From 1961 to 1992 this Office of the government was classified. We now know that they run the satellite systems and report to various departments of government. Obviously, they are still very clandestine and very secretive with the information they have. How many similar programs are there?
Ok, we get it, they are a spy organization using technology to see and hear things around the world. Are they operating in the US? Probably. Should they be? Probably not without a warrant.
This is just one of the myriad of offices, agencies, departments, etc that the government has set up. In addition to this office, we are sure that there is a similar one in the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security. Why are they not combined? Oh yes, this is the government and each bureaucrat needs his own toys and cannot depend on other bureaucrats to give him the good stuff. Someone might get a fancy promotion if they found out something that the others did not know!
We know this sounds like we are against surveillance of foreign threats. We have no problem with finding out about the bad guys, but there has to be a limit when it comes to domestic surveillance.
Who is controlling this office? Or are there controls at all? With the launching of this new satellite, it makes one wonder if they really believe they have the right to hear and see all?

Develop. Acquire. Launch. Operate.
When the United States needs eyes and ears in critical places where no human can reach – be it over the most rugged terrain or through the most hostile territory – it turns to the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). The NRO is the U.S. Government agency in charge of designing, building, launching, and maintaining America’s intelligence satellites. Whether creating the latest innovations in satellite technology, contracting with the most cost-efficient industrial supplier, conducting rigorous launch schedules, or providing the highest-quality products to our customers, we never lose focus on who we are working to protect: our Nation and its citizens. From our inception in 1961 to our declassification to the public in 1992, we have worked tirelessly to provide the best reconnaissance support possible to the Intelligence Community (IC) and Department of Defense (DoD). We are unwavering in our dedication to fulfilling our vision: Vigilance From Above.
