Hillary Pledges Support For Israel, However, How Can She Be If She Supports Iran Nuclear Deal

No, AIPAC Isn't 'The Israel Lobby.' It's The Democrat Lobby.

MARCH 21, 2016
So, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee welcomed former Secretary of
State Hillary Clinton with wild applause.
This, to put it mildly, is disgusting. Here’s my brief review of Hillary’s record as
Secretary of State last week:
Hillary is the woman who corresponded regularly with vicious anti-Israel viper Sidney Blumenthal, a man who lectured her consistently on the dangers of the “Israeli leadership and the US Jewish community” and sent her the work of his son, outright anti-Semitic terror lackey Max Blumenthal. She’s the woman who helped initiate the Iran deal, the worst international agreement in the history of the Middle East. She’s the woman whose State Department condemned Israel for defending itself during the Gaza War and labeled Jerusalem not a part of Israel. She’s the anti-Israel extremist who personally called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in March 2010 to scream at him about Jews building bathrooms in Jerusalem, who slammed Israel in December 2011 as moving in the “opposite direction” of democracy and categorized voluntarily sex-segregated buses as “more suited to Iran than Israel,” who said in December 2012 that Israelis had a “lack of empathy” for Palestinians and needed to “demonstrate that they do understand the pain of an oppressed people in their mind.”
Yet today, pro-Israel thinkers across the aisle cheered Hillary as she mouthed
pro-Israel platitudes. Just as she’s done her entire career, before stabbing
Israel precisely between the thoracic vertebrae.
But AIPAC plans to give a nasty reception to Donald Trump, apparently.
Now, that’s somewhat justified – but it’s wildly unjustified to undercut Trump
while cheering Hillary. Trump has merely said he wouldn’t take moral sides
between the Israelis and the Palestinians – Hillary has actively taken sides
against the Israelis, even though she cynically ripped Trump for his language
(“America can’t ever be neutral when it comes to Israel’s security or
survival”). Trump has said he wouldn’t revoke the Iran deal on the first day,
but at least he’s criticized it – Hillary negotiated that deal.
All of this underscores a simple fact: AIPAC isn’t what it says it is.
AIPAC calls itself “America’s bi-partisan pro-Israel lobby.” They effectively
claim two central purposes: informing American lawmakers about Israel,
and pushing for pro-Israel policy in the halls of power. They achieve that
first purpose effectively by flying lawmakers to Israel to tour the Holy Land,
sending information to lawmakers, and teaching young students to be
advocates for Israel.
Then there’s their lobbying.
AIPAC isn’t bipartisan, unfortunately. They’re highly partisan. That’s why they
did nothing to push against Obama’s Iran agreement before the 2014 election,
when they could have used the threat of that election in order to pressure
Democrats to force Obama from the table. Their leadership is rife with Democrats,
including president Bob Cohen, who push the lie that support for anti-Israel
Democrats remains a priority in order to keep the group “bipartisan.” That’s why
after the Iran deal, Bloomberg reported:
Last month, after Democratic senators protected President Obama's nuclear deal with Iran from censure in the Senate, many in Washington wondered whether the lawmakers who supported the deal would pay a price with the pro-Israel lobby that fought so hard against it. The early signs from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or Aipac, are that most of them won't.
So here’s what AIPAC actually is:
a pro-Israel organization that prizes loyalty to the Democratic Party over the
interests of Israel. That doesn’t mean they can’t do good work when those two
interests avoid conflict. But when in conflict, they’ll always choose the
Democrats. That’s why they’ll cheer Hillary but rip Trump, when Hillary’s
record demonstrates clear-cut anti-Israel bias far more than Trump’s rhetoric.
