Sen. John McCain has warned that President Barack Obama could face impeachment if he put “boots on the ground” in Syria.

"No one wants American boots on the ground," the Arizona Republican told Phoenix CBS affiliate KFYI-TV on Thursday. "Nor will there be American boots on the ground because there would be an impeachment of the president if they did that.

"The fact is [Syrian President] Bashar Assad has massacred 100,000 people," McCain added. "The conflict is spreading … The Russians are all in, the Iranians are all in — and it’s an unfair fight."

McCain, the 2008 GOP presidential candidate, made his remarks after a town hall meeting with about 150 Phoenix residents that focused on Syria.

“The president has bungled this beyond belief,” he said, referring to Obama's handling of the Syrian situation. "Announced that he’s going to strike and then say, ‘No, I’m going to the American Congress.’ I can’t believe how badly he’s mishandled this issue.”

He reiterated that the U.S. would not send troops to Syria in response to Assad's Aug. 21 chemical weapons attacks on rebel-held suburbs of Damascus.

The White House has said that more than 1,400 people, including more than 400 children, died in the assaults.

"I am unalterably opposed to having a single American boot on the ground in Syria,” McCain said. “The American people wouldn’t stand for it.

“Second of all, it would not be anything but counterproductive to do that," he added. "American blood and treasure is too precious to do that.”

He told KFYI after the session that he understood American's skittishness about a Syrian strike.

“They are largely against any action in Syria — and I understand their skepticism,” McCain said.

The Morsi Dollar Absorbing Rathole

We are always amazed with the Obama Administration  Their ability to choose the wrong side of every issue is incredible.  Just look at Egypt and its deposed leader Morsi.  Obama went out of his way to praise him even though even us peons knew that the new leader had extensive ties with the Muslim Brotherhood which could not be good for US-Egyptian relations. Yet the "bright people" in Washington were praising the new relationship.

When the Obama-nuts announced the billions of weapons being given to Egypt, we scratched our heads and asked one question--why?  Morsi had made it clear he was not a friend of Israel and by extension the US, he had imposed a very Sharia oriented Constitution on his people and he had not protected the rights of religious minorities in the country. Why would we be giving him this aid?

There was only one reason, the liberal desire to be liked. If we give them the aid, they will like us.  When are we as a country going to understand that giving "stuff", whether it be money or materiel, it will not make us liked.  Heck, most of the countries to which we give things vote against us in the UN.  When are we going to wake up?

Money does not make friends no better than spoiling your child will make him or her respectful of  you.  It is time that the US realized that friends cannot be bought and that we must act ONLY in our own self interests.  We should start by withdrawing from the UN, then stop all foreign aid to countries who do not support our goals, strengthen our borders and use all the left over money to rebuild our bridges and roads.  Let's start worrying about ourselves first and let the rest of the world find out that our role as world-wide peacemaker must be taken up by others.  We doubt there are others who will take the role!

No matter how much we would love to see the aforementioned occur, it will not. The "smart people" in Washington love their interventionist ideas and are so unschooled in people skills that they believe love can be demanded. We will continue to bumble along losing personnel, money and materiel and keep wondering ""why don't they love us?"

Obama is just another one of those who thinks that he can command respect by his oratory and strength of personality. He cannot and will continue to saddle up with those whose interests are diametrically apposed to ours.  He is a loser and so are his advisers. We have an ego-driven narcissist being lead by career bureaucrats who have no idea how the world works. We have a mess.

Can we have a re-boot of the 2008 and 2012 elections?  It might turn out differently this time!

Ros-Lehtinen to Newsmax: Obama 'Bet on Wrong Folks' in Egypt

The military coup in Egypt shows that “the Obama administration has thoroughly failed when it comes to handling the post-Arab Spring revolution,” Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen tells Newsmax TV.

“They've bet on the wrong folks time and time again,” the Florida Republican tells Newsmax in an exclusive interview. “Many of us in Congress were saying: ‘Guys, look at the Muslim Brotherhood. This is a group that's going to take over — and it's not going to be what you think.’”

Story continues below video.

On Wednesday, Egyptian Army chief Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi announced that President Mohammed Morsi had been removed and was replaced with the chief justice of the Supreme Constitutional Court. He also suspended the Islamist-backed constitution and called for early presidential elections.

Editor's Note: Should ObamaCare Be Repealed? Vote in Urgent National Poll

Morsi’s ouster as the nation’s first elected leader comes two years after the overthrow of President Hosni Mubarak in another popular uprising.

The Arab world's most populous nation has been in turmoil since the fall of Mubarak as Arab Spring uprisings took hold in early 2011, arousing concern among allies in the West and in Israel, with which Egypt has a 1979 peace treaty.

