a home surveillance system. On Sunday, they say the alleged criminals returned to the scene of the crime.
A local TV news crew was at the home interviewing them about what happened Friday. The family had two TVs and their Christmas presents stolen. Surveillance video showed the criminals barging into their home and then leaving the scene.
As they were doing the interview, the family says the thieves drove by their house.
"They happen to drive by and we seen them drive by, and we knew it was them and we stopped them," Chris Wyatt said.
Family members grabbed their guns, chased them down the street, and held two women and one man at gunpoint. The dramatic scene all unfolded on the local TV news crew's cameras.
Deputies say the trio is charged with carrying out a break-in just an hour before it happened. The items were found in their vehicle. However, they have not found the Wyatt's items yet. Charges are still pending in that case.
"Sure hope so, if they don't, at least we're all safe and in one piece, and they are off the street for now," Sarah Wyatt said.
