Arab Nations Join Israel Over Concerns of “Bad Deal” with Iran

It seems that Israel is no longer the only Middle Eastern country concerned about the direction of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the P5+1.
Arab nations are expressing their concerns to US officials in private talks over emerging details of the agreement, the Wall Street Journal reported.
While Arab officials are being careful not to appear to be siding with Israel, their worries over the possibility of a nuclear Iran are very similar to those of Jerusalem. According to the report, attitudes toward current state of talks are extremely pessimistic.
Leaders of Sunni Arab states, including Qatar, Egypt, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, fear that a bad deal with the Islamic Republic, including the removal of sanctions, would allow Iran to become a nuclear threshold state.
Arab officials believe that any opening to allow Iran to possess nuclear technology and materials would lead to an arms race in the region.
“At this stage, we prefer total collapse of the diplomatic process to a bad deal,” an unnamed Arab official told the paper.
The report comes amid news that US President Barack Obama will meet with the leader of Qatar, Emir Sheikh Temim bin Hamad Al Thani, to discuss concerns of stability in the Middle East.
The president has refused to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu when he visits Washington in early March. Vice President Joe Biden and US Secretary of State John Kerry have also refused to meet with Netanyahu.
The prime minister is to address a joint session of Congress against the bad deal being formed between Western negotiators and Iran.
Netanyahu, in response to a UN report released Friday over Iran’s evasiveness over its nuclear program, said that the international community needs to further proof to understand the true intentions of Iran.
“The IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) report again demonstrates that Iran refuses to come clean to the international community about its preparations for producing nuclear weapons,” Netanyahu said.

The prime minister slammed world powers for “wooing Iran for its agreement” in a deal what would allow the county to continue its uranium enrichment.
The IAEA report stated that Tehran is being evasive and ambiguous with the nuclear watchdog agency and has prevented the organization from thoroughly investigating the country’s nuclear program.
“The world powers should not be courting Iran in order to have it accept a deal that would leave it with the possibility of producing nuclear weapons, while (Tehran) refuses to divulge the details on its nuclear weapons program,” Netanyahu stated.
The IAEA report came a day after the Obama administration publicly confirmed that it was actively withholding sensitive information from Israel over nuclear talks out of fear that Israeli officials may try to scuttle negotiations.
“We know that Tehran knows the details of the talks. Now I tell you that Israel also knows the details of the proposed agreement,” Netanyahu said. “I think this is a bad agreement that is dangerous for the state of Israel, and not only for it.”
