Mike Huckabee: No matter what the president said about Charlottesville, he would have been condemned
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) appeared on “Fox and Friends Weekend” on Sunday to discuss President Donald Trump’s actions relating to the Charlottesville protests.
Trump held a news conference on Saturday in which he condemned the violence occurring in Virginia. The president then took to Twitter to share his message:
According to Huckabee, there’s not much more Trump could have said in order to condemn the violence that took place in Charlottesville on Saturday. When Trump made his condemnation statement, not very much information was known about the driver, Huckabee said. We didn’t know the suspect’s name or his personal beliefs.
“I think it was smart not to jump to a conclusion. We would have condemned him for that,” Huckabee told the Fox News team. “Look, here’s the fact. No matter what Donald Trump said, there are going to be people who condemn his every word, his every action. Nothing will ever satisfy the Trump haters. And there are a lot of Trump haters within the Republican Party who jumped on him as well.”
“Let me just be clear. Donald Trump is no more responsible for Charlottesville than Barak Obama was personally responsible for Baltimore and Ferguson,” the former governor added.
Co-host Pete Hegseth pointed out that the media was quick to condemn Trump, to which Huckabee agreed.