First elected to the House in 1989, Ros-Lehtinen is the senior woman Republican in the lower chamber. She was chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and currently is chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Middle East and South Asia.

“The Obama administration is adrift when it comes to policy in the Middle East or North Africa,” she tells Newsmax. “Morsi came in with the Muslim Brotherhood. What does that mean?

“They were anti-Christian, anti-minority, anti-women — and one year after Morsi won in ‘his election’ and all of the millions of dollars that the Obama administration badly wasted in this government, the people have risen up and said: ‘No, you have failed us. We want you out. We want to try again.’”

The United States sends $1.5 billion annually in military and economic assistance to Egypt.

Sen. Patrick Leahy, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on the State Department and Foreign Operations, said on Wednesday that federal law prohibits aid being provided when a democratically elected government is deposed by military coup or decree.

The Egyptian support would be reconsidered in upcoming budget talks, Leahy said.

But the issue has long been settled, as far as Ros-Lehtinen is concerned.

“It is way past time to suspend the aid,” she tells Newsmax. “Why are we giving money to theocratic regimes or to autocratic regimes? It's not like we don’t have a lot of problems here at home. Let's use the money wisely. Let's leverage it so we can help countries become stronger and freer and more democratic, which is in our national-security interest.

“Giving money to someone who's a thug and wishing and hoping and praying that they're going to turn into a Jeffersonian Democrat is wrongheaded. It’s foolish and it's never worked — and it's proven again with Egypt,” she says.

When she chaired the Foreign Affairs Committee, Ros-Lehtinen tells Newsmax that she put holds on aid to Egypt and similar rogue nations, but that the Obama White House always “went over our heads” to obtain the assistance.

She frets whenever President Barack Obama or Secretary of State John Kerry visit foreign nations, too.

Editor's Note: Should ObamaCare Be Repealed? Vote in Urgent National Poll

“They give money away as if they were Santa Claus, giving people millions of millions of dollars,” Ros-Lehtinen says. “We need transparency. We need accountability. We need to see that the money that we're using to help us build friendships and keep our country strong is a really effective way of using American taxpayer dollars.”

Because the Obama administration backed the deposed president, it became clear to the Egyptian people whose side the United States was on, Ros-Lehtinen says.

“We gave Morsi a lot of money. We just threw that money down a rabbit hole. It's wasted. They know that the U.S. government was standing firmly with Morsi — and look what the Egyptian people did? They rose up.

“Now, it doesn't mean that all the folks demonstrating there are good guys,” she cautions. “There are going to be a lot of hot-headed factions there, but it's important for the United States to be cautious to not do anything that will exacerbate the violence.

“This could lead to a very bloody road and what the Egyptian people want it to live in freedom and democracy,” Ros-Lehtinen tells Newsmax. “Who does not want to live in freedom? That's everybody's dream — and it's a dream that should be fulfilled for all oppressed people throughout the globe.”

Justice Wanted Rosen Be Kept In Dark

DOJ Begged Judge to Keep Fox Reporter in Dark About Monitoring

The Justice Department begged a federal judge to not tell Fox News reporter James Rosen that it was tracking his telephone calls and emails in a probe regarding a national security leak.

U.S. Attorney Ron Machen argued in 2010 that the traditional 30-day notice period did not apply to Rosen as Justice secretly monitored his Gmail account, according to new exhibits unsealed this week and disclosed by The Hill.

“Where, as here, the government seeks such contents through a search warrant, no notice to the subscriber or customer of the e-mail account is statutorily required or necessary,” Machen wrote in a June 2010 motion. “Thus, this court's indication on the face of the warrant that delayed notice of 30 days to the customer and subscriber was permissible was unnecessary.”

Machen, through another request granted by the court, stopped Google from telling Rosen that Justice was spying on his e-mail account, the Hill reports.

The prosecutor had demanded to see all of Rosen’s emails — including deleted messages, emails in his trash folder and all attachments sent to and from him.

The original warrant in the Rosen case was signed personally by Attorney General Eric Holder, NBC News reported this week.

Meanwhile, Fox News President Roger Ailes on Thursday blasted Justice for targeting journalists as if they were criminals and said the government's seizure of reporters' emails and phone records would not stand "the test of law."

“The administration’s attempt to intimidate Fox News and its employees will not succeed and their excuses will stand neither the test of law, the test of decency, nor the test of time,” Ailes said. “We will not allow a climate of press intimidation, unseen since the McCarthy era, to frighten any of us away from the truth.”

President Barack Obama on Thursday asked Holder to review Justice’s guidelines on leak investigations and news organizations. Holder promised a report by July 12, the Hill reports.

