Gay Waitress Lied About Anti-Gay Note, Then About Wounded Warriors Donations
It’s now almost a guarantee that the gay waitress who lied about a New Jersey couple leaving her a homophobic note will be slapped with fraud charges. Dayna Morales posted a photo to Facebook of a receipt which had a line drawn through the tip and the note, “I’m sorry but I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle.” It went viral, but the couple she accused eventually came forward and presented their copy of the receipt that had the $18 tip. But perhaps even worse, Morales also lied about donating the $2,000 she received from sympathetic supporters to the Wounded Warriors project.
The Bridgewater Patch confirmed through a Wounded Warrior representative that no donations had been made in Morales’ name. Furthermore, no donations were made from any of the zip codes in the New Jersey towns of Bedminster (where she lived) or Bridgewater (where she worked). If it can be proven that Morales made money off her hoax, she will face criminal fraud charges and could be sentenced to jail time.
The receipt Morales posted to Facebook was exposed as a hoax when the couple, who wished to remain anonymous, showed NBC 4 New York a receipt that appeared to be printed at the same minute on the same date, for the same amount of $93.55. The only difference is their bill included a credit card charge for an $18 tip. The wife said that she is left-handed and could not have made the slash in the tip line, which she said looks to be drawn from the right. “I just felt like people have a right to know,” said the wife. “It’s fine if people want to donate to her or to the Wounded Warriors, but they’re doing it under a false pretense.”
This is hardly the first time Morales has been caught lying, though. USA Today spoke with her colleagues and they revealed she had a history of compulsive and pathological lying. She lied to friends about serving in Afghanistan and in fact, was actually given a dishonorable discharge from the Marines for missing drills. She also lied to friends in telling them she had shaved her head because she was suffering from brain cancer, later amending her story to say she was supporting a friend with brain cancer.
