Republican congressman has a message for protesters who left a profane sign at his home
A Republican lawmaker took to Twitter on Thursday with a message for protesters who left a profane sign at his home.
Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R-Neb.) tweeted a picture of a sign he said was left outside of his home that read “Traitors put party above country. Do the right thing for once, s**thead.”
Fortenberry wrote, “Be angry with me, direct your protest at me, but do not frighten my children in their home.”
KETV-TV reported that the Fortenberry family reported the incident to police after their 11-year-old daughter discovered the sign.
According to the Omaha World-Herald, a protest group called The Betsy Riot placed the sign. And in a profanity-laced tweet, the group wrote that “Nebraska Betsies decided to help [Fortenberry] enhance his home’s curb appeal.”
The group also posted a picture of the sign in Fortenberry’s yard on their Facebook page with a similar message calling Fortenberry a “toadie” for the “fascist Trump Regime.”
On Twitter, Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) offered his support to Fortenberry, writing, “I’m with Jeff. People who scream this stuff around kids are not serious about either country or basic neighborliness. We can do better.”
