Since losing the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton has used myriad excuses to

 explain her defeat. Perhaps none more so than the FBI's decision to reopen 

the probe into her misuse of sensitive emails after new messages were 

discovered on the laptop of confidante Huma Abedin's pervert ex-husband, 

Anthony Weiner.

Unfortunately for Hillary and the FBI, that laptop and those emails have 

returned to the proverbial spotlight.

A soon-to-be-released report from the Inspector General's office is expected 

to excoriate federal agents for their overall apathy.

Adam Shaw, of Fox News, explains:

The finding underscores how the laptop continues to play a recurring part

in the Clinton case saga, haunting everyone from the Democratic nominee

to the FBI officials who examined it.

This, as Abedin herself hits the social circuit. She was seen in recent weeks

living it up at glitzy events including a Metropolitan Museum of Art gala and

a bash at the home of Vogue boss Anna Wintour. Meanwhile, she's divorcing

her husband, ex-Rep. Anthony Weiner, who is serving a 21-month prison

sentence for sending lewd photos to a teenager.

It was the probe into those lewd messages that led agents to uncover the

laptop in the fall of 2016, discovering Clinton emails that Abedin had

forwarded her husband.

Then-FBI Director James Comey notified Congress in late October that

he was revisiting the probe less than two weeks before the election, having

announced in July that he would not recommend charges over Clinton’s use

of a private email server when she served as secretary of state.

Powerful FBI officials knew about those emails in early September 2016, but 

the bureau did not obtain a warrant to review them for another six weeks.

Democrats Wanted Comey Fired — Until Tuesday

(Lifezette) Few Democrats suffered such severe political whiplash over the firing of FBI Director James Comey as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.).

Over the course of just a few months, Schumer has shifted wildly on the FBI director. The Democratic leader heaped praise on Comey for decisions that benefitted Democrats and tried to damn Comey for decisions that hurt Democrats. On Tuesday, Schumer suggested the decision to fire Comey was indicative of a “cover-up.”

“My confidence in the FBI director’s ability to lead this agency has been shaken.”

Schumer held a press conference on Tuesday after President Donald Trump fired Comey, blasting the decision and telling reporters he earlier told Trump that he was making a mistake in firing Comey.

But a reporter immediately brought up a different opinion Schumer had of Comey last November.

“Sen. Schumer, you told me last year before the election that you lost confidence in Jim Comey because of how he handled the email scandal,” one reporter said. “Do you think that the president’s explanation … has credibility?”

Schumer became a bit defensive.

“I never called on the president to fire Director Comey,” said Schumer.

Schumer then said Trump should have fired Comey earlier in his young presidency if he had some of the same concerns as Democrats.

It was a clever ploy. But it cannot hide the fact that Democrats have hated Comey for months. Many blame Comey for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s losing the election. Comey famously released a letter to Congress just before the Nov. 8 election indicating that he was reopening an investigation into how Clinton handled classified emails

Comey, being Comey, closed the new investigation in record time, ending the investigation two days before Election Day and enraging Republicans by publicly declaring he still would not recommend charges against Clinton.

Schumer indicated Comey’s handling of the matter was a deal-breaker.

“I do not have confidence in him any longer,” Schumer said of Comey on Nov. 2.

Schumer called Comey’s letter to Congress “appalling.”

Schumer is far from the only Democrat who has questioned Comey’s judgement or called for his firing.

“Maybe he’s not in the right job,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told CNN on Nov. 2.

Clinton adviser James Carville went so far as to bizarrely suggest Comey, House Republicans, and the KGB (disbanded during the collapse of the Soviet Union) were in cahoots to elect Trump, during a Oct. 31 interview on MSNBC.

A handful of Democratic lawmakers have outright called for the FBI director to resign or be fired.

“This is not fake news. Intelligence officials are hiding connections to the Russian government. There is no question,” then-Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said in a Dec. 10 interview on MSNBC. “Comey knew and deliberately kept this info a secret,” he said.

The MSNBC host asked Reid if Comey should resign. “Of course, yes,” Reid replied.

Comey’s decision to publicly reopen the Clinton investigation drove Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) to also demand the FBI director resign.

“I called on FBI Director James Comey to resign his position after his recent communication with members of Congress regarding the bureau’s review of emails potentially related to Hillary Clinton’s personal email server,” Cohen wrote in a Nov. 3 op-ed published in The Hill.

So great was Democratic animus towards Comey that several lawmakers walked out on the FBI director during a closed-door briefing on Russian hacking in the 2016 election, open to all members of the House, according to CBS News.

Two of those Democratic lawmakers blasted Comey to reporters outside the meeting.

“The FBI director has no credibility,” said Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), according to CBS.

“My confidence in the FBI director’s ability to lead this agency has been shaken,” said Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.).

Hillary herself still blames Comey for losing the election, despite the fact she didn’t campaign in Wisconsin and Michigan, had poor polling numbers as far back as the summer, and couldn’t inspire younger and Hispanic voters to come out for her in strong numbers — among other faults.

