Smuggled NK Photos Reveal Dismal Soldiers in a Gray Country
Life in the totalitarian regime of North Korea is so hellish, to put it bluntly, that even the residents of America’s most destitute city, Detroit, would likely find it appalling.
For instance, the North Koreans’ idea of watching TV entails gazing at a ridiculously tiny box whose screen is smaller than some U.S. laptops.
And their notion of enjoying a dolphin show involves one presumably very lonely dolphin flipping and flopping across a pool all by its lonesome self.
It sounds pathetic to those of us accustomed to First-World luxuries, but in North Korea this is life, and life is hell:
North Korea forbids visitors from taking photographs of soldiers, but photographer Eric Lafforgue snapped some on a trip to the country and got them published in the U.K. Daily Express.
But behind the scenes is where the real hell lies. According to the Chinese newspaper Vision Times, simply being caught watching a foreign film in North Korea is enough to earn you, your spouse, your children and your parents decades of punishment in a concentration camp.
“The most terrifying thing is that these people are dying and no one from the outside world ever knows,” revealed a North Korean defector who managed to escape one of these camps, describing in detail the sadistic hell he experienced there: starvation, rape, torture, etc.
But even outside the camps, life is still hellish for North Koreans, who have been known, to “eat the roots of grass” just to survive, according to the Los Angeles Times, all while their despotic ruler grubs on fancy cheese and wine.
The irony is that North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un is so disturbed mentally — if not spiritually — that he had the audacity three years ago to try and excoriate the United States for allegedly being the world’s “worst human rights abuser.”
“The report paints a dystopian nightmare of soaring crime rates, enabled by lax gun control laws and rising unemployment, abetted by a rapacious ruling class, and racism spreading under a mysterious law identified as the ‘citizenship act,” Time magazine noted at the time about an astonishingly stupid anti-American report published by Kim’s rogue regime.
The guy lives in a bubble bigger than his gigantic gut, and the ones who must suffer because of his ignorance are not we who live in the peaceful and just confines of the United States, but his own people. It’s sad beyond words, but what can we do to stop it?
