On Monday, about 200 SJW protesters took to the campus of UCLA in an attempt to silence conservative writer and commentator Ben Shapiro. The protest was unsuccessful and Shapiro gave his speech, which was, ironically, about creeping fascism on campus.

The protesters engaging in the sort of behavior that Shapiro was warning against inside the lecture hall were confronted by right-wing journalist Austen Fletcher, known as Fleccas. They were about as incoherent and clueless as you might imagine.

Flooding the venue, protesters chanted loudly, "Nazis go home!" — (Shapiro is an Orthodox Jew) — "Right-wing bigots go away!" and "It isn't a debate when you're just spreading hate!"

"I don't think he should be able to speak. Ben Shapiro incites hate speech, he does not incite free speech," explained one clueless female protester.

"Donald Trump is worse than Hitler!" screamed another anti-free-speech college student. As noted by Fleccas, this chant, like the rest of them, seems misplaced (and insultingly inaccurate) considering Shapiro did not even vote for Trump.

"Just because somebody is wearing a suit, just because he looks like Richard Spencer, is wearing a haircut like the Hitler youth, doesn't mean they're right," said one male protester.

Yeah, apparently there's a strong stereotype that a person who has a "Hitler youth" haircut is always "right." Shapiro doesn't even have that haircut. The protester was also completely ignoring Shapiro's consistent condemnation of the alt-right, which has consistently targeted him.

"F*** Ben Shapiro and f*** Milo Yiannopoulos," screamed another protester, apparently totally ignorant of Shapiro's take on Yiannopoulos.

Other protesters trying to shut down Shapiro were confronted by pro-free-speech counter-protesters. When the protesters were asked what their beef was with Shapiro, they deflected to President Trump, gave no specific answer, and then fled the interaction.

Ironically, the students at the protest who were in favor of free speech were non-immigrants and immigrants, black, brown and white people, male and female, piercing a hole in the protesters' weak narrative.

UC-Berkeley this week canceled an April 27 Ann Coulter speech, fearing riots. This lunacy will only grow until colleges start standing up decisively for free speech.

The school is trying to negotiate a new date, venue and ground rulMilo Yiannopoulos, Black lives Matter, es with the group that invited her, but so far has failed.

Its worry is obvious: Masked, rock-throwing thugs prevented a February speech by Milo Yiannopoulos. And the area saw 20 arrests last weekend as extremists of left and right battled in the streets.

But the answer to disorder is order: Put on extra security; keep non-students far from the campus event — and have the police trained and ready for trouble.

Berkeley’s move follows the Black Lives Matter disruption of a UCLA speech by the Manhattan Institute’s Heather Mac Donald, and efforts to muzzle her the next night at Claremont-Pomona College — 200-odd protesters chanting “Shut it down!” and “From Oakland to Greece, f - - k the police.”

Last month, goons stopped American Enterprise Institute scholar Charles Murray from delivering a moderately conservative talk at Middlebury College, with Professor Allison Stanger hospitalized by the violence.

More and more college students think it’s proper to act out this way. They proudly deny the free-speech rights of people whose writings they haven’t even read. (The Wellesley Review blather that we noted on Sunday is among the more coherent of these screeds; others are painfully ignorant.)

The kids are plainly learning this nonsense at college — which means professors and administrators are failing at their most fundamental duties.

If they’re even trying.

Worse, all this is surely the public tip of the iceberg: How much worse is it in the classrooms?

Increasingly, US campuses are the exact opposite of the bastions of free thought and debate they’re supposed to be. If the schools can’t save themselves, society has every right to demand new management.

Initial press reports suggested that the UCLA shooter was a "six foot 

white male." The LA Times reports:

The gunman who shot and killed a UCLA professor Wednesday has

been identified as Mainak Sarkar, a former doctoral student who had

accused the victim of stealing his computer code and giving it to

someone else, according to Los Angeles police.

Sarkar, 38, took his own life after killing William Klug, 39, in a small

office in UCLA Engineering Building 4, sources confirmed. The Los

Angeles County coroner’s office on Thursday did not identify the

shooter, although it did confirm the victim’s identity Thursday morning.

Klug was an associate professor of mechanical and aerospace

engineering and had been the target of Sarkar’s anger on social

media for months. On March 10, Sarkar called the professor a “very

sick person” who should not be trusted.

