A Responsible Parent Teaches Their Children To Respect The Tools They Use

From: Right To Bear  Blog:

The Strange Thing This Famous Actress Did With A Toy Gun Will Restore Your Faith In Humanity

31038193_sYou don’t need me to convince you most of the people who live in the fairy tale world of Hollywood are clueless about guns and responsible gun ownership.
They generally just parrot whatever the media says about guns so they’ll appear educated and refined.
Well not all of the people in Hollywood are idiots when it comes to guns and gun ownership.
In fact one actress is so astute she’s actually teaching her young boy responsible gun handling now with the toy gun she just bought him.
IJ Review writes:
Actress Selma Blair has taught her son a lesson about guns that the ‘politically correct’ crowd might have some issues with:
She bought her four-year-old son Arthur a toy gun as a way to teach him about gun safety.
She explained to People that while he’s going as a police officer for Halloween, he cannot bring it out of the house:
“I bought him a cap gun and I talked about it with his dad, and it’s taken very seriously.”
“I won’t let him carry around the play gun for Halloween. He doesn’t get to carry it around outside.”
The 43-year-old mom said that the toy came as a reaction with her son’s natural curiosity about guns:
“He would take a flower and break it and turn it into a gun — bang bang. I mean, that’s his thing. So whether I bought him a gun or not, he finds a way to do it.”
But some ground rules were set, forcing the young one to respect the toy gun:
“I’m new at navigating this. He only plays with this cap gun with Mom or Dad around, and he seems to respect it so far and understands that these are plastic toys, and we don’t shoot people.”
Blair’s sister was a police officer, so she has a lot of respect for firearms.
“I know how to shoot one very well. My sister was a police officer and I have tremendous respect and caution around guns.”
Elizabeth Kiefer of Refinery 29 believes that Blair’s line of reasoning makes sense: If you’re going to give your child a fake gun, they should know and respect it as if it were a real weapon.
Would you look at that…Blair isn’t offended by the notion of her kid having a gun.
In fact she’s doing the appropriate thing and teaching her child to respect it.
Truthfully if more gun owners would treat their guns with respect then liberals would have even less room to talk when they go on and on about the danger of guns.
There are far too many cases where gun owners leave their firearm un-attended and in easy reach of children. And the instances where children harm themselves with those weapons are a real tragedy.
Perhaps if every parent taught their children about guns like Blair is doing there would be far fewer accidents involving firearms every year.
Do you think she’s doing the right thing even though it’s only a toy gun?
