Report: Hillary Paying Off DNC for Help in Southern States
Saturday, 19 Dec 2015 05:35 PM
Hillary Clinton's campaign is quietly transferring cash to the Democratic National Committee to pay for party activity in Southern states.
"We are planning to do another transfer to the DNC on December 1st," Brynne Craig, deputy national political director for the Clinton campaign, said in an email to a state party chairman that was obtained by Breitbart News. "We will follow up to let you know the amount that is transferred."
Craig, 30, worked on Clinton's 2008 campaign but then joined the team of then-Sen. Barack Obama after the former first lady lost the nomination,Fortune reports.
She has also worked for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which is charged with electing party members to the House of Representatives.
The DNC, whose chair is Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, is facing tough financial straits.
Its latest report shows that the committee had only $4.7 million in cash as of Oct. 31, less than the $6.9 million in debts the committee reported, The Washington Times reports.
By contrast, the Republican National Committee reported $20.4 million in cash, compared with owing $1.9 million.
Earlier this month, the Congressional Budget Office disclosed that Wasserman Schultz has sought to obtain as much as $20 million in taxpayer funds to pay for next year's DNC convention next July in Philadelphia, the Times reports.
The Breitbart report notes that the Clinton campaign is preparing for the March 1 "Super Tuesday" primary, in which six of the 12 states holding contests are in the South: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
During the 2008 campaign, Clinton lost her lead in the nomination race to Obama, Breitbart reports.
Neither the Clinton camp nor committee officials provided financial information on the transfers, according to Breitbart.