“William Klug, UCLA professor is not the kind of person when you

think of a professor. He is a very sick person. I urge every new

student coming to UCLA to stay away from this guy,” Sarkar

wrote. “He made me really sick. Your enemy is my enemy. But your

friend can do a lot more harm. Be careful about whom you trust.”

 A source called the gunman’s accusations “absolutely untrue.”

“The idea that somebody took his ideas is absolutely psychotic,” the

university source said. 

Many are alleging that Sakar is a Muslim, but this has yet to be confirmed. 

But once again, the media narrative that unhinged, Christian white men

 bitterly clinging to their guns and religion are running around the country 

shooting people with machine guns is totally false.

At least two people were killed during a shooting on UCLA campus today in yet another victim disarmament gun free zone.

“A UCLA police spokesperson said officers responded to an engineering lab and asked students to go to a secure location after the campus-wide alert system issued a notification,” reports NBC News.

At time of press, the gunman is still on the loose and has not been apprehended.

According to California state law, gun ownership is strictly regulated on the campus of UCLA.

Under Penal Code 626.9 PC, known as California’s Gun-Free School Zone Act, which was enacted in 1995, students are prohibited from carrying a gun within 1,000 feet of school grounds.

UCLA’s own campus policy also, “Prohibits the transportation and possession of firearms and other dangerous weapons on the grounds of UCLA campus, off-campus buildings owned or operated by the University, areas adjacent to University Property or to activities of or programs conducted by the University, whether on or off University Property.”

In October last year, California Gov. Jerry Brown also signed into law SB707, which banned students from carrying concealed weapons on school grounds and college campuses.

Of course, criminals don’t tend to obey laws, so the only impact of such measures is to disarm potential victims.

A columnist is urging people to contact UCLA officials to protest a Muslim call to prayer broadcast on the campus of a “publicly funded institution.”

“This in an act of Islamic supremacism,” writes Carol Brown for the American Thinker. “If Muslim students at UCLA can’t figure out how to tell time or keep track of when they need to pray, that’s their problem.”

Her column provides contact information for UCLA officials, including Janet Napolitano, president of the Universithy of California system, and corporate donors to the university.

“The call to prayer is something that is blasted over loudspeakers in Muslim majority countries and Muslim enclaves around Detroit,” Brown wrote. “We’ve already heard enough ‘Allahu Akbar’ for a lifetime.”

She said “fighting creeping Shariah requires constant vigilance.”

The concern arose in the wake of a controversy over an announcement by Duke University – later withdrawn – to have the Muslim prayer call blasted across its campus on Fridays. The move by school officials surprised the dean of the Duke Divinity School, who was not consulted, according to the Washington Post.

A video of the call to prayer at UCLA, reported by Christian News, showed the north side of the campus near the athletic field off Sunset Boulevard.

“While the audio is faint, Arabic-style chanting can be heard in the footage as students gathered on the lawn,” the report said.

The report said the common call to prayer chant is: “I bear witness that there is none worthy of being worshiped except Allah. I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. … Allah is most great.”

At Duke, Dean Richard Hays said “the use of a prominent Christian place of worship as a minaret for Muslim proclamation will, in our time, have immediate global repercussions.”

“Any discussion about such a proposal should take into careful account the perspective of millions of Christians living in Islamic societies where their faith is prohibited or persecuted,” he said.

The school had said amplifying the Muslim prayer call was to unify the campus and make sure it was welcoming for students of all faiths.

But an immediate and vocal reaction, especially a call for donors to discontinue their financial support of the school, prompted officials to reverse themselves almost immediately.

The officials, who also cited threats, decided the prayer call for Muslims was held on the university’s chapel steps instead.

The London Guardian reported Richard Brodhead, university president, later met with Muslim students to respond to questions about the university’s invitation to blast the call to prayer.

“But what some saw as a small token of welcome and an opportunity to challenge ‘media stereotypes of Muslims,’ others took as an affront,” the report said. “The questions that were raised by the call to prayer, including the state of Muslim identity within American public spaces and the nature of Duke’s religious pluralism, cased a national firestorm no one at the university could have predicted and left behind a community divided along multiple fault lines.”

Among those protesting the school’s decision was Franklin Graham, the son of Billy Graham, who asked donors to “withhold their support from Duke until this policy is reversed.”

Founded by Methodists and Quakers in the early history of the United States, Duke hired its first full-time Muslim chaplain and launched its Center for Muslim Life in 2009.