Reports of the FBI's tracking of Rosen's movements, phone, and email conversations with a former State Department contractor — Stephen Jin-Woo Kim — followed the disclosure last week that phone records of editors and reporters at The Associated Press had been secretly seized by Justice in another probe of leaked government information.

But unlike the AP reporters, Rosen was named as a "co-conspirator" by FBI officials in the warrant signed by Holder.

Lerner Is Just The Start

FreedomWorks' Kibbe: IRS Move to Dump Lerner 'Clearly the Tip of the Iceberg'

FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe tells Newsmax that Thursday’s decision by the embattled IRS to replace Lois Lerner over the agency’s targeting scandal is “clearly the tip of the iceberg” along with other administrative casualties that have been offered up thus far by the Obama administration.

“It doesn’t go far enough and whenever you see government officials lawyering up and pleading the Fifth you know that the crisis and the scandal goes far deeper than what appears to be on the surface,” Kibbe said in an exclusive interview.

On Wednesday, Lerner invoked her Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination, refusing to testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which was investigating whether the division that Lerner oversaw targeted tea party and conservative groups for added scrutiny through the 2012 election and as far back as 2010.

“Clearly the IRS is in a state of crisis right now. But I don’t think this story is about any individual within the IRS and their bad behavior,” Kibbe explained. “I think the real scandal is a culture of intimidation that appears to be widespread and accepted practice within the IRS.”

Other conservative groups targeted by the IRS also told Newsmax that they too believe the scandal goes beyond Lerner.

“We need to continue the independent investigation — and I don’t believe that Mrs. Lerner is the only one responsible for it,” said Everett Wilkinson, a founder of the Tea Party Patriots.

Wilkinson, chairman of the National Liberty Federation, described Lerner’s suspension as “a first step.”

“We’re seeing that the White House knew and, perhaps, elements of the administration may have called for or promoted the idea of using the IRS as a political tool," he said. “We think this chain of abuse goes all the way up to the commander in chief.”

Lori Lowenthal Marcus, president of Z Street, a conservative Jewish organization that has a federal court hearing on July 2 in a lawsuit against the IRS for viewpoint discrimination, said Capitol Hill legislators might want to offer Lerner immunity in exchange for her testimony.

“It is certainly disappointing that Ms. Lerner is apparently not going to testify,” Marcus said. “There has to be other people in the IRS who knew what happened, when and why.”

Susan Martinek, president of the Coalition for Life of Iowa, a pro-life group based in Cedar Rapids agreed that “clearly, something was very wrong at the IRS."

Her organization’s tax-exempt status was held up when the group balked at attempts by the IRS to obtain a pledge that the group not picket a local Planned Parenthood office.

The Thomas More Society countered that it believed such a request from the agency to be illegal. Three months later, the coalition’s nonprofit status was granted.

"We found it very troubling that the head of this critical federal agency believed that telling the whole truth before Congress could subject her to criminal penalties,” said Martinek on Lerner's refusal to testify.

“She had her opportunity,” Martinek told Newsmax. “She chose not to tell the whole story.”

Ultimately, President Obama must be held accountable for the actions of his agency, according to Kibbe.

“I think the accountability has to start at the top. And it’s not really about who talked to who, or who know what when, but this whole notion that we would use the executive power of the federal government to choose winners and losers and intimidate people based on their political philosophy,” he asserted. “That’s rotten to the core. And I think we need to get at that fundamental problem that stems from too much government power and too much discretionary authority acceded to unelected bureaucrats.”

Kibbe, whose organization started a web page (irstarget.com) to collect the stories of groups and individuals that believe they were unfairly targeted by the IRS, said FreedomWorks has been “overwhelmed” by the response.

“It’s both stories from mom and pop tea party leaders who are trying to comply with federal law, but also a number of individuals who feel they were targeted individually by audits — and that’s a bigger challenge for us to vet their stories and sort through what’s legitimate and what may not be,” he said. “I really think that as this investigation goes on we’re going to discover a broad pattern but that’s going to take time.”

The damage has already been done with respect to the 2012 elections.

“It clearly made a difference. Would it have made a defining difference? We’ll never know, but the fact that this was broadly known within the IRS, and the Treasury Department, and even within the West Wing of the White House before the election.”

While Kibbe stopped short of accusing the Obama administration of attempting to cover-up alleged IRS abuses, he said “It looks like a cover-up because all of this conveniently comes out after the election.”

He believes that the IRS targeting of conservative groups had a “stifling effect” on potential donors.

“I think there was an unspoken, but clear understanding amongst our potential donors that they could potentially be targeted either by the IRS or the executive branch,” Kibbe added. “I don’t believe that as many people — either donors or activists — participated as would otherwise because they were afraid of retribution and that is the scandal here.”
Kibbe insisted that President Obama must “come clean” with the American people if he wants to restore confidence in his administration.

