Melania Trump’s Fashion Statement Prompts Negative Statements On Twitter
"Is that even appropriate?"
Melania Trump didn’t even make it to her first day as America’s first lady before some on social media started throwing shade at the wife of President-elect Donald Trump.
The issue? Melania Trump made her round of Washington, D.C., visits, including a wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery, while wearing large Gucci sunglasses.
What are your thoughts on Melania Trump's sunglasses during the wreath laying ceremony? #trump #sunglasses
Many Twitter users thought it was disrespectful for her to keep them on during the Arlington ceremony.
Is Melania Trump part of secret service? Shouldn't she have taken off her sunglasses?!?!? No one told her?— Sherry (@ms_sherryb) January 19, 2017
@MELANIATRUMP take off the damn sunglasses ! RUDE!! Hiding behind them
However, some thought the sunglasses reminded them of one of America’s most famous first ladies.
Melania wearing the big dark glasses is reminiscent Of Jackie. I wonder if that is intentional or just circumstantial? #TrumpInauguration
WOW!!! @MELANIATRUMP channeling Jackie Kennedy with those iconic black sunglasses!
#MELANIATRUMP has her JackieO sunglasses on and she looks marvelous! #TrumpInauguration
While Twitter argued, Norisol Ferrari, the designer who created Melania Trump’s outfit for the occasion, talked about the incoming first lady’s commitment to pay proper homage to America’s military heroes.
She said Melania Trump wanted a “commanding, military-esque coat for today’s wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.”
Ferrari said the commission was more than just another design because the Arlington visit was special to her as well.
“I was honored to dress the first lady of the United States for her visit to Arlington Cemetery,” Ferrari said.
“Throughout American history, our military personnel have faced difficult circumstances with courage and bravery. The men and women interred at Arlington gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country, as did their families who lost loved ones. We owe them our reverence and support,” she said.
“Mrs. Trump’s visit to Arlington was particularly poignant for me, as my biological father is a wounded veteran. His experience, and the lifelong disabilities he sustained, affected my family deeply. I have immense gratitude for all our armed forces and hope we can move forward with the intention of peace and healing for our country and the world,” Ferrari said.
What do you think?
