Cop Buys Lemonade From Little Girl’s Stand, Comes Back the Next Day But NOT to Buy More
A local police officer out on patrol decided to stop at a lemonade stand run by a little girl. He spoke to her for a minute and then decided to give her some advice. The next day the officer returned … but not to buy a cup of her homemade lemonade.
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy Zach Ropos was patrolling in Painesville, Ohio, when he noticed the little girl’s lemonade stand. Talking to her, he discovered her name was Gabrielle and that she was trying to raise money.
“I talked to the little girl, gave her a speech about how courageous and admirable I think her efforts were to save up her money,” Ropos said. “I asked her how much she saved up, and she said she only had a few dollars.”
The little girl then explained that she had actually raised more but her mother had run out of gas so Gabrielle gave her mother enough to fill up her tank, leaving her with only the few dollars that she currently had. This hit Ropos pretty hard and he admired her benevolence at such a young age.
“When she told me she gave the money to her mom … that’s when I almost started crying because of how great of a kid she really was,” Ropos reportedly stated.
He then asked Gabrielle what she hoped to do with the funds that she raised from her lemonade stand and he was surprised to learn that all Gabrielle wanted was to buy an iPad.
Ropos, 22, remembered that he had an extra one at his home. However, when he checked it out that evening, he found that it was no longer functioning.
“I went home that night, fired up the iPad, but it just wasn’t updated anymore … nothing really worked on it,” Ropos remarked.
But Ropos didn’t stop there. He went to a couple of stores to ask if they would be willing to split the cost of a new iPad for Gabrielle and after he found one that would, he returned to the lemonade stand.
Ropes presented Gabrielle with the new tablet and upon seeing her reaction he couldn’t help but feel that she made more of an impact on him than he did her.
“She just wouldn’t stop hugging me,” Ropos stated. “Seeing her face is how I remember Christmas when I was five years old. She couldn’t stop smiling. Her smile was worth a million dollars.”
Ropos is a relatively new officer, having only worked with the department for eight months, but he definitely has helped to reaffirm the reputation of law enforcement officers by his good deed.
His boss was very proud, but not surprised upon hearing the story (H/T Mad World News).
“He’s always liked to do stuff for people, and now it’s part of his job,” said Lake County Sheriff Dan Dunlap. “He’s a really good guy. He’s done such a good job here.”
Sheriff Dunlap admitted that he hadn’t had the opportunity to speak with Gabrielle but from his understanding “both the mom and girl were in tears. Tears of appreciation and joy. From what the deputy said, they were surprised and extremely grateful.”
So are we.
It’s important to see police officers doing good and getting recognized for it, in light of all of the hate that law enforcement officials have been receiving of late, so please share this story on Facebook and Twitter.
