Anytime we hear that the government is taking an action, we no longer believe what is said by those in charge, rather we look at what the other reasons might be. The reason behind the statement. So it goes with the current "threat" to embassies and consulates around the world.
Those "smart people" in charge say there is a threat to American embassies from Yemen. It could be. It could also be a "false flag" intended to make the American people think that the NSA and other agency monitoring of us is justified.
Both are threats to our freedoms. Should our embassies be attacked, it would be terrible. Without question we support our citizens who do their duty in foreign lands representing our country. If Al Queda or other radical group should attack, our diplomats would become the innocent victims in a world wide game of chicken. Who can kill the most of the other side. We use drones, they use other means.
On the other, granted cynical, side of us --should this be a PR move by the Administration to drown out the attacks on the NSA monitoring of American's keystrokes, phone calls and emails, we would be incensed. Creating a false fear in an effort to destroy our freedoms is the lowest that any group of leaders could ever descend.
What sort of threat do we face? We believe that Al Queda has NOT been destroyed but has metastasized into a multi-faceted leaderless group bent on the destruction of the US and Israel. Our embassies are our representative around the world therefore would be good targets. However, embassies would be a hardened target taking more personnel and equipment than these groups could command. Therefore, if there is an attack, we doubt it will be against these facilities.
Rather, we expect the attacks, if there are any, will be against softer targets. It takes less effort to make significant impact.
On the other hand, the embassy attack story might be a false flag by Al Queda to make our leaders over-react and misapply assets. There might not even have been an attack of any nature planned but with this false flag, Al Queda will be able to brag that they have the US on the run!
Twelve years ago we believed what our government said, however, our trust has been shaken by the multiple attacks on our freedom that have occurred since 9/11 starting with the passing of the Patriot Act which was neither patriotic or honest. We doubt that we are the only ones who feel this way.
Once the people no longer believe the government, it loses it moral leadership and everything that is said is parsed and questioned. We are at that point now. Can the trust be reclaimed? History says no.
So whether this is a false flag or a real threat, we will not know until the time passes. However, the government must realize that to regain their moral leadership, they must become brutally honest with the American public. No more misleading stories, no Tonkin Gulf escapades and telling the truth about Benghazi, Fast and Furious, The IRS scandals and the like. Will they do that, never in a million years!
The US has lost its support of the people and their only way to maintain control is more and more repressive actions resulting in less and less freedom. We are seeing a country in decline and it is very sad.

Embassies around the world Sunday amid security concerns
FoxNews.com
The United States will temporarily shut down its embassies and consulates around the world Sunday -- including those in Iraq, Afghanistan and Egypt -- as a precautionary measure over terror-related concerns, State Department officials said.
State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf did not say how long the international installations would stay closed -- only that the decision was taken “out of an abundance of caution and care for our employees and others who may be visiting.” Officials would not describe the nature of the threat.
Sunday is a normal workday in many Arab and Middle Eastern countries, meaning that is where the closures will have an impact. Embassies in Europe and Latin America would be shuttered that day anyway.
“We have instructed all U.S. embassies and consulates that would have normally been open on Sunday to suspend operations, specifically on August 4,” a senior State Department official said Thursday night. “It is possible we may have additional days of closing as well.”
Other U.S. officials said the threat was specifically in the Muslim world.
The issue of security abroad has been prominent since the attack on the U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya, and a string of demonstrations on other U.S. embassies in the Middle East and North Africa.
On Thursday, measures to beef up security at U.S. embassies were passed out of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The bill is in response to the Sept. 11, 2012 attack on the diplomatic post in Benghazi, Libya, where Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed.
The Senate bill creates a training center for diplomatic security personnel.
Separately, the House Foreign Affairs Committee authorized full security funding for diplomatic missions -- despite recommending a nine percent cut overall for State Department operations.
The House and Senate have already approved spending bills that cover embassy security. But their budgets differ markedly in other areas.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
