When it comes to political campaigns, there are not many things that are off limits. However, the McCain advisers warned Sarah Palin not to talk about Obama's lack of experience, his "friends" or anything personal. Those are a lot of topics which were verboten. No wonder they lost.
It also set up an assumption that Obama could not be questioned on anything personal and something that still exists today. Any discussion of Reverend Wright or Bill Ayers are off limits. Anyone who questions Obama's birth certificate is immediately called a "birther." Any complaints of the spending by the Obama family is "not our business because every President takes vacations." In other words, we cannot comment on anything that the President is doing.
It all started with the McCain campaign and now it is the way we get our news. No bad news about Obama or his family. Small mistakes by the 2008 campaign have morphed into a standard that is very un-American.
We need to know what our President is doing, who his friends are, what he thinks and why. Otherwise, we get someone who will not respond to questions, who demands that no one has the right to know and does what he/she wants in contravention to our laws. Obama has won a free pass thanks to the McCain campaign.

Sarah Palin: I Was 'Banned' From Talking About Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers During 2008 Campaign

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) said she was "banned" from certain talking points while running alongside Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on the Republican ticket in the 2008 election.
Palin criticized the media for "ingratiating themselves with [Obama] and vice versa" and trying to "destroy these whistleblowers" who were talking about controversial pastor Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers, former University of Illinois professor and co-founder of the violent anti-war group Weather Underground.
"Though I was during the campaign running for VP, I was banned from talking about Jeremiah Wright and Obama's friend, Bill Ayers, the character that he befriended and kicked off his political campaign in the guy's living room," Palin said.
Palin blamed "those elitists, those who are the brainiacs in the GOP machine running John McCain's campaign at the time" for saying "the media would eat us alive" if the vice presidential candidate touched on those issues.
"What it got us was a list of these scandals," Palin said about the "self-censoring" done by the McCain campaign. "This is kind of a redneck version of one of those elitist tactics of Karl Rove, how he uses his white board. This a redneck version of a whiteboard. And on this list, the scandals that are destroying America."

ReplyDeleteAnswer: Like "wets" and "drys" during Prohibition, the term "birther" is merely a short-hand expression for "people who do not believe that Obama was born in Hawaii (as in fact his birth certificate shows) or that believe that two citizen parents are required in order to be a Natural Born Citizen, or both"---which is a hard thing to say repeatedly. And there is evidence, since there was to have been a big meeting of "people who do not believe that Obama was born in Hawaii (as in fact his birth certificate shows) or that believe that two citizen parents are required in order to be a Natural Born Citizen, or both" and it was to have been called "The BIrther Summit" (the planned meeting was cancelled mainly because they couldn't get enough people to attend)---that birthers call themselves birthers.
In any case, the birther sites have not even shown their readers that Obama's mother had a passport in 1961---and very very few 18-year-olds did in those days.
Nor have they told their readers how very very few women traveled abroad in the last two months of pregnancy in 1961 because of the risk of stillbirths. And yet birther sites want people to believe that Obama's Hawaii birth certificate is forged and that the officials of BOTH parties in Hawaii (and the Index Data and the birth notices sent to the papers by the DOH of Hawaii in 1961) are all lying.
Anyone leaving the US in 1961 had to have a passport especially if they went to Indonesia, however the records of Obama's mother are missing. No one knows for sure, however, his Hawaii birth certificate has been proven to be a fraud by many experts. Additionally, why hasn't Obama allowed his college records from the Universities he attend to be released? There must be something that is damning!
