Conyers Gets Slammed By Liberal Newspaper

‘John Conyers must resign’: Democratic rep’s hometown paper calls for his ouster

Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.) has served the state of Michigan as a congressman since 1965. But after the revelation that he paid a former staffer to keep quiet about sexual harassment, his hometown newspaper wants him out of office.

‘Hush money’

The editorial board of the Detroit Free Press published an editorial with a simple premise: Conyers must resign.
“It is the kind of behavior that can never be tolerated in a public official, much less an elected representative of the people,” the editorial read.
“He should resign his position and allow the investigation into his behavior to unfold without the threat that it would render him, and the people he now represents, effectively voiceless,” it went on.
After a former staffer made a formal complaint of sexual harassment to the U.S. Congress Office of Compliance, Conyers offered to re-hire her as a temporary no-show employee and pay her more than $27,000 over the course of three months in exchange for her dropping the complaint and signing a document absolving Conyers of any wrongdoing. She accepted.
“It looks an awful lot like hush money,” the editorial read.

‘Undisputed hero of civil rights’

The editorial board took a tone of disappointment and reluctance in calling for Conyers’ resignation.
After all, Conyers has served Michigan constituents for more than 53 years in Congress, and longer than that as a social activist.
“We reach this conclusion with an incredible amount of disappointment,” they wrote. “The word ‘hero’ is invoked, without much hyperbole, around Conyers’ name, dating not only to his initial run for Congress the mid 1960s, but to the stalwart civil rights activism in the 1950s and early 1960s that brought him to that point.
Some of Conyers’ accomplishments include:
  • He’s the first African-American to hold the distinction as Dean (most senior member) of Congress.
  • He introduced the original legislation to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a federal holiday — four days after King’s death. The bill would pass in 1983.
  • He’s the founding member and Dean of the Congressional Black Caucus.
  • He’s the ranking member of the House Committee on the Judiciary.
  • He’s a veteran of the Korean War.
Despite all that, the conclusion remains the same: Conyers’ behavior is unacceptable, and he’s got to go.
“It’s a tragic end to his public career,” the editorial reads. “But it’s the appropriate consequence for the stunning subterfuge his office has indulged here, and a needed warning to other members of Congress that this can never be tolerated.”

Michigan Looking At Bill To Make Those Who Request A Recount, Pay For It

BREAKING: Lawmakers Hit Stein With Horrible News… Move to Confiscate Recount War Chest

 Print

Americans from both major political parties have been outraged over former Green Party nominee Jill Stein’s attempts to launch recounts in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — states that were key to President-elect Donald Trump’s victory.
In Michigan especially, where taxpayers would have had to fork over millions for the recount, some lawmakers were trying to pass legislation that would ensure that something like this never happens again — while leaving the door open for the possibility of legitimate recount efforts in the future, Detroit Free Press reported.
A bill that passed the Michigan House Elections Committee on Tuesday would make it so that candidates who lose the election by more than 5 percent would have to pay the entire cost of the recount.

Currently, Michigan law states that candidates who are filing for a recount (and have lost by more than 0.5 percent) must pay $125 per district for te recount.
That means that Stein payed roughly $1 million for the recount — and that Michigan taxpayers paid about $4 million, The Detroit News noted.
The current bill would retroactively take effect back to January 1, 2016. That means that much of Stein’s $7 million war chest would essentially be confiscated by the state due to the recount efforts.

This bill would help stop people like Stein from taking advantage of the taxpayers again — and it would ensure that only die-hard liberal supporters of Stein (or some other candidate) would actually fork over the money to help with the recount.
Having the ability to request a recount is an important part of our democracy, but people like Stein are just looking to abuse the system to make a name for themselves — they don’t care what it costs the taxpayers.
Share this on Facebook and Twitter and let us know what you think Stein will do with the money she didn’t spend on the recount.

What do you think of this proposed law?

Jill Stein's Recount In Michigan May Be Blocked

BREAKING: Michigan Attorney General Makes Recount Announcement

 Print

Leftist Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein has seemingly been trying to aid the failed campaign of Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton by pushing for a recount of the votes in three states narrowly won by President-elect Donald Trump: Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
But if Michigan’s Republican Attorney General Bill Schuette has anything to say about it, there will be no recount, according to WZZM.
Schuette filed legal documents with the court Friday asking the Michigan Board of Canvassers and the Supreme Court to put a halt to the recount effort, claiming that Stein didn’t qualify as an “aggrieved” candidate to seek one since she only garnered roughly 1 percent of the vote and that there wasn’t sufficient time for a recount even if she were qualified to demand one.