“If the election had been on October 27, I would be your president,” she told a women’s conference moderated by CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on May 2. “It wasn’t a perfect campaign, but I was on the way to winning until a combination of Comey’s letter and Russian WikiLeaks. The reason why I believe we lost were the intervening events in the last 10 days.”

When Trump took action to remove him from his position Tuesday, many of the same Democrats, including Schumer, who had blasted Comey or demanded he resign made a swift about-face to criticize Trump.

“Donald Trump should follow his FBI Director out the door #nocredibility,” tweeted Rep. Maxine Waters.

“Heard it here first! Jan.13 on @hardball w/@HardballChris, I said if #Comey was fired, it would be like #SaturdayNightMassacre. Nixonian!” tweeted Rep. Steve Cohen, who had authored the op-ed calling for Comey’s ouster on Nov. 3.

“If we don’t get a special prosecutor, every American will rightfully suspect that the decision to fire #Comey was part of a cover-up,” tweeted Schumer.

Is Depression Of The Pilot The Reason For The Germanwings Crash?

All of the attention on the co-pilot of the Germanwings plane is confusing for us. First of all, most crashes take months to come up with a reason for the accident, an answer in one week is very suspect. Secondly, "finding" torn up medical notes, seems a bit "lucky."  Thirdly, there has been no official mention of terrorism. And lastly, along with the terrorist connection, the National Security Council spokeswoman stated on the day of the accident that there was no proof that it was terrorism related yet Middle East websites said different.

We know there is a lot of information that is not known at this time  which will become evident as the investigation continues. However, when the Administration issues a statement on terrorism before any of the bodies or black  boxes are recovered, seems a bit irresponsible. Or is it making a preemptive  strike against those who would assume that is the case? Or does the Administration know something that they are not telling us?

From the very beginning of this tragedy there are a number of issues that usually does not occur in any aircraft accident. Naming the captain but not the co-pilot, the Administration's "no terrorism" here statement, the immediate descent on the co-pilot's home, and the finding of "medical notes" in his trash. Heck, in one week we know more about this pilot's love life than we do for President Obama's!  There is something wrong with this whole picture.

We hope there is not a cover-up going on here, but suspect there is.

Depressed Pilots: Ticking Time Bombs?

The tragic crash of a jetliner in the French Alps has spotlighted the potential problem of airline pilot depression.

German pilot Andreas Lubitz intentionally crashed a Germanwings plane, killing all 150 aboard after apparently being treated for mental illness, authorities say.

Depression is one of the most common mental illnesses, with studies showing that about 9 percent of American adults suffer from the condition, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Since there are 104,000 commercial and airline pilots in the U.S., that would mean there could potentially be some 9,200 pilots with depression, assuming they suffer the illness at the same rate as other American adults.

With such statistics, it is very likely there are pilots flying today who aredealing with depression, a factor that could put passengers at risk, according to Angelos Halaris, M.D., a Loyola University Medical Center psychiatrist who specializes indepression treatment.

Although pilots are routinely screened for physical and mental problems, Lubitz apparently successfully hid his condition from his employer, according to reports.

“People who are depressed can hide it successfully,” said Dr. Halaris, who heads Loyola’s psychiatry department. “They can fake a normal mood, or tear up a letter saying they are not fit for duty, especially if they are so driven or take it as a personal insult or embarrassment.”

According to crash investigators, the pilot had taken a break from flight training in 2009 for depression and anxiety treatment, which should have been a red flag, said Dr. Halaris.

Such lax oversight points to problems not only in other countries, but in the U.S. as well, Dr. Halaris told Newsmax Health.

“One area in we have lagged is our ability to do a good job assessing individuals in terms of putting them in charge of a plane, train, or even surgeons -- any job in which they have control of other people’s lives. We need to get serious about it.”

Dr. Halaris has treated thousands of people with depression over the years, and said he makes such a recommendation with reluctance. But in the case of pilots, this is justified, he believes.

“If the person fails, we are left with a disaster,” he said.

Such a prohibition should apply even to those people successfully controlling their depression with medication, said Dr. Halaris.

“People on medication can stop taking medication, and unfortunately, with depression this happens all the time. If people stop taking it, they can go into a massive relapse,” he said.

“We don’t know if this is what happened in the case of the German pilot, but if it was, it took the lives of 150 people.”

Dr. Halaris said he was taking his stance to prohibit depression patients from being pilots reluctantly because, “I am the last person to support any discrimination with people with a psychiatric disorder.”

The smoking gun:

 Previously unreleased internal Obama administration emails show thata coordinated effort was made in the days following the Benghazi terror attacks to portray the incident as “rooted in [an] Internet video, and not [in] a broader failure or policy.” Emails sent by senior White House adviser Ben Rhodes to other top administration officials reveal an effort to insulate President Barack Obama from the attacks that killed four Americans. Rhodes sent this email to top White House officials such as David Plouffe and Jay Carney just a day before National Security Adviser Susan Rice made her infamous Sunday news show appearances to discuss the attack. The “goal,” according to these emails, was “to underscore that these protests are rooted in an Internet video, and not a broader failure or policy.” Rice came under fierce criticism following her appearances on television after she adhered to these talking points and blamed the attack on a little-watched Internet video. The newly released internal White House e-mails show that Rice’s orders came from top Obama administration communications officials.

