After a group of Republicans nearly scuttled the Obama trade effort last week by voting against a procedural rule dictating the debate terms for the trade bill, House leadership is pushing back.

National Journal reports that House leadership has removed three of the dissenting members from the GOP whip team.

 have been removed from the whip team after they sided with GOP rebels to vote against a rule governing debate on a trade bill, according to sources close to the team.

The repercussions come as House Republicans prepare for another procedural vote to bring back Trade Adjustment Assistance — a key portion of the Obama trade effort to pass Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), which would grant the president fast-track authority to negotiate trade deals — as late as July 30.

 had indicated in the past that he would not condone members opposing the rule and that Lummis was aware of those boundaries.

“Cynthia knew going into the rule vote last week that being a member of the Whip Team has certain parameters,” Lummis spokesman, Joe Spiering, told National Journal. “She understands his decision and departs the Whip organization with nothing but the utmost respect for Mr. Scalise and his entire organization.”

“I’m not very happy about it,” Boehner told reporters following a closed door caucus meeting. And I made it pretty clear to the members today I was not very happy. We’re a team and we’ve worked hard to get the majority, we’ve worked hard to stay in the majority and I expect our team to act like a team. And I, frankly, made it pretty clear I wasn’t very happy.”

National Journal notes that there remain rule dissenters that hold positions of leadership who could be affected as well including Reps.

Republicans Need A New Speaker Of The House. Boehner MUST GO!

Majority of Republicans view Boehner as ineffective

A new poll by Democratic pollster Patrick Caddell shows that Republican Speaker John Boehner (Ohio) is no favorite of Republican voters.

After four years of watching and rooting for Boehner to succeed in fighting to limit the size and scope of government, fully 60 percent of Republicans surveyed want someone new to be Speaker.

To make matters worse for Boehner, 64 percent viewed him as being "ineffective in opposing Obama's agenda." A resounding repudiation to the person most associated nationally with leading Republicans during the Obama presidency.

What is almost as amazing is that the Speaker is barely right-side up on the favorable/unfavorable test among Republican voters, scoring a meager 43 percent to 34 percent edge among those who should be his staunchest supporters.

The poll has been released in advance of the upcoming House session, with increased movement amongst members to reconsider their decision to support Boehner on the floor of the House.

Discontent among Republican House members over the handling of a variety of issues during the lame-duck session, most notably the decision to fully fund President Obama's top three priorities — ObamaCare, the Environmental Protection Agency and his executive amnesty — have created a rebellion within his own conference.

Rep. Jim Bridenstine (R-Okla.), who previously pledged to vote for Boehner, changed course in a press announcement, writing that "The CR/omnibus legislation sufficiently undermines the checks and balances enshrined in the Constitution that it warrants my pending vote against the [S]peaker. John Boehner went too far when he teamed with Obama to advance this legislation. He relinquished the power of the purse, and with it he lost my vote."

It only takes 29 Republicans to vote for a Republican other than Boehner for Speaker on the floor of the House to throw the position open to another Republican alternative. Indications from within the conference are that there are many more than that who would be willing to vote against the Speaker, if they believed the effort would succeed.

The key will be whether what was expected to be a relatively calm House Republican Conference meeting on Monday evening turns into a donnybrook over the Speaker election. If this occurs, all bets are off and Tuesday gets interesting.

In baseball terms, when the dust settles, the question of whether House Republicans decide to rehire a manager who is viewed by their fanbase as somewhat affable and well-meaning, but completely ineffective in leading their team to victory, will be answered.

Republicans around the country clearly don't want another two years of a Boehner speakership. Will their elected representatives agree?

Following the Department of Agriculture's May 7 solicitation for submachine guns with 30-round magazine clips, Rep. Jim Bridenstine is demanding an explanation.

"The fear of my constituents is that the USDA is expanding outside of its intended mission," the Oklahoma Republican wrote the agency on Wednesday.

According to AmmoLand Shooting Sports News, the timing of the USDA request for the weaponry is suspect, coming "just one month after the [Cliven] Bundy embarrassment."

"It seems that the USDA, which oversees America’s vast tracks of forested land, may be preparing itself in the event some cowboys want their heads of cattle to munch government-owned grass," the website stated.

Bundy gained national attention in April during an armed standoff in Nevada over cattle grazing rights.

The USDA's solicitation was first reported by Breitbart.

But the farming agency told Politico there are more than 100 agents employed by the law enforcement division of the department’s Office of the Inspector General who carry such weapons, explaining those agents are involved in the investigation of criminal activities, including fraud, theft of government property, bribery, extortion, smuggling, and assaults on employees.

Bob Owens, the editor of BearingArms.com, wrote the response was predictable.

"They will no doubt attempt to justify their purchase of military hardware by explaining that they conduct criminal investigations and may need to do armed raids,"  he wrote, adding:

"This is part of a trend to arm every branch of federal government, whether the individual agency has a legitimate need for a paramilitary force or not."

AmmoLand noted the Government Accountability Office in February downplayed concerns about big ammunition purchases by the Department of Homeland Security.