“Michigan voters rejected Stein’s candidacy by massive margins, but her refusal to accept that state-verified result poses an expensive and risky threat to hardworking taxpayers and abuses the intent of Michigan law,” Schuette said, according to Politico.
“We have asked the court to end the recount which Stein is pursuing in violation of Michigan laws that protect the integrity of our elections,” he added. “It is inexcusable for Stein to put Michigan voters at risk of paying millions and potentially losing their voice in the Electoral College in the process.”
Schuette’s lawsuit also asked that the recount effort be dismissed due to the fact that even Stein herself has acknowledged that there was no evidence of any sort of fraud or widespread errors in favor of any candidate.

As for the cost to Michigan taxpayers for a recount, Schuette was likely referring to report from the Detroit Free Press noting that a statewide recount could cost nearly twice as much as originally thought, nearly $2 million total.
The state has charged Stein $125 per precinct for the recount, or roughly $800,000, but if the actual recount ends up costing more than what Stein paid, the state’s taxpayers will be on the hook for the cost overrun, which could be more than $1 million.
For the record, Michigan certified the results of the election on Monday, declaring Trump the winner by a margin of just 10,704 votes.
Please share this on Facebook and Twitter to spread the word that the Michigan attorney general is trying to put a stop to Jill Stein’s Clinton-helping recount in the state.

What do you think of the Michigan attorney general filing a lawsuit to stop the recount effort pushed by Jill Stein?

Michigan Illegal Alien Finally Is Arrested By ICE But Only After Local Press Coverage.

SICK: Illegal Alien Gets Drunk, Spots 13-Year-Old Girl, Then Says the 3 Words Every Parents Dreads

A 13-year-old girl was harassed and nearly abducted by a drunken illegal immigrant recently in the town of Milford, Michigan.
According to the Detroit Free Press, the incident occurred on Oct. 18, when 43-year-old Elias Lopez yelled at the girl in Spanish, approached her and said “Come with me,” while offering her $100 and attempting to grab her arm.
The girl resisted and ran toward a friend’s house, where she reportedly arrived “extremely upset, crying and nearly hyperventilating.”
The police were called and quickly found Lopez, who blew a .19 on the breathalyzer — more than twice the legal limit, — and appeared to have urinated on himself.
Once it was discovered that Lopez was an illegal immigrant, Immigration and Customs Enforcement was notified, but they declined to come and get him, forcing the Milford police to release him with a mere citation for disorderliness.
Sponsored by Revcontent
“We’re actually obligated to treat (an illegal immigrant) same as everyone else,” stated an “extremely disappointed” Milford Police Chief Tom Lindberg. “We can’t detain them any longer than we could detain anyone else.”
However, an outcry from the community must have reached the right ears, as ICE seemed to sing a different tune just days later, coming to arrest Lopez at the Mexican restaurant where he worked as a cook.
“I’m very proud ICE did the right thing,” Lindberg said, noting the abundance of “negative comments” after the local Milford Times had run a story on the incident.
“I think the community will appreciate that (ICE) came out to get him,” Lindberg added. “We don’t want this person lurking around Milford. I wanted him out of here.”
Lopez will now reside at the Wayne County Jail while he awaits an administrative hearing to determine when and if he will be deported.
Thankfully, this illegal immigrant wasn’t able to fulfill his sick and drunken desires regarding a 13-year-old girl, whatever they may have been.
Hopefully he is quickly deported and never tries to come back to this country to prey on our children in the future.

So How Is Distributing Heroin, Cocaine And Marijuana A Victim-less Crime? Only a Drug User Could Think That Way!

WATCH: Obama Commutes Michigan Man's Life Sentence

“Their punishments didn’t fit the crime,” president says in video message announcing he’ll free 46 federal prisoners in November.

WATCH: Obama Commutes Michigan Man's Life Sentence
President Obama commuted the sentence of a Detroit man sent to prison for life on drug charges, saying it and nearly four dozen other federal inmates’ sentences are too harsh.
Patrick Roberts, 65, was sentenced to life in prison in 1999 after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute heroin, cocaine and marijuana, the Detroit Free Press reports. Roberts had four previous drug convictions, and sentencing guidelines at the time made the life prison sentence mandatory.
Robert is serving his sentence at the federal prison in Terre Haute, IN. Previous requests to have his sentence reduced were denied.
In a video message, Obama said the inmates “were not hardened criminals.” Mot had been sentenced to at least 20 years.
“Their punishments didn’t fit the crime,” Obama said in the message.
“I’ve made clear to them that re-entering society is going to require responsibility on their part and hard work and smarter choices,” the president said. “But I believe that at it’s heart, America’s a nation of second chances and I believe these folks deserve their second chance.”
The 46 federal prisoners whose sentences were commuted by Obama all had been convicted on drug charges, and their sentences will all end on Nov. 10.
Roberts is the only one from Michigan included in the order.