 Also contained in the 41 pages of documents obtained by Judicial Watch is a Sep. 12, 2012 email from Payton Knopf, the former deputy spokesman at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations. In this communication, Knopf informs Rice that senior officials had already dubbed the Benghazi attack as “complex” and planned in advance. Despite this information, Rice still insisted that attacks were “spontaneous.”

Let's unpack this new information. First, two political process points: (1) As we've recently seen with the IRS scandal, the Benghazi outrage continues to produce previously unseen evidence -- destroying Democrats' disgraceful "phony scandals" talking point. The White House began aggressively dismissing both stories last year. (2) Ed Morrissey reminds us that the White House claimed to have released "all" of its emails on Benghazi nearly a year ago. Gabe Malor asks the right question: Why are we just seeing these ones now? Now, on substance, the first email embedded above reveals a White House in intense spin mode after a preventable terrorist attack that claimed the lives of four Americans, including a sitting Ambassador. We knew that Hillary Clinton's State Department and the CIA were involved in the administration's historical revisionism surrounding this attack. We now know for certain that top White House officials were in the loop, too. Ben Rhodes outlines four bullet points in his memorandum, the first three of which are misleading and/or false:

 (a) The United States was not doing everything in its power to protect its people and facilities abroad. Not in Benghazi, and not elsewhere.

(b) The 9/11 attacks were not rooted in an "internet video." The clip he's referencing made something of a splash in the Middle East, but the State Department's second in command on the ground in Libya called it a "non event" vis-a-vis the Benghazi raid. The US government, including Sec. Clinton and CIA Director Petraeus, knew the attack was a coordinated terrorist action almost immediately.

(c) The administration has not been "resolute" in bringing the perpetrators to justice. More than a year-and-a-half has passed since the lethal event. Zero people have been held responsible, neither inWashington nor Northern Africa.

The memo also makes clear the White House was determined to deflect any criticism involving a "failure of [administration] policy." What sort of failure? Take your pick. How about fueling a war in Libya with no apparent strategy to handle the resulting power vacuum? Or rejecting repeated requests for an enhanced security presence in a city from which much of the West had withdrawn, due to growing jihadi dominance? Or renewing a lease on our compound with a waiver for substandard security after it had faced several attempted attacks? Perhaps it was the lack of preparation for the contingency of a terrorist attack on the anniversary of 9/11, which resulted in hours of paralysis while American lives hung in the balance. Rhodes and company wanted to insulate the president from those glaring policy failures, so they doctored up some deceptive talking points. As for the Susan Rice email, her staff obviously understood the true nature of the attack, which she would later tell the American people was "spontaneous." It wasn't. It was a deliberate, orchestrated, al Qaeda-linked act of terrorism. It's always seemed inconceivable that Rice wouldn't have been privy to those facts prior to her public statements. The newly-disclosed emails appear to confirm those suspicions. There can now be no remaining doubt: The administration's public response to the Benghazi attack was tainted by political considerations and deprived the American people of the truth.Be

CBS News’ Sharyl Attkisson, one of the only mainstream media reporters who hasrelentlessly pursued the Administration of President Barack Obama for the truth behind its handling of the Benghazi, Libya, embassy attack, was spied on via her own computer before and during the period when the scandal (which is still a scandal) was at its height.

CBS News confirmed Friday that Attkisson’s computer was hacked, by “an unauthorized, external, unknown party on multiple occasions in late 2012.” The Benghazi attack, which claimed the life of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans, occurred on Sept. 11.

Attkisson was already on the government’s radar for her dogged coverage of the Fast and Furious scandal, and has since found herself fighting an uphill battle to get the Obama Administration to respond to her questions, even as other reporters’ access to the White House remains unchanged. She told POLITICO last month that she already knew that someone was doing a sophisticated hack on her computers as early as February 2011, butCBS News didn’t confirm that assertion until revealing the results of a forensic investigation by an independent cybersecurity firm on Friday.

Neither Attkisson nor CBS News has yet put forward any speculation about what persons or agencies might be behind the spying. But the investigation found the third-party surveillance to be sophisticated:

Evidence suggests this party performed all access remotely using Attkisson’s accounts. While no malicious code was found, forensic analysis revealed an intruder had executed commands that appeared to involve search and exfiltration of data. This party also used sophisticated methods to remove all possible indications of unauthorized activity, and alter system times to cause further confusion. CBS News is taking steps to identify the responsible party and their method of access.

In its story, CBS News also mentioned last month’s scandal involving seizure of an ABC Newsreporter’s emails and phone records by the U.S. Department of Justice — and then said this:

To be clear, the federal government has not been accused in the intrusion of Attkisson’s computer; CBS News is continuing to work to identify the responsible party.
