Rumors of Russian hacking to influence the 2016 election don’t seem to be abating, despite President-elect Donald Trump and his team downplaying Moscow’s involvement, allegedly to help him defeat Hillary Clinton. Trump indicated on New Year’s Eve that he has “inside information” on what role Russia may or may not have played.
For Trump spokesman Sean Spicer, questioned by New Day host Alisyn Camerota about what Team Trump thinks of the intelligence report on Russian hacking — and what Trump might reveal — the tenaciousness of the issue finally got to him and the exchange got chippy.
The interview first got contentious when Spicer claimed that President Barack Obama did not issue a statement in response to the Chinese hacking of OPM in 2015. Camerota was ready for that line however, and began reading off a statement that Obama did in fact make. (Spicer retorted that Obama’s comments were not an official statement, and were made months after the fact.)…
…“The idea that you should be talking a about the the conclusions or actions you’re going to take on a conclusion that you’re not final yet is unbelievably irresponsible…” he continued. “The idea you’re asking anybody what their reaction should be to a non-final report is unbelievable.”