“But the evolving story coming out of the White House is leading to a fundamental lack of confidence that anyone’s in charge, that anyone is willing to take responsibility,” he charged. “Stop stonewalling and let congressional investigators get to the facts — and only then do we know what the real problem is. But right now there’s a lot of circular finger pointing. Everyone is trying to blame someone else for something that was clearly a widespread practice within the Obama administration.”

The Seizure of Reporter Records Expands

Let' forget about the freedoms we have and turn them all over the all-knowing, all-seeing, totally impartial White House. They will dole out what we need to know, when we need to know it. If we don't get  the information, we did not need it, right? Anyone who argues with the White House must be a terrorist and should be locked away in Gitmo. Citizens can be picked up on the street and held for years without charge or trial, to protect the rest of us. Citizens don't need guns, the Administration will protect you. This is the view of the White House, it appears.

Seizing reporter records, using the IRS as a political weapon, covering up mistakes are all tools in the White House toolkit. They use it every day. And every day there are more stories about how the Administration has abused us as their employers. It is starting to get very nauseating. Do you feel the same?

The Justice Department seized the telephone records of at least five Fox News reporters and several White House staffers in connection with the 2009 probe into a former State Department contractor who is accused of leaking classified information to Fox journalist James Rosen.

The disclosure came in a document filed in the case of the former contractor, Stephen Jin-Woo Kim, on October 13, 2011, The New Yorker reported today.

Kim is a former State Department contractor accused of violating the Espionage Act for allegedly leaking classified information to Rosen.

Ronald C. Machen Jr., the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia who is prosecuting the case, seized records associated with at least five telephone numbers associated with Fox, two numbers at the White House, and one that has the same area code and exchange as Rosen’s personal cellphone number.

The last four digits of that telephone number are redacted in the document, the New Yorker reports.

In all, Machen had seized records associated with more than 30 different phone numbers, according to the filing.

The last four digits of each telephone line targeted by the Obama Administration are redacted in the filing. Two of the numbers begin with area code 202 and the exchange 456, which, according to current and former Obama administration officials, are used exclusively by the White House.

The telephone number of the White House switchboard is (202) 456-1414.

At least five other numbers targeted by Justice include the area code 202 and the exchange 824.

The phone number for the Fox News Washington bureau, which is publicly available, is (202) 824-0001, the New Yorker reports.

Rosen’s work number at Fox begins with the same area code and exchange.

“Because that information is sealed, I can’t confirm the owner or subscriber for any of those records,” William Miller, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in D.C., told the New Yorker.

Asked if the phone numbers of any reporters had been targeted in the Kim investigation, Miller told the magazine that he could not comment.

The Washington Post reported on Monday that Justice seized telephone records and emails from Rosen personal account on Gmail in its inquiry of Kim.

In the search warrant for the data, Justice described Rosen as “an aider, and abettor, and/or co-conspirator” in violating the Espionage Act, noting that the crime was punishable by 10 years in prison.

Rosen was not indicted in the case, but the suggestion in a government document that a reporter could be guilty of espionage for engaging in routine reporting is unprecedented — the New Yorker reports — and has alarmed many journalists and civil libertarians.

The case also has been cited in Justice’s recent secret seizure of two months of telephone records of reporters and editors at The Associated Press.

Attorney to Malzberg: Benghazi Whistleblower Reassigned, Demoted

Benghazi whistleblower Greg Hicks has been demoted to a desk job for speaking out on the Sept. 11, 2012, attacks at the U.S. post in Libya that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans, his attorney said on Friday.

"He was offered a choice: no job or a job that doesn't mean anything," attorney Victoria Toensing told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV. "It's a desk job."

Story continues below video.

Hicks, the former deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Libya, testified on Wednesday before the House Oversight Committee about what happened that fateful night.

He challenged the State Department’s initial claims that the attacks were caused by a spontaneous reaction to an anti-Islamic video posted on YouTube.

Hicks, who was Stevens' deputy, has since been reassigned to a desk job. And he could have that or no job at all, Toensing told Malzberg.

"It's like telling a starving man, 'Hey, you get this choice: You can either have no food or you get rotten steak. What would you like?'" the former federal prosecutor said. "Would you like a rotten piece of beef or no food at all?"

Toensing accused the Obama White House of trying to "destroy the messenger," and that includes using various governmental departments and media outlets.

"Administration officials say he stalked the desk job he described as a demotion," she said. "It's just little old me out here — and they've got taxpayers' money, the whole press office, and the whole general counsel's office trying to do him in. It's outrageous."
