Dick Morris: Trump Uprising Targets DC, Not Mexico

Donald Trump has shaken up the GOP presidential race because voters don't see him as a phony politician, political analyst Dick Morris tells Newsmax TV.

Republican voters are angry after seeing no conservative change in government after winning the elections of 2000, 2004, 2010 and 2014, Morris told Berliner.
"What do we have to show for it?" Morris said. Supreme Court Chief Justice John "Roberts who votes for Obamacare, the Republicans who give the president more power to conclude treaties."
The GOP gained control of the Senate, yet has given President Barack Obama power to make a treaty with Iran with only a one-third vote of the Senate instead of the traditional two-thirds, Morris said.
"People are saying if we win, we want at least to win something," he said. "With Trump, what you see is what you get."
Trump has forced the other GOP candidates to talk about illegal immigration, Morris said, but that influence has extended to other issues as well.
Ross Perot ran as an independent in 1992 talking about balancing the federal budget, Morris noted. Perot lost, getting only 19 percent of the vote, but four years later the budget was balanced.
"A candidate like Trump really can transform the political dialogue, and that's definitely what he's doing," Morris said.
Though Trump may be a longshot to actually become president, it isn't impossible, Morris said.
He parallels with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, running in the Democratic primaries, he said.
Trump and Sanders wouldn't agree on anything, Morris said, but they're both doing very well in their respective primaries because "people are fed up with the standard Boehner-McConnell-Reid-Pelosi politician who says one thing and then sells it out even as they're saying it."
Voters want somebody who has an opinion and follows through, whether it's the left with Sanders or the right with Trump, he said. "They're both striking a really important nerve, and it's called authenticity."
The least authentic candidate in the Republican field is former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Morris said.
"When I look at the rise of Hilary Clinton and before that the rise of Bill Clinton, I realize that it is the Bush family that has done more to facilitate that than anybody else in the country," he said.
