Free Condoms For 12-19 Year Olds

Have a 12 year old that needs a condom? Don't want to take the time to explain the facts of life to your child?  Don't fret, there is a website that will help you out.  It is http://www.teensource.org/ts/   And if your teen does not want you to know, she/he can get the condoms for free and they come in a plain brown envelope!

And if you need to go further go to the Planned Parenthood site for teens http://www.plannedparenthood.org/info-for-teens/  It is better than many porn sites!

The first site is from California and the second is a national site. Regardless, there is information out there for your child and many will say that is great. Having information is always good, however, we should stop at that point.

When we are encouraging our teens to have sex via free condoms, is that the right message? Should we be encouraging them to obtain condoms "because they are doing it anyway?" Or should we be teaching restraint?  We believe the latter is the right message.

Part of growing up is learning to restrain yourself, delaying gratification, and learning to appreciate the value of relationships. In the television show Two and a Half Men, Charlie (Charlie Sheen) never learned to have a relationship as it was one "conquest" after another.  Many viewers laughed along with his ways and some might have wanted to be like him.  But he was not happy, had nothing to show for his life and like the real Charlie Sheen was facing all sorts of psychological issues.  All meaningless.

Do we want our children to become Charlie or Charlie Sheen?  I doubt it but with the sexualization of our society, it is very hard. Sex is a basic drive, it must be tamed and controlled. Providing information is one thing but providing at no cost, condoms and other services is wrong.

The two sites we have shown are only examples of our sex crazy nation. Will we ever see a return to normalacy? Rome only did after it fell. Will that also occur here? Please give us your opinion.

  1. "Teen pregnancies have declined dramatically in the United States since their peak in the early 1990s, as have the births and abortions that result; in 2008, teen pregnancies reached their lowest level in nearly 40 years…In 2008, the teen pregnancy rate was 67.8 pregnancies per 1,000 women aged 15–19, which means that about 7% of U.S. teens became pregnant that year. This rate represents a 42% decline from the peak in 1990 (116.9 per 1,000). Similarly, the birthrate declined 35% between 1991 and 2008, from 61.8 to 40.2 births per 1,000 teens; the abortion rate declined 59% from its 1988 peak of 43.5 abortions per 1,000 teens to its 2008 level of 17.8 per 1,000.
A large body of research has shown that the long-term decline in teen pregnancy, birth and abortion rates was driven primarily by improved use of contraception among teens. And while there was also a decrease during the 1990s in the overall proportion of females aged 15–19 who were sexually experienced, there has been almost no change in the proportion in recent years. Continuing decreases in teen pregnancy more recently may be driven by increased use of the most effective contraceptive methods as well as dual method use. In sum, teens appear to be making the decision to be more effective contraceptive users, and their actions are paying off in lower pregnancy, birth and abortion rates."

Okay, better that the girl doesn't have sex in the first place. But protected sex is better than unprotected sex in order to avoid pregnancies, abortions, and sexually transmitted diseases. So, if she is not going to listen to our advice, then she should at least insist that the boy get the condoms first. It is more likely to happen if the teens have free and convenient access to the condoms.
