A Chesterfield Township man faces new charges involving a 12-year-old
that could send him to prison for life.
CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI — A Chesterfield Township man
awaiting trial on two counts of child sexual abuse faces new charges
after a 12-year-old girl reported that she was sexually assaulted at a
gathering of teens at the man’s home Saturday night, police said.
James Curtis Beck, 44, is being held in the Macomb County Jail.
The new charge is first-degree criminal sexual conduct, which carries
a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years in prison and could
include life in prison, according to a news release from the
Chesterfield Township Police Department.The earlier charges
against Beck — two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct
(person under 13) — were filed in December 2015.
Police said the 12-year-old Macomb Township girl in the new
case reported she was assaulted at the Carriage Way mobile
eturned home from work late Sunday evening, and several
pieces of potential evidence were seized under a search warrant,
police said.

Beck was arraigned Tuesday at the New Baltimore 42-2 District
Court before Judge William Hackel, who set his bond at
$50,000 cash/surety. His next court date is Feb. 22.
According to the news release, hearings on the 2015 charges
will be held in the near future in Macomb County Circuit Court.
