Michigan Town Makes Brutal Move Against Muslims… Then They Hear This Chant Ringing Out
The increased number of American Muslims being arrested for trying to join the Islamic State group, coupled with the general increase in Islamic terrorist attacks across the globe, has caused many Americans to become suspicious of the religion of Islam.
WXYZ reported that in Sterling Heights, Michigan, a group of Muslims wanted to build a 20,500-square-foot mosque in the middle of a residential neighborhood in September.
Many of those residents were not pleased with this, and came out in the hundreds to demonstrate against the proposed mosque.
The Sterling Heights planning committee voted against the mosque, 9-0. Mosque leaders had offered to make changes to the project, such as downsizing the building or changing the dome and towers, but that did not sway the planning committee.
Hundreds of people stood outside City Hall waiting for the decision chanting, “No more mosques,” or “God Bless America.”
The crowd erupted into cheers when the decision was announced.
Several Muslims expressed outrage over the crowd’s reaction, with one comparing the chanting in the streets to Baghdad.
“This doesn’t seem like Sterling Heights. I feel like I’m in Baghdad,” he said.
In an attempt to placate both sides, the Sterling Heights Mayor Michael C. Taylor issued a statement that managed to say nothing.
“The recent application for the special approval land use to construct a mosque was considered by the City’s Planning Commission based on objective land use criteria and not emotional feelings tied to religious beliefs either for or against the applicant,” it said.
The statement went on to talk about what an inclusive community Sterling Heights was, and how it will work to foster inclusiveness in the community.