The U.S. government suffered a steeper loss than originally reported on the American taxpayers' General Motors bailout, according to a Treasury Department report cited by the Detroit Free Press.

Taxpayers actually lost $11.2 billion, up from the $10.3 billion the Treasury Department estimated when it unloaded its last GM shares last December, the newspaper said – close to $1 billion more than previously acknowledged.

Much of the extra loss came in the form an "administrative claim" tied to the GM bailout, and surfaced in a report of the Office of the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program.

The U.S. government distributed $50.2 billion in emergency aid to GM in late 2008 and early 2009 to help the company limp through the economic crisis and survive Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2009.

GM announced
it will nominate a United Auto Workers (UAW) official for the company board of directors at the annual meeting on June 10.

If elected, Joe Ashton, a UAW vice president, would become the first union representative to have ever served on GM's board, The Washington Post reported.

The move is highly unusual and almost unheard of at American companies, The Post noted.

"If board members are representatives of a union, the concern is that they could have a conflict of interest between what is best for employees and what is best for shareholders," the Post reported. "How will they vote if management believes a plant closure or round of layoffs is essential for long-term shareholder value?"

Last week, GM reported its net income in the first quarter of 2014 fell more than 80 percent, mostly because of costs associated with the recalls of millions of vehicles over faulty ignition switches.

The auto giant disclosed it is being investigated by both the Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission for its handling of the faulty switches, which have been blamed for a number of accidental deaths, The New York Times reported.

Detroit's Idiots Strike (Literally) Again. Animals Do Not Treat Their Own Like These Creatures From The Lagoon Do!

Driver Hits Kid Crossing Street. What the Witnesses Did When He Got Out of the Vehicle to Help Is Stunning.

Detroit police are on the hunt for a mob that severely beat a pickup truck driver who reportedly hit a boy trying to cross a street Wednesday afternoon. The driver exited his vehicle to check on the child’s condition and was then attacked, police said.
Police say the 54-year-old driver, whose wallet was stolen in the assault, wasn’t at fault for the accident and is hospitalized in critical condition, according to WWJ-TV in Detroit.

Officer Keisha Beasley-Dorsey confirmed to TheBlaze Thursday that “10 to 12 black males” attacked the driver.
“He could potentially die,” Sgt. Michael Woody told the Detroit Free Press, adding that the driver sustained multiple, serious head injuries.
He’s “still hanging on to his life,” Woody told the Detroit News.
The driver’s son told WXYZ-TV that his father has bleeding on the brain and family members are waiting to see if he needs brain surgery.
“He got his,” one woman who declined to give her name told the Free Press. “He got beat up real bad.”
“I think it lasted about one minute and then they let him go. And then they jumped back on him again and they did it about three times and finally someone was trying to help the guy that got beat up,” a witness who didn’t want to reveal his identity told WXYZ. “It was sad because I knew the guy was getting out of his car to try and see what damage he did.”
The boy was being treated for a broken leg at the same hospital and was expected to recover, theDetroit News reported. Detroit police confirmed to TheBlaze that he is 10.
James Duston Jr. told WXYZ he’s the boy’s godfather and said his name is David.
“David was laying right in front of the driveway and he had blood coming out of his mouth,” Dunston Jr. told WXYZ. “He couldn’t move his body.”
Dunston Jr., who said he witnessed the beating, said the family doesn’t approve of it.
“We don’t condone that at all. I told his mom and she just was like, no, we wouldn’t want that to happen,” Duston added to WXYZ. “I did see it happening. But my main concern honestly was on David. But then I thought they had stopped. But I don’t know. My concern was on my godson at the time.”

The woman who asked the Free Press to not identify her said she saw the truck hit the boy after he and about three other children tried to cross the street toward a gas station.
“This little boy was screaming,” the woman told the Free Press. “There was a lot of people that came out. It was crazy.” She said she and family members watched a group of males beat up the driver, who then went to the gas station for help.

Debra Hughes, who told WWJ-TV in Detroit she’s a registered nurse, described a different scene in which she intervened and stopped the attack.
“He was already down, bleeding from the mouth and the nose — so there wasn’t nothing else they could do to him but kill him,” Hughes told WWJ.
“Then EMS came and I kept him calm, I kept his hands down and everything so he could be comfortable,” Hughes added. “He had the biggest gash on his head I ever seen — he was bleeding from the mouth and he was unconscious when I first got there.”
The woman who declined to give her name to the Free Press also said she’s become concerned over motorists “driving up and down the street fast” in the neighborhood where children often play.
