Mary Matalin: Obamacare Assaults Religious Freedom

"What concerns me in a larger arena is that Republicans, they go wobbly. I mean, I wish there was a [Margaret] Thatcher around, a Thatcher angel to say, don't go wobbly," Matalin told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
Matalin, who was an adviser to President Ronald Reagan and Presidents George H.W. and George W. Bush, said she's not a fan of Republicans supporting a delay of the Affordable Care Act's individual mandate.
"Let's not do anything that is a fix. Let the thing fall apart. No Republicans voted for it," she said.
"Let the thing unfold in the way that it can and keep saying what's wrong with it."
Matalin says the Affordable Care Act has "assaulted the very essence of who we are."
"It assaulted our very first freedom, religious freedom, and the Supremes are now going to take up that aspect of it and it's an opportunity for us to take a stand for freedom of speech, freedom of religion. You don't have to be a person of faith to take up for the First Amendment."
She does not buy the argument of Democrats that Republicans are anti-women on abortion and contraceptives issues.
"What [women] really do care about, even if they’re pro-choice, is the government forcing employers or their businesses or faith groups to provide funding for abortions and contraception when it defies their rights. They're bound to the Constitution," Matalin said.
Matalin and her husband James Carville are authors of the upcoming book, "Love &War: Twenty Years, Three Presidents, Two Daughters and One Louisiana Home."
